𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐒𝐔𝐁𝐓𝐋𝐄 . eyes on him from the opposite end of the room , gaze heavy with interest . legs folded one atop another , the fingertips of one gloved hand tapping along his thigh ; each drum growing slower as the character of his own thoughts grow darker & darker with need , the sharp lines of his irises becoming amber in hue . at last , they come to a stop , palm laying over the top of his thigh & slowly pulling toward himself , at last laying upon the inner curve of his hips . zhongli does not call him over , nor beckon him with any great gesture : only the slightest parting of lips , & lowering of chin as he tempts him closer with the come - hither of his lecherous stare .

so he may not be the most observant of oni on his best days, he is infuriatingly aware of dragon's stare whenever they're in the same room. and yea, it shouldn't surprise him, it's been like that since day one, their connection weirdly strong, but still. he didn't think the second they were alone zhongli would look at him like that...

ah, who is he kidding? it was pretty sweet. to be desired like that. itto looks to zhongli, already comfortable on the edge of the inn's bed as if he owned it, and damn if oni didn't feel as pretty as a daisy in spring. those eyes could make a grown man cross his ankles, and giggle like a school kid.

"what'cha lookin' at me like that for?" itto still hams it up, as he always does, kicking off his geta before striding further into the room, "you still hungry? we just had all you can eat barbeque..."

just know dating itto means dealing with really stupid petnames.

baby, babe, love, the usual are all up there. but he also comes up with his own like poopsie (poops for short) or snickerdoodle or pumpernickel, random shit like that.

they can be personalized (example: he likes to call gorou "gogo" and zhongli "li") which can often morph into an entirely different phrase.

think of it how your pet got it's current nickname. my cat started as smidge and has landed on smidgemeiser or smidge-der-idge or smidgerator. if you're dating itto or hell, even if you're just friends, he's doing that to your name.

have been considering a flowershop/tattoo artist type au with aster lately but where itto is actually the adopted grandson of a little old lady flourist who's had the shop for generations but no living family left so itto is her pride and joy.

itto's a six foot four reformed 'bad child' of the foster system who got his g.e.d. and likes making pretty flower arrangement and trading pokemon cards with kids in the neighborhood.

"whoa-!" ok so he's never been dipped before because he's kind of too big for it but zhongli makes it seem simple, easy as pie. oni blinks once, twice, before he really focuses on dragon above him. then, a chuckle. which turns into a full blown laughter.

"dude, you got moves. you should show me more of 'em."

thunder   rumbles   in   the   distance,   a   sonorous   war   cry   at   the   shores   of   watatsumi.   rain   falls   off   the   awning   of   the   house   in   droves,   the   patter   upon   tiled   roofs   enough   to   lull   gorou's   keen   hearing   into   a   sense   of   relaxation.   he   didn't   like   being   caught   in   the   rain   -   but   there   was   something   about   being   kept   cozy   and   indoors,   warm   before   the   irori,   that   leant   to   his   comfort.   gorou   would   be   the   first   to   admit   that   he   was   a   sucker   for   nights   like   this,   when   the   thunder   was   far   away   enough   that   it   didn't   aggravate   his   memories   and   when   the   lightning   was   yet   too   dim   to   quake   his   soul.   

but   the   oni   was   a   counterweight   to   the   fear   that   would   come.   he   knew   that   deep   down,   though   stubborn   independence   refused   to   admit   it.   the   general   himself   was   much   more   keen   on   the   idea   that   he   was   'managing   it   all   on   his   own'   and   'it   was   fine   without   assistance,'   when   in   truth   itto's   presence   at   night   -   and   when   the   storms   on   watatsumi   got   too   bad   to   handle   -   had   kept   him   together   more   than   he'd   care   to   admit.   

knees   are   tucked   to   his   chest   as   he   sits   before   the   other   -   their   dinner   plates   long   discarded.   gorou's   tail   is   wrapped   about   himself,   his   face   buried   against   his   knees,   and   he   stares   the   oni   down   over   his   pant   legs,   drinking   in   his   strong   countenance   like   a   predator   drawing   upon   prey   that   he   might   leap   at   any   moment.   another   rumble,   closer   still,   and   comfort   fades   to   uneasiness   -   but   it   is   tempered   by   itto's   presence,   his   warm   aura,   and   maybe   that's   why   gorou   doesn't   immediately   reduce   to   sputtering   idiocy   when   the   question   leaves   itto's   mouth.   maybe   that's   why   he   doesn't   spontaneously   combust   on   the   spot,   or   find   a   convenient   place   to   hide   to   avoid   screaming   his   answer   too   eagerly.   

dignity.   refinement.   the   yokai   inhales   once,   his   ears   perking   forward   and   head   raising   from   the   little   nest   he'd   made   upon   his   own   knees.   "   do   you   mean...?   like...   "   he's   not   sure   he   can   say   it,   truly,   because   what   if   he's   wrong?   what   if   it's   pity?   an   attempt   to   distract   him   from   the   oncoming   storm   and   subsequent   despair   that   it   would   bring?   but   itto   wasn't   that   kind   of   man,   gorou   knew,   and   yet   his   anxiety   railed   against   his   next   actions.      he   unfurls   himself   like   a   flower,   drawing   across   the   space   between   them   so   that   he's   on   all   fours   before   the   other's   seated   form.   though   they   both   rest   upon   the   tatami,   the   gesture   is   hardly   supplicant,   and   instead   more   of   gorou's   strange   intensity   coming   into   play   behind   the   bright   teal   of   his   eyes.   "   like...   "   he   repeats   gently   now,   rocking   back   on   his   haunches   to   meet   the   brunt   of   crimson   gaze   head   on.   it   even   matches   the   hue   that   takes   to   his   cheek.   "   ...a   date?   "

he doesn't really know when it started, itto's never been the most perceptive oni out there, but he knows now that he would rather be spending time with the doggy general than without. perhaps he can't recall when exactly 'cause it always kinda felt like that, even before he really met gorou aside from a passing glance. first impression of the guy was always positive. warm. like a hug from someone who actually gave a crap about you, or some warm cider and a hot steak. gorou made him feel…not so big.

it was hard to explain, oni isn't even sure what it means, he just knows that he doesn't think too much about where his feet go when he steps or what he can hold without making it worse with the general around. and he was so good to granny, too. gorou showed her around watatsumi after securing her some land to settle down. even helped itto build her house when he had the time. and anyone who treated granny oni with respect was a real good dude in itto's book. when gorou opened up to him one day during a storm that stranded them at nazuchi for awhile that lightning put him on edge, itto felt like he had to fix that somehow. for some reason. as if he could control the weather or something stupid like that….but for gorou, he wanted to try.

so he took to being around as often as he could. paid attention to the weather and showed up without saying much. gorou would cook for him if he wasn't busy, and they'd sit. like now. general seems a lot less on edge now, relaxed in a way itto has learned to tell by the way he holds himself. his ears are up but not turning toward every sound, his tail is nestled beside him neatly, his shoulders aren't so tight. and his lips aren't pursed, his jaw isn't clenched, he's really cute actually, itto likes looking at him, and will you go out with me falls out of his mouth like a passing thought. even itto looks surprised he said it. but gorou heard him, crawls closer and itto feels himself swallow hard, so loud he can hear it in his head. he's blushing despite himself, wanting to lean in to his devil-may-care attitude but it's nowhere to be found, now.

"i mean, uh…yea! you know, like…i'll take you somewhere nice and we can, i dunno. do date stuff?" he clears his throat, "just if you want to, that is. i dunno if you got a bunch of suitors all lined up, you're a decorated war general after all, but i'm just saying. if you're interested, i uh…i am too."

itto DOES default to sleeping with his eyes open, and it's a little creepy sure but it's to keep vigilant. when he's a sleep is when he's vulnerable, and being a vulnerable oni around oni0-fearing humans....it wasn't always easy finding a safe place to sleep.

that being said, he'll sleep with his eyes closed when he feels safe in a space.

itto letting himself get arrested sometimes just so he can have a quiet place to sleep is something i still think about. in case anyone was wondering.
