Have a massive breakdown of Mateo’s Dream Keeper design cause it really hones down that even though this is his dream and he could have everything he wanted. It’s all a lie and his thoughts and dreams are being controlled by the Happy App.
Right off the bat Mateo’s design straight up has the Bright Bureau logo. Which was shown to us in Episode 1 with Mateo’s uniform

And Mateo would rather be caught dead than wear something that even RESEMBLES Dream Smasher. Especially since he hated being a Dream Consultant more than anything. (Probably hated the Uniform too tbh. Considering none of his friends wore uniforms and just chose whatever was unique to them.)
Other than that it also appears that the Happy App really isn’t familiar with how Dream Keepers are supposed to look like. Given the fact that Mateo looks plain compared to the other Dream Keepers.
Sure Mateo does dress in the most basic fashion designs (which I love about him, shows the contrast between the mind of an artist and the actual fashion choices they make) but there are key details and elements in how a Dream Keeper looks that are missing from Mateo here.
All the past Dream Keepers we’ve seen so far have halos behind them. (I think they’re halos?) Which is notably absent from Mateo’s design. Which shows that he’s not really a Dream Keeper. It’s just the Happy App giving him what he wants.
Mateo’s design lacks unique characteristics pertaining to him. Like again as seen in his design. It almost resembles the Bright Bureau Uniform.
Now White and Gold are no stranger to Mateo’s clothes. Especially his Season 1 design (Though I think that’s more of bronze…?) but it lacks other things that make Mateo…Mateo. Such as Green, blue or grey. (And a little bit of red) Meanwhile Dream Keepers like Lunia though inspired by their predecessors have a unique feel to them.
Lunia’s design feels inspired by Andromeda but with her own uniqueness to it. Especially with her staff being mentioned as being inspired by her.
Compare these two designs to Shin.
The Dream Keeper crazy enough to add a Laser Canon to Castle Nocturnia. (And also indoor plumbing for some reason)
Of course, someone who had the idea to build more defenses unto Castle Nocturnia would have a design befitting that characteristic. Armor, a muscular build and a spear, of course Dream Keeper Shin who was prepared for battle for Castle Nocturnia has this type of this design.
Which shows that Dream Keepers, though often looking majestic and ethereal usually stick to a design that is more suited to them and their Dream Keeper role.
Mateo’s design doesn’t have those unique characteristics about him. It’s White and Gold and sure the pattern looks like it could resemble Dream Sand but it doesn’t speak as if Mateo would actually wear this type of design.
It just really hones down that the Dream Keeper design Mateo has is literally not only a fake but a symbolism on how the Happy App got to him. How it still has control over him despite it giving him what he wants.
Which is honestly messed up but I’m glad the Designers designed him this way.
