“He’s not gonna let you in!” Sirius said insistently, walking alongside James as he made his way to the Slytherin dungeons. “He doesn’t do weakness, James. Sickness is weakness. Hell, I doubt he’d even let you give him the Heimlich or…or CPR or whatever. He’d rather die!”
“Well, I’m going to,” James muttered stubbornly, clutching the soup in his hand and quickening his footsteps. Regulus was sick, it was James’s duty as his….his almost-sort-of-hopefully-someday boyfriend to take care of him!
“Your funeral, mate,” Sirius chuckled, stopping short at the entrance to the Slytherin Common Room. “When he hexes you for trying, ask him to avoid your prick, yeah?”
“Sure, Pads. Emerald!” He said the last word firmly, the password to go inside. Then, leaving Sirius in the corridor, he walked quickly to Regulus’s dorm.
He wasn’t shocked that Barty and Evan were nowhere to be found–they often were out and about, and what with Regulus being ill, he suspected they were avoiding the germs. So he slipped into the room undisturbed, making it almost to Regulus’s beside before–
“Fuck off, Potter,” a low, gravelly voice growled from Regulus’s bed.
“Hi, love,” he murmured, continuing forward, setting the soup on the bedside table and standing next to the blanket-covered mass that was the Slytherin.
“If I had my wand, I’d fucking hex you,” Regulus retorted, not moving.
James swallowed back a smile. “Listen, Reg. I’m here to take care of you. And I’m not giving you a choice in the matter.”
This got Regulus moving. Fury in his eyes, he sat up and threw James an absolutely livid glare. “What happened to being a gentleman, Potter? This isn’t very gentlemanly. Storming into my room and insisting you care for me like I’m an incapable child?”
He rolled his eyes. “No, baby. I’m insisting I care for you because you are cared about. You’re sick. You need love. I get that getting help isn’t your thing, and normally I’m happy to chase you because…” he laughed, rolling his eyes, “it’s our thing, and it’s hot. But right now, you’re ill. So fine, if you really want to tell me to fuck off, I’ll go, I’m not a monster. But I am here to help. Let me?”
He waited, breath trapped in his lungs, as a scowling, fever-flushed Regulus glared at him for several moments before relaxing just a fraction.
“I’m cold,” the Slytherin said grumpily. “Come in here and give me your ridiculously warm body heat.”
Beaming with triumph, James quickly complied, climbing into the small bed and pulling Regulus close.
