Wait.. do I know you? [ Lyra & Volkner ]
When Lyra muttered under her breath as the waitress left their table, Volkner couldn’t help but snort a little in agreement. He picked up his own mug gingerly, took a soothing sip and eyed Lyra silently over the brim. “Stick around me long enough, and you’ll get used to it…” he sighed after setting his drink down on the table, fingers drumming on the wood.
It didn’t occur to him what he had said until it was far too late to correct himself, but he decided that perhaps if he just pretended that it was no big deal then Lyra wouldn’t think too hard about it. Volkner leaned back in his seat and crossed his legs at the knees.
Keeping to himself was something the man was quite good at, yet keeping this tiny fact from Lyra was proving to be a lot more difficult no that they were in a populated area. Everyone around the city knew him, whether by name or by interaction, and it was plain as day to anyone who he was with that he attracted attention. But would Lyra figure it out on her own, or would someone else let it slip within her proximity?
It was rather stressful, honestly.
"So," Volkner continued, clearing his throat, "are you enjoying Sinnoh so far? How long have you been in the country?"
Lyra gently flipped one of her ponytails back, making sure it didn't accidentally fall into her coffee. The girl took a small sip and eyed Volkner again, flashing him a tiny grin. He sure was a mysterious guy. But it was okay, she didn't really mind. The drink was too good, she'd make sure to remember this place the next time she visited. At least that waitress hadn't come back. Things probably wouldn't get too pretty.
Lyra really didn't want another episode like earlier. No way.
Exhaling a large breath she adjusted the bag on her shoulder, making sure that it didn't slip off. The whole atmosphere of this place was quite nice, and she wouldn't mind even staying there all day. But still, wandering eyes were everywhere, and today, they were all on her. It was actually kind of nerve wracking.
"So," The man cleared his throat, "are you enjoying Sinnoh so far? How long have you been in the country?" Let's see... how long had Lyra been here? Maybe a few days, 3 or 4? She didn't really remember. "Oh," She started quietly, "Only a few days, I believe. It's a very lovely country. Nice people, too—" The girl gave a nod and a smile in his direction.

Wait.. do I know you? [ Lyra & Volkner ]
Volkner could see the table of women across the dining area from just behind Lyra’s shoulder, the way they were sending him and his mysterious companion curious glances. One of them worked at the bar Volkner frequented — she was familiar with his ways whenever he would visit, always arriving alone and leaving with company, so the fact that he was sitting here with an unfamiliar girl would have been completely out of character for the Volkner that she knew so well. The blond could only hope she had the decency to mind her own business.
"Hmm?" In his distraction he nearly missed Lyra’s question, but after focusing his attention back on her he shook his head smoothly. "It’s nothing really. I’m probably just being too sensitive about it."
When the younger began to make small-talk (on a subject they had already covered, no less) Volkner couldn’t help but smirk, crossing his legs loosely. It was quite cute how nervous she seemed to be, but he didn’t really want her to be so nervous around him. “Yeah, I’ve always lived here,” he answered simply, chancing a quick glance up at her before cautiously adding, “My mother used to be the Sunyshore Gym Leader, actually.” Was it safe to admit that? Of course he knew Lyra would eventually discover who he really was, but it felt wrong somehow if he was the one to let it slip. That’s the sort of thing someone would usually start with when they introduce themselves, right? They were just a tad beyond that now. “Where in Johto are you from? I’ve only been to Goldenrod City once, very briefly. I don’t really get the chance to travel much.”
Just then the barista from earlier trotted out with their coffee, effectively ending the conversation, at least for the moment. “Here we are!” she sang with a tiny smile. “Black coffee for Mister Volkner—” the youthful girl placed his mug down in front of him, and the man thanked her with a small nod, “— and a cappuccino for… Lyra.”
As the barista placed Lyra’s beverage in front of her she gave the girl an odd look, calculating and curious. But she said nothing, only smiled, chirped, “Enjoy your drinks!” and left them to their devices.
Volkner… wasn’t exactly sure what to say after that… 'interesting' display.
Lyra took a deep breath and looked at him across the table, features turning upwards into a smile. Best to just focus on their conversation and not get distracted... like always. "Hmm? It’s nothing really. I’m probably just being too sensitive about it." Well, that was good. She hated seeing people upset. "Alright—" The girl murmured, playing with her fingernails. As she began her small talk Volkner seemed to just be sitting there, taking it all in. No doubt they had probably talked about most of it before, but Lyra's memory wasn't always the best. Still, she hoped he wouldn't get angry with her.
“Yeah, I’ve always lived here,” Really? That was surprising. He seemed like someone who would have been from some far off unknown region. However, he did have that 'Sunyshore' look to him. “My mother used to be the Sunyshore Gym Leader, actually.” Wait... then didn't that mean— "Where in Johto are you from? I’ve only been to Goldenrod City once, very briefly. I don’t really get the chance to travel much.” It distracted her from thought, forgetting about what she was going to say.
"Oh, I-" She was rudely cut off by the barista coming over to the table, a smile on her face as if she wanted to impress him. The girl gave a small roll of her eyes, letting out a tiny laugh. “Here we are!” She sang, handing Volkner his cup of what seemed like plain black coffee. How boring. “Black coffee for Mister Volkner—” Just as she expected. Lyra's coffee was also placed down on the surface in front of her, almost splashing on her sweatshirt. “— and a cappuccino for… Lyra.” What?! How did she know her name?! The girl flashed her a condescending look, almost seeming indifferent about it. What was up with people today? “Enjoy your drinks!” Lyra grumbled at the response, taking her cup between her hands.
"The nerve of some people..." She muttered into her collar, hoping he wouldn't hear.

Cherry-Coloured Funk // Silver&Lyra
Silver’s head was spinning, he felt overwhelmed with fatigue and anxiety over what he’d just tried to do. Why did he… Try to kiss her?! Why would he do that?! He’d never kissed anyone in his life, because he never had those sorts of feelings for anyone. Kissing was associated with romance! He’d never had romantic feelings for anyone in his… Life…
It struck him almost like a bolt of lightning. Romantic feelings… Like a crush, or… Love… What was this adding up to? The way Lyra made him feel… So nervous and self-conscious, so vulnerable, yet so strangely happy… The way he was seldom annoyed by anything she did, how he only wanted to be around her and how he found himself missing her when they were apart… No one else had this kind of effect on him.
These feelings that he was so scared of… The feelings he couldn’t identify, no matter how hard he searched within himself… Could it have been… Love? In the moment, it almost felt like there was no other possible answer. Was Silver… In love with… Lyra? Was that why he was suddenly overcome with the urge to kiss her…? Was that why she made him so… Happy?
This realization further filled him with panic. Surely, by trying to swoop in and snatch one from her, he’d messed up. If that hadn’t, then suddenly shoving her onto the bed and fleeing for his life must have done it. She couldn’t ever forgive him. The grip on his head tightened and he swallowed the bile in his throat, too swamped with the belief that he’d just ruined his friendship with the only person he cared about. His face felt like it was on fire, his heart as ready to explode out of his chest, he just wanted the humiliation to end.
He heard the squeaking of the mattress as her small figure stood, her footsteps quiet and careful, like she was approaching a feral Pokemon. She was coming over to him, right? What did she want? What was she going to say? If she were to hit him, he wouldn’t blame her. It wouldn’t sting nearly as much as his mistake gouged into his heart.
Lyra knelt down next to him, reaching forward to gently grab his shoulders. Tentatively, she tried to turn his body until they were facing one another, but he couldn’t bring himself to look at her. He could hardly handle having her so close, after what he’d tried to do, there was no way he could look her in the eye. She sighed rather audibly, reaching a hand up to touch his face, causing him to tense up again. “Silver… look at me…”
Like a soldier unable to disobey commands, metallic eyes slowly raised to meet hers. “You did nothing wrong… nothing. Please don’t be sorry… ” She assured, the sincerity of it making it almost believable. Silver had convinced himself he’d fucked up, there was almost nothing she could say that would change his mind. “A-and… I…I don’t know why you pulled away earlier…” He couldn’t give any kind of response. Seconds ticked by before she said anything more.
"I-If you don’t like it… j-just… say so…."
Before he could register what that meant, she closed the distance between their lips, pressing hers against his own. Silver’s eyes shot open, a small squeak of surprise managing its way up his throat. He couldn’t figure out what was happening. Why…? What had she… Why did she… She… Kissed him… She kissed him…! Lyra… Kissed him! Did that mean she didn’t hate him after what he’d tried to do…? Did she really want this…? Her hands knotted behind his neck, pulling them closer to one another. That alone felt like an answer.
Her lips were… Soft, and her body warm. His head felt numb, like he was in some kind of dream. But, he knew better than that. No, nothing like this ever happened in his dreams. If it wasn’t real, Lyra would have disappeared so long ago, but she was still here. She was still right before him, fingers tangled in his hair as she deepened the kiss. His eyes had finally drifted closed, and though he had no idea what he was doing, he kissed her back.
It felt like an eternity before she finally pulled away, gasping for breath and cheeks tainted a dark scarlet. The two unknowingly mimicked each other by immediately focusing on the carpet, unable to look at one another. Silver had never kissed anyone before. He was so lost on the idea or love and romance, he had never been this intimate - or intimate at all - with anyone. He couldn’t help but wonder if she had ever kissed anyone. Was it possible that they were each other’s firsts? Did this mean as much to her as it did to him…?
“I-I’m…. s-sorry…” His friend suddenly apologized. His jaw clenched in response. ‘No, there’s nothing to be sorry about, I actually really liked that.' As much as he wanted to tell her that, there was no way he'd be able to. If he wasn't such an emotional recluse, this would be going a lot smoother. It just felt awkward right now. Although, now that he had a moment to collect his thoughts…
"…Why?" He suddenly asked. That alone might have been asking why she was sorry, which wasn’t the answer he was looking for. An explanation was in order. He cleared his throat and rubbed the back of his neck before continuing. "I-I mean, uh… N-Not about b-being sorry… Y-You really shouldn’t be… B-But… I just k-kinda want to know… Why. Y’know, w-why you did… That. If it was because I tried to, th-then… You didn’t… Have to…" He swallowed his nerves, hoping that didn’t sound like he was saying he disliked the kiss. He was just confused over her motivation and he wanted answers.
Her breathing was heavy, and it was almost too difficult to focus on the patterned carpet. She felt dizzy, she felt sick, and most of all, she didn't know how to express it. What did that mean? She didn't know. But she felt it. The arms around his neck loosened a bit for her fear of choking him, not wanting to ruin the moment. Somehow during the night she had gathered the courage to confess her feelings, hug him endlessly, and even kiss him. It was like she was a whole other person. Sure she was outgoing, but it took pure guts to do something like that.
But most importantly of all; Silver had kissed her back... what?! The pigtailed girl ran her tongue along her lips, feeling as though she could still taste him. Never in her dreams had something like this happened. But thankfully, this wasn't a dream. It was all real. Real, real, real. She had to keep reminding herself. Her eyes were still locked on the floor, fingers gently twisting more into the red strands. Hopefully she wasn't hurting him.
She didn't know what to do now. Should she... should she... kiss him again? He obviously liked it, but, how much of it? It felt like it went on forever, and she was still beating herself up on the inside for pulling away. What if she was really bad? The girl felt strangely itchy, and those ever persistent shivers were still running rampant around her body. What was this feeling? Somehow, when they'd gotten too close earlier, it'd been the same thing. Odd. She didn't understand it. Not one bit.
Like she'd remembered earlier, her mother had always told her about the feeling that everyone experiences at least once. Maybe this was finally it? It was stronger than a 'like like', it was more than 'friendship', and all she wanted to do was be in his arms twenty four seven.
"…Why?" It took her off guard. It pulled her from her thoughts... once again. Why, what? Oh... that. That light bulb clicked on in her mind. Why had she kissed him in the first place? Why was she here with him? Why did she want to spend all of her time and more with him? Love... that had to be it. It was the only solution. The girl smiled to herself as she knelt there, feeling as though she was on the top of a high cloud. She probably looked like an idiot, but she didn't care.
"I-I mean, uh… N-Not about b-being sorry… Y-You really shouldn’t be… B-But… I just k-kinda want to know… Why. Y’know, w-why you did… That. If it was because I tried to, th-then… You didn’t… Have to…" Her head shook a little at all the information he presented her, not knowing exactly how to word it. Obviously he was curious, and she intended on being completely and utterly honest with him.
"No... Silver..." That genuine smile was back. "W-When you tried to kiss me earlier... I... I've never wanted anything so badly in my entire life." Her blush deepened. It was true. Every word of it. "I've liked you for so long, and now, I...I... I'm sorry, it's just really hard to... word... it..." Would the concept of 'Love' scare him? Maybe it would be best not to mention it now. You never knew what kind of reaction you'd get with him. Better to play it safe.
"I kissed you because I wanted to. When you tried to e-earlier, it... it just made me realize how much I..." Her arms around his neck tightened once more. "How much I've wanted... you—" Did she actually just say that? Yeah, she did. Lyra should have banged her head against the wall. The girl had her hold on him, and was never going to let go.
"All this time... I've been so nervous to even say any of this to you..." The girl's head lifted up, pressing her forehead against his. "I-It's okay if you don't really know what to feel right now..." It was embarrassing for both of them, and she understood completely. She sighed, "That kiss... it... it was..." The brunette's eyes fluttered shut, "Really nice...." A happy exhale was heard, and if it was a cartoon, little pink hearts would have been floating around her.
She couldn't get too over excited now. That would just set him off. Taking a deep breath she ran her fingers through her brown locks, putting it all in the front. It was kind of tiring kneeling on the floor like this, and her legs didn't feel too hot right now. Not to mention, her blisters were still giving her trouble. One question was still on her mind though, and she was determined to know the answer. "Silver... did you... did you like.. the kiss..?" She hummed, crawling a bit closer... maybe a bit too close.
With a few clumsy movements the girl straddled herself on his lap, hands grasping carefully at his shoulders. Was this how people sat in these situations? She honestly didn't have a clue. Hopefully he wouldn't mind. After all, Silver had said earlier that she could never annoy him, no matter what she did. Good to know. The brunette's eyes were still planted on the floor, the kiss still permanently stamped into her mind. Was it his first, too?
After what seemed like forever, she finally spoke up again, "Silver... do.. d-do you... want to do it... again?" What had gotten into her tonight? Suddenly she was being so forward with her advances, and not even shying away from what she wanted most. His lips on hers. They didn't have to be anywhere important tomorrow, and they had all the time in the world. What she thought was going to be a night of 'sleeping' only, had turned into something way more exciting. She'd do anything to make Silver happy. Nothing felt better.
Cherry-Coloured Funk // Silver&Lyra
He could feel it. Despite how much he silently protested, no matter how much he begged for Lyra not to notice, she did. His sniffling, the hot tears that leaked from his tightly-shut eyes were noticed almost immediately, and it sent his heart beating faster than he could handle. Why was he crying, anyway? Why did he finally crack when this was one of the happiest moments of his life? It made no sense…!
Small arms tightened around Silver’s neck, pulling their bodies closer in a comforting manner. “Silver...” Her voice whispered carefully. Eyes wide open now, unable to keep still as they inspecting the wrinkles in the bed sheets and the color of the pillow case. He was trembling, the tears wouldn’t stop, and he didn’t know what to do. “Hey….Everything’s going to be okay….” She spoke again. Her words didn’t feel real.
His body tensed the second she pulled away from him, and a delicate finger slipped under his chin to pull his head up, so they could meet each other’s eyes. Hers were still glassy with tears, her face splashed with a light red and a sincere smile on her lips. ‘No, no! Don’t look at me! I’m stupid, I’m weak, I’m vulnerable, I’m scared! I’m scared of you!! I’m scared of me!! Don’t touch me! Don’t look at me! Get away from me!!’
Insincere thoughts clogged his mind, practically deafening in volume, and it all stemmed from fear. He had to resist the urges to revert to what was comfortable and unhealthy - He couldn’t run, he couldn’t hide, he couldn’t try and fail to fix himself again, all by himself. Silver needed Lyra here, with him. Her hand moved from his neck to his cheek, thumb tenderly wiping away the river of tears on his face. Eyes flicked down to her hand, then back to her face. “It’s okay… It’s… it’s okay….”
Everything would be okay… Would it really? Would he be okay…? He was completely frozen, unable to keep the tears from falling from her eyes, much less his own. “Just… don’t… please, don’t cry… I-I’m here…” Finally, they slipped down her porcelain cheeks, and his frame stiffened again. No, don’t cry, don’t cry! She had just told him not to cry, she wasn’t allowed to, either! He wanted to reach forward to do… something to make her better, but he couldn’t. He just gawked at her anxiously, like a fool.
“S-Silver.. I-I… I’ll always stay with you..” Lyra told him, causing his teeth to clench and eyes to widen. “A-And… I-… I’ll never leave you… even if you hated me…” Both hands moved to cup his face after she wiped a lingering tear off of her own, and it was now that he was completely lost. He didn’t know what to do, he didn’t know what to say. He sniffled again, trying so hard to keep himself together, but he was just so overwhelmed with random emotions that he didn’t know what to do with himself. But it didn’t look like she was scared, or grossed out, or anything like that. She just said that… She would never leave… "Please, Silver…” She tried to continue. “I-I… just… I’m.. I’m so glad we finally got to talk about this… A-And… and everything is going to be just fine…”
Silver swallowed the lump in his throat, finally pulling a hand up to clean up his face, which was a mess of salty tears. He had always felt so alone, unless they were together. She made him feel… Okay. She had always been so important to him, and now… She had told him that he was important to her. He would have never guessed he meant anything to Lyra. ”Y-You…” It took him a moment to string together a coherent sentence. “You’re s-so… Stupid…” He dropped his hand, but didn’t meet her gaze. “I… I couldn’t… Hate you… I never did…”
He finally looked back up at her, grey eyes glazed with emotion. He didn’t know what to say, other than that. This entire thing felt like a dream. He felt like, if he touched her, she would vanish and he would wake up alone with a gaping hole in his heart, just like he did every morning. This entire thing felt surreal, and now that he had thought about it, he was afraid this was another dream trying to play with his heart for a few laughs.
Taking in a shaky breath, his hand slowly and warily lifted again, pausing occasionally to regain his bravery, before it finally found its way to her face. He touched her skin, so attentively, and just waited for her to vanish. But, she didn’t. She didn’t fade from existence, his hand didn’t phase through her, she didn’t melt, she didn’t… Leave. She was still here. She was real. This moment was real.
"…Lyra…" Silver carefully whispered her name, reaching up with his other hand to hold her face. A strange urge poked at the back of his mind, a thought that he couldn’t really understand but didn’t have the desire to push away. What was this idea, jumping around in his head…? Eventually, both hands slid back, behind her neck. Gathering all of his confidence, he gingerly pulled her forward and swallowed harshly. What was he doing, exactly…? What was he thinking? What was she thinking…?
It was like he was being possessed. Silver didn’t understand what he was doing, but he wanted to go along with it. His face was burned with a heat he was so unfamiliar with, his heart beating with anxiety and curiosity… Feelings that he couldn’t name, urges he couldn’t figure out… Their faces drew close, he could feel Lyra’s breath on his skin, his senses clogged by her scent. She hadn’t tried to stop him, yet… Did she understand where this was going…? Would she be okay with it…?
He didn’t understand why he wanted this, he didn’t get what it meant, but all that was on his mind was Lyra. He wanted her, he needed her, he wanted to show her just how important she really was. These feelings that had been bottled inside of him for too long wanted to get out. They were centimeters from each other now, their lips practically brushing, all he had to do was move in and eliminate the last bit of distance between them.
Just at the last second, all of his courage vanished without warning and he paused, before ripping himself away from her and pushing her onto the bed while he practically flew into the wall across the room. He slouched down onto the carpet, face almost mashed into the wall and hands grabbing his hair. What was he thinking?! What was wrong with him?! They were having a god damn moment and he just ruined it! Stupid, stupid, stupid!
“I-I-I’m s-sorry!!" He practically screamed, voice cracking with unfathomable embarrassment. "I-I don’t know what came over me, I-I w-was just confused, p-please don’t hate me! I’m sorry, I’m sorry!”
Flashbacks of their whole night flew through her mind. There was the meeting... and the hugs... and the... crying. Why was there always crying? Then there was the walk, and the tickets to Unova... that she'd practically ripped in half knowing that he wasn't okay with her leaving. When did she ever think that it would be okay to leave him alone.... when? She'd never leave him now. He was stuck with her forever. And she almost forgot the most important part. There was also dinner, and him carrying her from place to place because of her nasty blisters. Which still hurt, in fact. Their whole day had actually turned out to be really... nice. Even if they did have a few bumps in the road.
Lyra didn't want to stop touching him. She just didn't. The way her arms fit perfectly around his neck felt too right. They'd never been this close before... ever. Why hadn't they been doing this all along?! Things like this took time though... and even she, of all people, knew that. The only thing that mattered was that they were here now. What would happen after tonight? What would change between them? Those thoughts plagued her mind.
The silence between them was ever growing, and it made her even more nervous by the second. This closeness between them... this... feeling. ”Y-You…” She bit down on her lower lip. “You’re s-so… Stupid…” The hand dropped, avoiding her gaze. “I… I couldn’t… Hate you… I never did…” That made her smile. All those times that she'd been a pest... he was always there. Over several years she'd calmed down significantly from their first meeting. Thankfully. But... she needed more reassurance. She needed... more.
Out of all the times they'd spent together, this had to be her favorite. She didn't remember any period in their lives when they were this intimate with each other. They'd always been just friends, but, maybe something was finally going to change. In the past, whenever she even tried to hug Silver, he'd never return it. Lyra always just thought it was a one way street, him not even giving a damn about her. Boy, was she wrong.
A faint whisper reached her in the chaos "…Lyra…" His hand reached up to hold her face, and she just couldn't look away. It's not like she wanted to anyways. Her large brown eyes were fixated by his, a gentle smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. She just couldn't resist. It was like looking right into that head of his. That beautiful, beautiful, head. His next action really surprised her... more than she'd ever want to admit. Large palms were locked around the back of her neck and pulled her forward into a sweet embrace. This was totally unlike him. And that's what made it so... exciting.
Bright red stained both of their cheeks as they just sat there, not knowing what to do next. Lyra was not experienced in things like... this. He smelled so... musky. His lips were dangerously close. Not close enough. A drop of sweat leaked down the side of her face, noticing the way it inched across her cheek. Feeling the hot breath against her chin sent shivers up her spine, as she involuntarily leaned forward, eyes fluttering shut. The anticipation was killing her. Was this actually going to happen?
The brunt shove caught her off guard as she was thrown against the sheets, landing with a soft thud. He never did anything like this. Never. Was something wrong? Did she smell? A slight headache shook around in her brain, causing her to let out a small 'hiss' and raise a hand to her scalp. Silver had retreated to the other wall, shouting various apologies as he grasped at his hair roughly. “I-I-I’m s-sorry!!" His voice cracked. It was cute. "I-I don’t know what came over me, I-I w-was just confused, p-please don’t hate me! I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” What? Did he... did he actually feel that way? Why would he be confused...? Maybe he didn't want to kiss her.
They had gotten so close just then... the heat from his body still present against her pallid skin. Whenever he was around, she wasn't cold anymore. To be honest, she felt a little woozy from it all. But... looking at Silver in such... distraught... it felt like someone had just punched her in the gut. Lyra needed to do something. And she needed to do it quickly... before he freaked out again. There was no thinking anymore. Her heart was doing all the work now.
She hesitantly walked over to him, taking the smallest steps that she possibly could. She didn't want to frighten him. Arceus, no. Lyra wanted this... why did he push her away? With a small bend in her knees she knelt down on the floor gently in front of him, a smile on those ever pleasant features. Her heart felt like it was about to explode, and those pesky butterfree's appeared back in her stomach. This was the most nervous she'd ever been in her entire life. What was she doing? Sometimes, even she didn't know.
Her hands caressed his shoulders in a light squeeze and turned him to face her, giving him a reassuring smile. Everything was going to be alright. Lyra needed to show him that. She just.... needed to. She let out a deep breath through her nostrils, stroking the side of his face with her palm. "Silver... look at me..." The girl whispered softly, thumb running across the rough skin against his cheek. "You did nothing wrong... nothing. Please don't be sorry... a-and... I...I don't know why you pulled away earlier..." There was no doubt in her mind that she wanted to do this. It all came naturally.
"I-If you don't like it... j-just... say so...."
Soft lips pressed hesitantly against his, eyes shutting tightly. Inside her head she was screaming. Why did this feel so right? She didn't want to be in any moment but this. Just this. His lips felt chapped against her own, but she didn't mind. Her mom was right. These things did happen. Her hands slowly crept their way back around his neck, pulling him closer. It felt like some sort of dream. She wanted to slap herself across the face. This was real. It was all... real. Her head lightly tilted to the side as her fingers softly pulled at his red strands, pushing her body a little bit closer to his. Her cheeks were dangerously hot, and she was sure that she was getting sick or something.
The girl pulled away against her will, out of breath, and taking in more than enough air for her tiny little body. She had never kissed anyone before, and didn't really know how it all worked. Silver was her first. Not knowing if he'd be okay with it or not, her eyes locked on the carpet beside them, avoiding his gaze. She was so embarrassed, more than she'd ever been in her life time. Her cheeks had turned even darker than earlier, and her heart rate was sky rocketing. "I-I'm.... s-sorry..." The girl murmured, hanging her head down. Why was she apologizing when she enjoyed it so much?

I-Is that you...? [ Lyra & Proton ]
Proton leaned back in his seat, the pokemon center lights felt too bright, and Lyra’s eyes seemed to pierce him. Slowly he folded his arms over his chest, a defensive posture. Had her words actually caught his attention? Made him think? Proton scowled, her flippant tone irritating him.
"Good or bad, girl?" Proton scoffed. "If only the world were so black and white, so simple to understand." His distant eyes had taken on a keen look and he leaned forward, palms coming to rest on his knees. "And what does a girl like you know of the world? So you went on to become the Pokemon League champion. Big deal." The scorn dripped off his words, pulled at the edges of his mouth.
In his voice hung the notes of a jaded world-view. Distaste for the way of things evident. Proton’s head tilted in a slightly inquisitive way. ”What makes Team Rocket so bad? Its a job, and for many people, its also a home.”
And then something jarred in Proton and he straightened, teeth clenched. ”Was. Was a home.” Where had Archer taken Team Rocket after the radio tower? It seemed that the carpet beneath Proton’s feet had been pulled out from under him.
"What are you doing with yourself, anyway?" He suddenly snapped, eager to move away from the touchy subject. "No doubt bored to tears without any more badges to collect- you must be if you've resorted to consorting with the likes of me.” And there is a malicious grin on Proton’s face as he leans forward a little bit more. A dark humor dancing in his eyes.
The tension in the room was growing high as Lyra twirled a strand of hair between her fingers, avoiding eye contact with the aqua haired man. "Good or bad, girl?" She sighed. "If only the world were so black and white, so simple to understand." Yeah... why couldn't the world be so easy? It broke her down inside knowing that every day was just one closer to the end. Even though she always did her best to be cheery... it was getting more difficult with each passing day. And now was not helping.
The posture he had taken suddenly seemed more serious, the tone in his voice lowering "And what does a girl like you know of the world? So you went on to become the Pokemon League champion. Big deal." To Lyra, it really wasn't a big deal. She gave it up, didn't she? The truth was she just liked the journey. But as soon as she reached the end, it was kind of a bummer. Realizing that his words were rolling inside her mind, she opened her mouth "I know enough." She snapped back, pursing her lips.
”What makes Team Rocket so bad? It's a job, and for many people, its also a home.” Too bad, they could suck it up. Life was tough, and people needed to find their own way. Surprised by her own thoughts she covered her mouth, eyes growing wide. Sure Lyra hated Team Rocket, but... no, Proton was a bad influence. A really bad influence.
”Was. Was a home.” Her head hung lower at the tone in his voice, folding her arms even tighter together. Thankfully no one was watching them as they had their little 'conversation', as Nurse Joy was probably too busy hiding in the back.
"What are you doing with yourself, anyway?" Those words stung like a knife driving deep into her chest. What was she doing? She had never actually taken the time to think about it. Traveling? Training? The usual. "I've been plenty busy." She murmured, shooting him an angry glance. "No doubt bored to tears without any more badges to collect- you must be if you've resorted to consorting with the likes of me.” She clenched a fist. "H-Hey! I just ran into you in the rain. It's not like I had any say in it. And you don't seem to be complaining." He leaned closer, a bit too close for comfort.

Wait.. do I know you? [ Lyra & Volkner ]
Volkner nodded as the brunette headed towards an isolated table on the far side of the area, smiling reassuringly as he headed inside to order their drinks. At the counter he greeted the barista in a similar manner, a gesture that the young girl returned enthusiastically. “Volkner!” she exclaimed. “What a nice surprise. Aren’t you supposed to be at the Gym today, though?”
The Gym Leader gave a sheepish smirk, glanced hesitantly in Lyra’s direction. “Well, I suppose… but there wasn’t any challengers today, so I decided to step out for a while, so…”
"I see, I see," the girl hummed, flipping open her notebook. "Well then, what would you like today?"
"Just a black coffee for me, and a cappuccino for Lyra."
And suddenly the barista was gaping at him, in utter disbelief that the man was actually here with a girl. But Volkner only stared back in confusion until she closed her mouth slowly and scribbled the order down. “… Alright,” she nodded, “it’ll be ready for you soon.” She handed off the stand with their order number clipped to the top (twelve, Volkner noted in his mind) and scurried into the kitchen.
Volkner sighed a little, twirling the stand he held between two fingers. There was always someone who felt the need to gossip about his life. If he wasn’t the Gym Leader nobody would likely care what happened to him, and in a way he really wished they wouldn’t.
But, whatever. He couldn’t do much about it now, after all.
Venturing back outside the blond headed over to the table where Lyra sat patiently, flopping down in the seat opposite hers. She gave him a curious look, silently asking what his problem was. “Ah, don’t worry,” he answered dismissively, setting the number down on the table and fiddling with it until it was dead-centre on its surface. “Some people just need to learn how to mind their own business, I guess.”
It was a little awkward for Lyra to be at the table alone. She was always fidgeting with her hair, or the hem of her shorts, and couldn't just sit still. Being by herself was not something she enjoyed. People were staring at her and whispering, probably seeing her with the older blonde. I mean, she had to guess that the age gap wasn't that extreme. So, it had to be something else. Getting ready to stand up from the table and go over, the blonde came back into the picture, number in hand.
Her eyes lit up as soon as Volkner returned, happy that she had her company back. She was a little disheartened at the look on his face, frowning as he took a seat. "What's the matter?" The girl murmured, twirling one of her ponytail strands between her fingers. “Ah, don’t worry,” he spoke, somewhat quietly “Some people just need to learn how to mind their own business, I guess.”
"A-Ah, yeah... I agree!" She chimed in, eyes glancing to the table of girls across the way, deciding not to say anything about it to the male. The number on the table was perfectly arranged as she stared at it, tilting her head slightly to the side. "Did... something happen in there?" She motioned to the doors, actually concerned on what had gotten him so down.
Too bad their coffee wasn't ready yet... but it was alright, she was used to waiting. With a large exhale she looked at him across the table, trying to figure out what else to say. It made her nervous when there was no conversation, so she always tried to bring up some meager subject. "So... have you always lived here?" Her hands moved to her hat, making sure it was positioned just right. "I probably already told you I was from Johto. Born and raised." With a shrug she crossed her arms, leaning back into her seat.
The sweatshirt that she had slipped on earlier was finally starting to feel a little bit drier, relishing in the fact that she was wearing warm clothing.
Cherry-Coloured Funk // Silver&Lyra
Once Silver had finally managed to spit it out, there had been nothing but silence between the two of them for what felt like an eternity. All he could think about was how stupid he felt, how grossed out she must have been by his bizarre feelings that he couldn’t really explain. All he knew was that Lyra was really, truly important to him. That was the only way he could say it, because he couldn’t figure out what else to call this feeling.
“Silver….” His friend’s tiny voice spoke up, causing his heart to flutter. “I-I….” It seemed like she couldn’t find the right words. Was that a bad thing? What did it mean? She must have been thinking about how to tell him how uncomfortable or scared he made her, surely? She probably hated him now. No, wait, there was no question about it, she certainly hated him after that. He was a fool, opening his heart to anyone. He shouldn’t have said anything.
He felt a hand rest on his own, and his entire body tensed at the touch. Lyra patted the back of his in a comforting manner. “Silver, it’s alright. Sh… don’t worry.” That must have meant that she saw it - He was going to panic if he didn’t do something. So she was trying to help, huh…? He couldn’t meet her eyes, so his darted around the carpet, trying to find something to focus on. She squeezed his hand, and he could practically feeling the warmth radiating from her. His face was reddening and his body trembling, but even that small gesture had helped. He just needed to relax. That was it. Take slow breaths in, slow breaths out… He’d be fine.
But after that, it went quiet again. Silence was so dangerous, it lead busy minds to wander into places they shouldn’t go. He’d told her how he felt. Sort of. Saying she was important to him was a huge thing to him, and it was the only thing he knew that could even slightly express his feelings about her. If only he could figure it out… If only he wasn’t an idiot! Unfortunate for him. But, she didn’t seem to be afraid of what he had said, so… That was a good sign, right?
"I…I…I feel the same." Silver’s ice cold heart practically stopped when she finally spoke up again. She… Lyra actually… He was… Important to someone? He was important to… Her? Of all the reactions he had come up with in his head, this was the only one he hadn’t considered. "I know this is going to sound r-really stupid… b-but… I don’t want to be around anyone but you.” Surprise came oozing up his throat, and he had to swallow. A small part of him got excited, screaming ‘That’s it!’, because that was how he felt as well. He hated people, and even the friends he had managed to make were exhausting to be around for too long.
But Lyra… She… He could be with her for days on end - Weeks, perhaps, and he could never get tired of her. He didn’t need to do anything in particular with her, he just… Wanted to be with her. He actually liked her company, he felt lonely when she wasn’t around. It hadn’t made any sense in his head, all these loose thoughts floating around, but hearing her say it finally made it all make sense.
Grey eyes subsequently managed to look in her general direction, and as she continued to pour her heart out, he saw her lift a hand to wipe her face. With no doubt in his mind, the first thought he had was that she was crying. But, w-what did that mean, exactly…? “I hadn’t seen you in so long, I didn’t know what to do with myself anymore. It was like some big weight was off my shoulders. I hadn’t felt that happy in months.”
All of this at once was almost sending Silver into a state of shock. He had never suspected that she had these sorts of feelings about him. Someone being happy to see him was… So otherworldly, so bizarre, he had no idea how to react. The fact that it was the one person he cared about made it have an even bigger impact. She liked him? She liked being with him? She… Didn’t hate him…?
"A-And I-I hope I’m not stupid for doing this."
Slowly, cautiously, Lyra got up onto the bed and approached him, gently wrapping her arms around his neck to hug him tightly. Once again, he tensed at the touch, heart pounding as she nuzzled into his neck to calm herself. What was going on…? This all turned out so much differently than he had expected… He thought confessing those kinds of things to her would scare her away, but… Here she was, stuck to him like dried glue. Human contact was just as foreign to him as emotions were, so he barely had any clue what to do once she had embraced him.
It was almost like something had possessed Silver, because he would never be able to do this intentionally - Just as carefully as she had hugged him, his arms locked around her small body, returning it ever so warily. He was scared, so scared, but that wasn’t the only thing he felt. What else was there? Relief…? Relief that she actually cared about him, despite how awful he was? Perhaps that was what finally made him crack.
He began shaking again, trying to swallow his emotions and failing miserably. He sniffled quietly, trying his hardest to hold back his tears, but they must have been screaming to get out, because without much warning, they began to slip down his cheeks. He cried, like everyone did, but he had never cried in front of anyone. He was fearful that she would notice, and only begged that she wouldn’t. Maybe she wouldn’t notice his grasp get tighter, or his repressed sniffling… Silver was stupid to think she wouldn’t notice any of it.
In this moment, there was no where else in the world she would rather be. Sure, she could go to Unova, or Kalos, or one of those new and fruitful regions, but... they wouldn't have him. Lyra didn't actually get what made her like him so much. Maybe it was the way he stuck around her? Or, maybe it was the way that even though she could be a little annoying sometimes, he didn't even seem to care. Stuff like that ran deep in Lyra's book, and with Silver, it was more than an exception.
The time that they had spent apart, she felt hopelessly and utterly alone. She didn't even get why, until now. Somehow, figuring all of this out with him made it... better. There was no way she could have done this by herself, but knowing that he felt the same, just made her heart flutter. Her moms voice kept playing throughout her head, the tears in her eyes getting stronger by the second.
Before the girl knew it, arms were in turn wrapping around her small frame, grasping tightly to the back of her clothes. Was... was she just imagining this? But... from what she remembered, Silver had never hugged her back. Had something in him... changed? She sniffled into his dark shirt, thankful that she wouldn't leave any marks on the cloth. Relief washed over the two of them as they sat there, embracing for what seemed like eternity. And in Lyra's mind, she could stay there forever.
His scent still seemed to calm her nerves, and the sound of the two of them breathing eased the tightness in her chest. Not to sound too sappy, but for her, it was like a sort of... 'dream come true'. Never had Lyra felt this happy in her entire life. Sure she was always a joyful girl with not a care in the world, but everyone has problems. And here they were. Silver and Lyra. Hugging in a dingy little Pokemon Center Room, seeming as though they'd never split from this moment.
Her eyes closed tighter from this feeling, giving herself a small shake to be sure it wasn't another one of her stupid dreams. As soon as she was about to pull away, she felt arms tighten against her, a small sniffling sound emerging from the other. Was... was he... crying...? Lyra choked down the lump in her throat, drying her eyes on the collar of his shirt. Should she say something? Or just keep quiet? This was all going so fast, it barely gave her time to think. Good thing she didn't need to. Her arms, seeming as though they had a mind of their own, tightened around his neck instinctively, pulling him in closer.
"Silver..." She murmured, running a hand through his bright red hair. "Hey....Everything's going to be okay...." Hopefully her words would reassure him that there was nothing to fear, and it was okay if his emotions played out in front of her. She didn't mind. Not one bit. Her head pulled away slightly to look at him, finger slipping under his chin to tilt his head up so she could get a good look at him. Tears were lightly streaming down his cheeks as he looked at her, obviously trying to keep it together.
She shook her head side to side, giving him a close mouthed smile. Her small delicate hand was removed from his neck and rested against his cheek, using her thumb to gently wipe away the falling tears. "It's okay..." The girl whispered, cupping both of his cheeks between her soft hands. "It's... it's okay...." She held back tears herself, the water in her eyes becoming too much for her to even see clearly. The pain in her chest only became worse as she watched him cry, doing her best to not wail out in front of him. "Just... don't... please, don't cry... I-I'm here..."
What could she do to comfort him? The girl always had trouble expressing her 'true' feelings about anything, but now, it felt as though she could actually formulate a proper sentence. One thing was for sure. Lyra would stick to him no matter what happened. In the past, through thick and thin, she was always there, ready to lend a helping hand, or pick him up when he fell. Maybe it would be best to let him know the feelings that she held inside. "S-Silver.. I-I... I'll always stay with you.." She murmured, wiping a tear from her own cheek. "A-And... I-... I'll never leave you... even if you hated me..."
Even though it pained her to see him like this, it was best that he got it out. He just had to. Her hand cupped the side of his face, rubbing it softly with her thumb. She stared into his dark grey eyes, seeming as though they'd turned a bit lighter since she looked at him now. But then again, maybe it was just her imagination. By attempting to comfort Silver, she, herself, was starting to feel better. Her lids finally dried and her wide smile came back into play, grinning at him as her hand continued to caress his soaked cheek.
"Please, Silver..." She spoke gently, not knowing exactly how to continue. Lyra had said all that she could think of. "I-I... just..." The girl sighed and grinned again, giving a small shrug. "I'm.. I'm so glad we finally got to talk about this..." She gave a little sigh and wiped another tear from his cheek, hands returning to grasp the back of his neck. "A-And... and everything is going to be just fine..." Those butterflies in her stomach seemed to finally fly away as she looked into those mysterious pupils, seeing that familiar gleam that she was so used to. Everything was going to be just fine.

Wait.. do I know you? [ Lyra & Volkner ]
Lyra’s embarrassment made Volkner give an amused smirk, deciding not to comment and embarrass her further. She fiddled with her hair and oversized hoodie a little, before suggesting they go find a place to get a drink. “Oh—” the blond started, surprised by Lyra’s seemingly sudden change of heart. “— sure, if you’d like. There are a few good places to get coffee around here.”
He wandered back towards the shoreline, frowning slightly at the feel of dry sand clinging to his wet feet. Together they picked up their belongings and made their way to the small, cliff-like wall that separated the route from the beach. Volkner sat down on it immediately and began to brush the sand off his feet, an irritated expression hanging over his features until the process was complete.
"Alright," he sighed, standing again once his shoes were back in position. His hands brushed at the fabric of his jeans, attempting to remove any trace of the beach he could find. "Let’s get going."
The crowds of around the city had died down a little since they last walked through, leaving only scattered pedestrians that went about their errands quietly. Volkner liked to be out at this time of day, if he was forced to choose a time to be out — it was the perfect level of comfort and solitude, exactly what he liked. He led them to a small cafe just behind the Pokemon Centre, breathing a soft sigh as he took in the worn wooden coffee tables and the faded picnic umbrellas. They stopped in front of a menu board, where Volkner turned his attentions to Lyra to suggest a plan. “I’ll go order for us,” he began, jerking a thumb in the direction of the wide open French door, “you find a spot to sit? Just tell what you’d like.”
Lyra stood patiently next to the man as he brushed the sand from his feet, giving little smiles and waving to the people that walked past them. They seemed to be whispering to each other as they walked past, not even giving a second gaze. Were they talking about her? She tilted her head in confusion, snapping back to reality as Volkner spoke up. "Alright" He said with a sigh, pulling his shoes back on. "Let's get going."
She nodded and followed closely behind him, making sure that there was no possible way of getting lost. There'd be no stopping to smell the flowers with this guy. It was sort of peaceful as the two walked, seeming as though the crowds of people had gone home for the day. Hopefully there wouldn't be many civilians where they were headed, due to the fact that she was looking forward to getting to know him better, and the noise wouldn't help. He was interesting, and even though he barely said much, she was still intrigued.
As soon as they reached the Cafe behind the nearby Pokemon Center, Lyra made sure to note where it was. She'd have to remember it in case she'd bring some of her friends over to the region. The weathered wooden tables brought an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere to the place, causing a smile to form across the girl's face. It seemed as though it had a classy but country feel to it, as the two inspected the small menu board.
Her eyes scanned the various words, trying to figure out what would be best. They had so many things... it was too difficult to choose. “I’ll go order for us,” He spoke up, jerking his thumb in the way of the open door. “you find a spot to sit? Just tell me what you’d like.” Lyra nodded in agreement, taking a few steps back as she looked around, trying to find the perfect place to sit. "Ah... I'll have a cappuccino!" She said quickly, eyes locking on a table in the distance. "I'll be over there." She pointed to a deserted area and began walking over, giving a second glance behind her shoulder to make sure he heard her.
