Marcell’s Memory
Delfina and I were inseparable. We did everything together. We executed our heists with professional efficiency. We successfully exchanged ransoms, committed robberies, and quite a number of other crimes. We were perfect together.
One day I had managed to get my hands on a map that led to what was supposed to be our biggest accomplishment yet. On an island far away, sitting in the ruins yet to be claimed, was an extremely powerful artifact. One that would grant its wielder immense power. We were quite ecstatic. Why, with an artifact such as this, we would be unstoppable.
Our destination was quite the trip, though it would be an easy one for individuals such as ourselves. Delfina the elegant and graceful Atavin, and Marcell the fearsome Avien. While she possessed the most beautiful blue butterfly wings one could only wish they had, I had the mighty and rigorous wings of the dreaded vampire bat. We got to the ruins with little difficulty.
Delfina often told me how much she wanted to have this artifact in her possession and I searched far and wide for its location to give to her as a token of our love. If only I had known…
As we made our way past the traps, and through the perilous mazes, we eventually found our way into the room that held the artifact. I took one step towards it. That’s when the cold and immense feeling introduced itself into my chest. It felt like it took ages for me to process what had happened. I looked down as if to confirm the stake that was lodged through my chest. I turned my head to see her. Her smile…still beautiful as it was when I first met her. My eyes welled with tears as I thought to myself, “Why?”
A cold withering feeling that burned within my soul fueled my anger. One I didn’t quite understand, for I had no memories of my past life. I ‘awoke’ that day feeling cold, and alone.
