Child of Mine
Dear Child of Mine,
The day’s work is nowhere near done
Your chore list is incomplete
Your bed unmade
But yet you are breathless, empty, and feeling less than none
Why, child of mine, do you scream?
And let the blood thicken
Waiting for an end
But without a start
Why do you prison your mind
Locking away vulnerability
And pouring gas over your senses
Lighting a match and now you’re blind
You’re running around with your tail between your legs
Completely bewildered
Strangulated
Head on fire
But you say you’re fine?
Oh child of mine!
Say it ain’t so
Loosen your self-made noose
Give yourself a break
And unwind
Let yourself cry, child of mine
Paint with watercolors to dry
To see the outcomes of life
But at your own pace
And with time
Use every color
Red, black, yellow and even blue
Through this, you’ll see new beginnings
A new understanding
Just because you looked at the hues
Oh child of mine
You have a start and an end
But today, you will just begin
Don’t worry about those dirty sheets
Nor the left dishes
Just worry about your journey through bittersweet
