trying to explain why i like horror to people who don’t: ok so you know how it’s fun to be deeply disturbed and unsettled
bruce’s charm is that he’s always scared and dick’s is that he never is
bad barbara gordon comic: i am dick’s devoted girlfriend, batgirl, and the glue that holds the batboys together :)
good barbara gordon comic: i have devised a 28-step psychosexual torment sequence for dinah. by step 26, in a few months, she’ll be begging (through the appliances in her apartment that she knows i have wiretapped) for me to let her cum. we’re on step 14 right now, though, so she’s deep undercover in an intelligence agency in ljubljana, slovenia.

My favorite dumb factoid is that Dick was cosmically ordained to die during Infinite Crisis.
This is not only the reason why he constantly gets into near-death experiences (because the universe is trying to kill him to right itself), but also there’s an infinite number of realities killing him gruesomely in order to achieve this and maintain their universe’s integrity.
Dick is stuck in a perpetual loop of suffering across timelines because he was predesignated to do so to save it, like some kind of DC Jesus, and it is the silliest enforced kicking-while-down ever. By the decree of the goddamn multiverse, Dick cannot have a break.
DC JESUS😭🙏
I'm going to start calling him this
I think it's relevant to note that the storyline of "Dick was fated to die tragically in every cosmic event since Infinite Crisis, but the universe kept saving him thus denying the world an endless Golden Age, which somehow makes it all right for Conner Kent to casually push Dick Grayson into the Infinite Painful Murder Crystal (which Conner has lying around his basement for... reasons?) just so Conner gets to be with Wonder Girl. Though the fact he even makes sure to cover up the IPMC with a tarpaulin so no one else can see what he's done, suggests he knows he's just something pretty bloody damnable)" was a one-shot story written by Dan DiDio, years after he'd left (or been pushed) his position as DC Comics Vice President/Executive Editor/co-Publisher
The same Dan DiDio who, in 2006, had indeed planned to kill off Dick Grayson in Infinite Crisis as he thought killing the heart of the DCU would bring the other characters together once and for all.
To the surprise of nobody, except DiDio, this was was not seen as a brilliant notion. Public reaction was not good, with him telling an anecdote about even his luggage being held hostage at an airport by a airline staff member who said he'd get the luggage back if he promised Nightwing wouldn't be killed off.
Also, pretty much every editor and writer at DC told him what a stunningly bad idea it would be, because Dick was too much of a lynchpin to casually dispose of. So, as a compromise, Conner was chosen to die in Infinite Crisis instead.
With my most charitable hat on, I think the IPMC story was supposed to be a humourous riposte to the reactions at the time, justifying his original choice with a final "See, I'd have been right!"
However, I think the general assessment was that it comes across as a rather mean-spirited story with a strong whiff of sour grapes.
Here are the exchanges I was looking for
That's Mark Waid, George Perez, Bob Wayne and Kurt Busiek
This one is from Dido himself.
Yeah, my OG tags mention his involvement:
But the whole thing is just really, really silly. If anything, I find the consequences of this one-shot are far less egregious than what happened to Dick post-Infinite Crisis.
Dick’s narrative drift post-IC just… sucked, and it wasn’t even the entertaining form of sucky that certain poor media achieves. Blüdhaven was nuked, we got Bruce Jones, his entire character just kind of hit the fan for over a year... eughhh. I even blame the annual on him.
At least this is the kind of absurd that becomes comical. DC Jesus is unintentionally the funniest thing ever I’m sorry 😭 😭 😭
Regardless, I cannot fathom what type of person you gotta be to have so much beef with a comic book character LOL.
Okay, I’m being facetious here. I do know why. I know his whole thing against legacy characters, and especially Dick, was how they aged the “stars” (à la Bruce). But still. You’re beefing with a concept of a person. Cool it.
The amount Roy and Oliver bring up Dick in Green Arrow (2001) is incredible btw. It is always some combination of confused, admiring, and varying levels of concerned. He is an enigma.
The “arrowcave” name coming from Dick is one thing:
It’s just adorable. Roy’s denial over how he supported it is even more so. I see who you are, Roy. You just like him. We can be honest here.
But it’s the gossiping about Dick and Bruce’s relationship that gets me. They’ve been watching this soap opera for decades now and they are judging. They have opinions.
Bro said “nothing like what Nightwing had to put up with” when his mentor was Oliver. Like DAMN. Give yourself some credit 😭
BAD nightwing comic: blockbuster’s nephew kidnapped my disposable girlfriend in his effort to gentrify bludhaven!! gotta call in bruce and jason and tim and damian and barbara and cass and steph and duke and the titans and
GOOD nightwing comic: 📞 barbara. the voices. are telling me to kill myself. no don’t hang up
dick did used to have a DNR on file because all the bats have contingency paperwork about how they want their care to be handled in the case of incapacity and bruce absolutely replaced it with an advanced care directive stating that dick wanted his life to be prolonged to the fullest extent with whatever methods were available. he forged dick's signature and invented two witnesses and felt zero compunction about this dick may have said he didn't want to be on a ventilator but he was incorrect about that <3
i feel very strongly that bruce would prefer a nutrient-dense kibble with which to get all of his daily calories and dick would gravitate towards a smoothie consistency

and do you see how when Thomas lost his Dick Grayson he went and sought out a new Dick Grayson rather than any eligible young lad? Hoes loyal………..
«...I'm not giving up on you and I being a team again.»
not now kitten, daddy's only got 24 hours a day
bruce should no longer take his eldest son to charity galas
collar your top. they need it
if you leash them you can yank them down while they mount you. btw
Dick's got a reputation for liking gingers but he actually seems to be more consistently into people who are taller than him
Height references under cut 👇
One important thing to know about me is that I will never give up on Dick Grayson being 8 years old when Bruce Wayne found him.
For one, it’s funny to imagine baby Dick Grayson beating up bad guys while making bad puns.
For two, Dick and Bruce being orphaned at the same age is an important parallel between them.
For three, making Dick older than 8 at the beginning of his Robin career decreases the time he and Bruce spent together as Batman and Robin and we need every minute of it to explain whatever the fuck those two have going on.
Also, there is no good reason to change it.
“It makes Bruce seem more reasonable.”
Really? I admit, putting an 8 year old in a costume to take him crime fighting is a bit unhinged by real world standards. But if the kid is 10 or 12, that’s no different. Still insane. So sorry, I don’t buy that reason.
“The timeline…”
The timeline is broken beyond repair anyway. Fiddling with Dick Grayson’s age is like putting a bandaid on a gushing stab wound - a dirty bandaid that also gives the patient an infection.
“It explains his skills better.”
They don’t need explaining. He is the boy wonder, not the boy midfest, because he was extraordinary smart, fast and athletic, even at a very young age.
So the benefits of making him older are not worth destroying the parallels between Dick and Bruce. I dare say the benefits are nonexistent.
