When a “funny” dude likes you and anytime he sees you anywhere he will be like “yoooo wassup it’s Jelissa!” (Or whatever) like “omg Miranda is here whaaaat” for literally no reason why do they do that
They are more likely to do this the more meek and shy they perceive you too. They are less likely to do this if they think you’re loud and confident. Idk what it is it’s not even necessarily bad or annoying it’s just like why.
This is a VERY sweet take and I hope it’s sometimes true
Okay I thought this behavior was annoying before but now it’s actually quite endearing thank you extroverts who want introverts to feel included.
There was a stoner I liked very much when I was playing age of Conan some ten or more years ago. He would roll up into the vent, yell my name and rip a fat one on mic before vanishing again. Always made me feel special. It was like a dog that would greet you by barking as loud as possible and wagging his tail so hard it leaves a dent in the wall when your car rolls up. Everyone was luke warm to cold on him but he was my fucking buddy and I loved him because he made me feel wanted which I sure as shit wasn’t getting at home!!
Eventually I made the decision to start emulating behaviors that made me feel happy and started doing that in other places. To this day my whole discord chants the nickname of whomever joins the call, like a pack of seagulls who just locked eyes on a delicious spare French fry. There’s nothing quite as amazing as walking into a room and hearing a chorus of loved ones drawing out your name like they were going to sweep you off your feet if they could, slash like a pack of feral dogs ready to bowl you the fuck over.
sometimes a ghost is a ghost but other times a ghost is the prominent absence of a ghost
This says something about human nature, but what
Humans are, by and large, drawn to the novel and absurd.
Can you tell me why Frodo is so important in lotr? Why can't someone else, anyone else, carry the ring to mordor?
but someone else could.
that’s the whole point of frodo—there is nothing special about him, he’s a hobbit, he’s short and likes stories, smokes pipeweed and makes mischief, he’s a young man like other young men, except for the singularly important fact that he is the one who volunteers. there is this terrible thing that must be done, the magnitude of which no one fully understands and can never understand before it is done, but frodo says me and frodo says I will.
(when boromir is thinking of how he can use the ring to defend gondor, when aragorn is thinking of how it brought down proud isildur, when elrond is holding council and gandalf is thinking of how twisted he would become, if he ever dared—)
but then there’s frodo, who desires nothing except what he has already left behind him, and says, I will take the Ring.
it is an offer made out of absolute innocence, utter sincerity. It is made without knowing what it will make of him—and frodo loses everything to the ring, he loses peace and himself and the shire, he loses the ability to be in the world. It’s cruel, the ring is cruel, it searches out every weakness you have and feeds on it, drinks you dry and fills you with its poison instead, the ring is so cruel.
and frodo picks it up willingly. for no other reason except that it has to be done.
(the ring warps boromir into a hopeless grasping dead thing, the power of the palantir turns denethor into an old man, jealous and suspicious, it bends even saruman, once the proudest of the istari, into a mechanised warlord, sitting in his fortress and bent over his perverse creations—all the best of intentions, laid waste)
but there’s a reason gollum exists in the narrative, which is to show—well, to show what frodo might have been. because even as frodo grows mistrustful and wearied, as the burden of this ring grows heavier and heavier, he is never gollum. he is gentle to gollum. he is afraid—god frodo is so afraid for 2/3 of these books he is so tired and afraid, but he keeps moving, he walks though it would pull him into the ground, because he asked for this, he said he would.
someone else could have carried the ring to mordor, I suppose. the idea of a martyr is not dependent on the particular flesh and blood person dying for some greater purpose. but such a thing has to be chosen, lifted onto your shoulders for the right reason, the truest reasons, and followed into the dark, though it would see you burnt through and bled out.
I will take the Ring, though I do not know the way.
y'know say what you want about tumblr (and I have), but this is still probably the simplest and most powerful distillation of the heart of the Lord of the Rings I’ve ever read. I think back to it all the time
One of the guys at work started laughing at me and I was like what's so funny and he goes "I've never seen anyone look so defeated" 😭😭 I was like, dude I'm exhausted and he just went "My secret is a hot cup of coffee with cocaine" DUDE 😭😭😭😭😭
I love old people who've been working at one job forever they'll just say anything that comes to mind
Another time another old guy at work was like "We wouldn't HAVE any of these problems if we had a UNION" and one of my coworkers was like, dude shut up we can't talk about this during work, and he was like "THAT'S BECAUSE WE DONT HAVE A UNION" even louder and it was so funny
Everything about this is a masterpiece: the girl that says “wow” and the girl that says “hi” shyly and bill awkwardly lifting his hand to say hi to them I’m cracking THE FUCK UP
The way they all immediately straightened up their postures like the fuckin pope walked in 😂 the sheer power this cool science man has over the american people is palpable
My gf has now decided that any time we can't sleep at night it's because we are bearwatching
She has a point
translation from turkish the guy: are you hungry? are you really hungry? didn’t they feed you in the street? you poor thing. let me give you something then. come. come. do you like spleen? it’s hematinic. (this sentence wasn’t the exact translation but it’s the best i can come up with) like this look. let me give you some spleen. this much. is this enough? get it.
this is so cute. I love the butcher chatting away and the cat responding, him pulling out a package of meat and showing it, just like he’s dealing with any customer.
one of those posts that makes me happy every time I see it
A bitter sweet update to this video, the cat passed away :( But there is a silver lining. The Butcher, sad and despondent took her body in and buried in his garden in a little grave.
And to honor his friend he added this to his shop.
STOP IM CRYING
I just like the story behind this. On one hand, one piece of misinformation can easily be accepted as fact if it looks appealing enough. Raccoon skulls look more like what you would expect of an animal skull. Instead of the reality where wolf skulls are actually kind of ugly from the front. But this design is made unintentionally far greater because of this. These tattoos were all found under the #wolfskulltattoo tag on instagram
can’t wait to watch timothée chalamet star in the charlie and the chocolate factory prequel titled WONKA as he finds an indigenous population and contracts them to lifelong servitude in his manufacturing plant where there are no safety regulations or government oversight

I know the joke is that the grear British baking show is happy and delightful, and American cooking and baking shows are intense, and this is supposed to be a cultural thing
But American shows are for anywhere from $10,000-$50,000 and the British bake off is for a bouquet and a trophy
Plus the GBBO is usually full of contestants who are retired, stay at home parents, college kids, and teachers who have the summer off and it’s filmed on the weekends
I’m not sure when American shows are filmed but considering how most that have the same people back every episode have the contestants mention leaving their families behind and quitting their jobs to compete, it’s not a convenient summer Saturday
Plus you ask the GBBO people why they’re competing and they say it’s for fun, as opposed to the Americans who start crying over being in mountains of college and medical debt and this being their only way out
If you took a bunch of poor UK bakers and made them quit their jobs to compete for the chance at a shit ton of money I don’t think they’d be helping each other make biscuit dough
It...never occurred to me the cultural difference in question was being framed as being between the contestants. Rather than the shows.
Of course it's how they're being treated and incentivized? I had no idea we weren't all on the same page with that.
