9 Ways to Connect and Protect Your ID Cards
When you are thinking about how your staff or business will implement id cards as source of security are you also thinking about how they will be holding them?
Some offices leave it up to their staff and others opt for the badge reel or the lanyard. We think those are excellent options for displaying your company identification card and maximizing your security efforts. However, one area that most companies, events or organizations don’t give much thought to, is the actual id badge holder method. In other words, how is the id being displayed? How is it connected to the lanyard or badge reel? Even better, Is it connected at all?
Armband badge holders, Cardbook Card holders and Wrist ID holders are all viable options as well.
Of course, since it’s our passion we’re thinking about this all the time, but we often find that many purchasers of blank id cards and lanyards are left figuring out this option after they’ve already committed to that particular badging system. There are many ways to attach an ID to it’s method of being displayed.
Here are 9 separate ways that you can effectively attach and display your id card:
Armband Badge Holders - Probably one of the least thought of but most effective methods is using armband badge holders. They can help employees or attendees have their id card or credentials displayed at all times. They are often tougher than traditional lanyards and badge reels. Most importantly they are really effective at staying out of the way for active personnel. Imagine dock workers or warehouse personnel using a lanyard!
Badge Clips - Are more of facilitator between two attachment methods, but they are still an effective solution to help you connect your id badge to your id badge holder, id card and/or lanyard (or badge reel!). Badge clips come in many forms depending your needs. They can be plastic, straps, pins, circular, hooks, carabiner style and even magnetic. These little guys can be the difference between being able to reuse id cards or badge holders many times and their life being shortened by cracking or breakage.
Badge Holders - These are also an excellent and very versatile component of the id badging system. Again, they are very useful for events that looking to create a more sustainable environment because they are a very well designed and reusable item. They can easily be attached to lanyards or badge reels. An added benefit is that many of them are great for water or liquid environments because they can so easily wipe clean while protecting and prolong the life of the id card.
Badge Reels - We’ve talked extensively about the advantages of Badge reels before, but we still love talking about these guys. They’re just so darn useful!
Cardbook Card Holders - Our clients tell us that these fully customizable cardbooks are “..a cool way to package important information!” And, we agree. These are a great way to offer gift cards, id cards and promotional materials for new employees, new students, insurance cards, hospital patients, and benefit roll out. They can help deliver additional information and act as a reference guide.
Lanyards - Easily, the most famous, or infamous of the id card displaying methods. The lanyard has been around in many forms and some estimates date it all the way back to the 15th century! What can we say, it’s an extremely useful and practical way to display your id card. It also represents a badge of honor for some who attend hundreds of conferences a year. Instead of getting new ones for each event, encourage attendees to reuse them, or take advantage of earth-friendly versions.
Luggage Tag - Ok, this is a bit of a stretch, but when you think about it, it’s often used a way to easily identify your luggage when you have the same bag as another traveler or some unsavory airline has lost your bag. You could easily throw your id card or name tag in the luggage tag to help easily identify your bag as yours! Oh yea, you can also attach a luggage tag to your lanyard or badge reel, so it counts.
The Slot Punch - We most often see this as an afterthought method to attaching your id card to your lanyard or badge reel, but it’s still very effective because it can be used over and over and over and over and over again. It can also be used to punch holes in strategic places on the id cards after you’ve printed them and don’t know how the end user will be displaying the id card. This is a method often adopted by colleges and universities. Staff allow the students to choose how they’ll use and display the id card, therefore just using the slot punch to make it easier for them to attach it to an badge clip, lanyard or badge reel. Or even just put it in a badge holder.
Wrist Wear - Yes, this method is often overlooked and is not as popular as many of the other ways described above, but it’s still very effective at attaching and displaying id cards. It can be used in environments where helmets are worn or something is preventing lanyards or badge reels from being utilized. It’s also highly effective at keeping important access cards at only a hands reach away. These can also be custom printed and used for keys. Which is a popular way to carry, use and effectively share a single set of keys or access card.
