The rest of the afternoon passed in a strange sort of suspended quiet. Jack disappeared back to the workshop immediately after lunch, and, after a brief tour of the rest of the cabin—besides the living area, kitchen, and mudroom, there was a bathroom and two bedrooms, one of which Robby had identified as his and Jack’s room—Robby left Dennis mostly to himself, checking in once to see if he wanted the TV on before leaving to do whatever it was hunters did in their spare time. Dennis didn’t ask.
Instead, he spent most of that time curled up on one end of the couch, watching the rain start up again and trying not to think too hard about anything at all.
He wasn’t sure how long he sat there, but eventually the damp gray of the afternoon faded into the hazy blue of early evening. Dinner was leftover stew, reheated on the stove without much ceremony. Jack didn’t come in until it was already on the table, ate in silence, and was back out the door before either Robby or Dennis had even finished eating.
Dennis stared down at his own half-eaten bowl, spoon scraping the bottom, no longer hungry.
By the time Robby walked him back to the spare room, Dennis could feel the exhaustion of the last several days catching up to him. Hitchhiking, hustling for money or food, catnapping at truck stops with one eye open—he’d been running on pure adrenaline since he hit the Pennsylvania state line.
His clothes had long since finished drying by that point, and he was used to sleeping in his jeans, but when he tried to give Jack’s things back to Robby, Robby just waved him off.
“Keep that stuff to sleep in if you want,” he said. “Jack won’t miss them.”
Dennis looked down at the shirt and sweatpants hanging off his frame and felt that same surge of something hot and shameful in his gut at the thought of actually sleeping in Jack’s clothes.
Shoving those feelings back into the dark where they belonged, Dennis glanced around the room that would be his for the night. It looked like a typical cabin bedroom, small and cozy. There was a bed in one corner with an iron frame and another of the sigil-stitched quilts like Dennis had seen on the sofa. Dennis’s backpack was already on the bed, unzipped. He glanced at Robby.
“Had to make sure you weren’t coming in here armed,” Robby said with a shrug.
That made sense, Dennis thought, even if the violation of it made the skin between his shoulders itch. Not that there was much snooping to be done; the only things he had to his name outside the clothes on his back were his mother’s journal and the pocketknife she’d given him for his sixteenth birthday—a knife he now watched Robby take out of his pocket, twirling it in his hand.
“I’m going to give this back to you,” he said, holding the knife up. “With the caveat that if you use it on me, Jack will shoot you. Understand?”
Swallowing, Dennis nodded, and Robby tossed the pocketknife to him. For a moment, Dennis did imagine what would happen if he used it—how far he would get before Jack found out what had happened, how quickly he would find Dennis after—but felt guilty almost immediately. Sarah had given him the knife for protection, yes, but Robby had been kind to him so far. Kinder than he should have been, all things considered, and far kinder than Dennis was used to.
“There are extra blankets in the chest at the end of the bed if you get cold,” Robby continued, nodding toward it, the words casual, as though they hadn’t followed a direct threat on Dennis’s life. “The window sticks a little, but it opens if you want air. I’d crack it—gets stuffy in here otherwise.”
“Okay.” Dennis hovered near the bed, unsure of what to do with himself. He gripped the pocketknife in his hand, turning it over in his palm in a self-soothing gesture he’d picked up over the years.
Robby lingered in the doorway for a moment, and for the first time since Dennis had arrived, some of the easy confidence that Robby had carried for most of the day seemed to drain from him, leaving him looking almost lost. Like he was trying to work out if he wanted to say something or leave it alone.
“For what it’s worth,” he finally said, leaning against the doorjamb. “I know today probably wasn’t…” He trailed off, shaking his head as he let out a breath. “I know you probably imagined it going differently, finally meeting your dad.”
Dennis huffed something that wasn’t quite a laugh. “It’s fine,” he said. It was his fault, really, for building up Jack as some mythic figure in his mind. The disappointment that Jack was just a man—human, emotionally stunted—was on him.
“It’s not,” Robby said, gently enough that it didn’t feel like an argument. “But it’s the best we can do tonight. We’ll figure out the rest tomorrow.”
He pushed himself away from the door frame, but then paused, looking back at Dennis with an expression he couldn’t quite discern.
“He’s not a bad man,” Robby said, and Dennis had to fight not to scoff. “He’s got thick armor, but underneath that, he’s…”
“Soft and gooey?” Dennis couldn’t help the sarcasm. Robby gave him a reproachful look, and the expression was so—so fatherly that it made Dennis’s breath catch. It felt like Robby was disappointed in him, and for some reason, that made Dennis’s gut twist anxiously.
“Worth it,” Robby said, with the conviction of a man who believed absolutely in what he was saying. “Trust me—took me a while to see it myself. You’re not going to get there in an afternoon.”
Dennis didn’t know what to do with that, so he just nodded, his throat suddenly tight.
Robby seemed to take the nod for what it was. He patted the doorjamb once, and then pushed away from it for good.
“Holler if you need anything,” he said, stepping back into the hallway. “There are extra towels in the hall closet if you want to take a shower. Takes it a minute to warm up—old pipes—but don’t let it fool you into thinking it’s broken.”
“Okay,” Dennis managed around the lump in his throat. “Thank you,” he added after a moment. “For, um. You know. Everything.”
Robby gave him a small, almost sad smile. A smile that for the first time since Dennis had met the man wasn’t trying to be anything other than it was: an apology, an acknowledgement, avoiding promises of the future because there was no guarantee that Dennis would still be here this time tomorrow. Dennis appreciated the honesty in it if nothing else.
With a nod, Robby left, pulling the door closed behind him—only he left it cracked a couple of inches, perhaps out of some instinct that Dennis didn’t want to examine too closely.
For the first time since he had arrived at the cabin, Dennis was well and truly alone. He could hear Robby moving around in the kitchen, and if he looked out the single window of his temporary room, he could see the light on in the workshop still, Jack’s silhouette dark against the fluorescent glow.
With a sigh, Dennis sat down on the bed and reached for his opened backpack. He slipped his knife back into its regular pocket first, and then grabbed his mother’s journal, left undisturbed at the bottom of the bag beneath his worn-out thrift store coat and extra pairs of socks and underwear.
At least Robby had afforded him some privacy, he thought, as he removed the journal.
The worn cover was familiar beneath his fingertips, the pages yellowed and warped with two decades of handling, spilled drinks, rain, cigarette ash. The spine was cracked in such a way that the book fell open automatically on his lap to the entry where his mother had described meeting Jack for the first time. He’d read those words so many times that he could recite them by heart now, the scene playing out in his head like a movie: Sarah being stalked through the cornfields of her family’s farm by some unnamed, unnatural thing. Running into Jack, brash and handsome and too flirty for his own good.
Now, with his newfound knowledge of why Jack had ended up in Broken Bow, alone, Dennis couldn’t help but wonder if the scene so lovingly written out by his mother in her journal had actually happened as penned, or if there had been some…embellishment on her part.
To a young, inexperienced girl from rural Nebraska, Jack might very well have seemed flirty, and surely the possibility of him being gay or bi or whatever he was wouldn’t have crossed Sarah’s mind at the time, but now Dennis wasn’t sure how much of what she had described between herself and Jack had been real, and how much of it had been wishful thinking by a young girl with an—admittedly understandable—crush on the man who had saved her life?
Dennis didn’t know Jack, but he knew his mother. He was sure Sarah wouldn’t have done anything with Jack if she had known he had a partner.
“I think you would have liked Robby,” he muttered to himself, fingertips brushing the brittle pages. “He seems kind. Jack…” Dennis paused and let out a slow breath. “I don’t think he’s the man you met back then. I don’t know if he ever was.”
He traced his mother’s handwriting for a moment, waiting for… he wasn’t sure what. Some sign that she was still with him, maybe. But there was nothing, no sound except for the soft patter of rain on the metal roof, and Robby milling around in the kitchen.
With a sigh, Dennis returned the journal to his backpack, and then stood in a sudden bout of restlessness. He was tired, yes, but almost too tired to sleep, afraid that the moment his head hit the pillow he would be wide awake. He’d always been a light sleeper, especially in unfamiliar places.
He took a turn around the room, cataloguing the details he’d only half-noted when he first walked in. The worn rug underfoot. The quilt with its sewn protections. An unbroken line of salt on the windowsill. There was nothing in the chest at the foot of the bed but extra blankets, just like Robby had said. It was a perfectly ordinary room, but the lack of any homey touches like the rest of the cabin, and the warning from Robby, made it feel more like a prison cell.
Wandering back to the window, Dennis leaned against it, careful not to disturb the salt as he stared out at the workshop in the distance, Jack still working on whatever he was doing to avoid coming back into the house. He wasn’t sure how long he stood there, but eventually the light in the workshop went out, plunging the yard into darkness. He blinked, waiting for his eyes to adjust, and after a moment he could see Jack leaving the workshop, pulling down the garage door and locking everything up for the night. He trekked across the muddy ground with the same uneven gait as before, making Dennis wonder idly if Jack had been injured at some point in the past.
The thought disturbed him, and he realized it was because he had built up Jack so much in his mind that the idea of something hurting him—of a hunt going bad, or even a mundane accident—seemed almost unnatural. He was supposed to be invincible, but of course he wasn’t. Nobody was.
A few yards from the house, Jack stopped. Dennis held his breath, waiting, watching as Jack stared up at the cabin. He wondered what Jack was thinking about. It was too dark to make out the expression on Jack’s face, but then he turned his head, looking directly at the window where Dennis was standing.
Gasping, Dennis stepped aside, flattening himself against the wall. Had Jack seen him? Of course he saw you, he told himself, don’t be stupid. He could feel himself flush with embarrassment at the idea of Jack catching him staring. Embarrassment, and something far worse, something blooming warm in his gut at the idea of Jack knowing Dennis was watching him.
Slowly, he crept back to the window, fingers curling around the frame as he peeked outside. Jack was still standing there, but to Dennis’s relief he wasn’t looking towards the window anymore. Still, he stayed hidden, watching until the tense line of Jack’s shoulders finally relaxed and he made his way into the house.
Dennis heard the door open, heard Jack and Robby’s muffled voices through the wall, and then the sound of their heavy footsteps as they retreated to their bedroom, just across the hall.
Knowing that he, too, needed to rest, especially if Jack and Robby were going to send him on his way in the morning, Dennis settled back on the bed, his fingers brushing the embroidered sigils of the quilt before crawling underneath it. He closed his eyes, feeling the exhaustion of the past few weeks—the past few months, really—pulling him under, and for a blissful moment, he felt himself drift off—
—only to jolt awake a few seconds later as the cabin settled.
Opening his eyes, Dennis let out a breath. It was going to be a long night.
It's not healthy, they all know it. But it feels so good. Feeling two other men pressed against them. Kissing desperately in supply closets at work. Pressing someone down onto a bed at the end of the day. Each having their own reasons they shouldn't do this, and each one continuing anyway.
Robby is Dennis's boss, the power imbalance alone is disgraceful. Enough that if anyone caught them together he'd be fired on the spot. He's also older, not even just by a few years. 28 years apart, old enough to be Dennis's dad. Jack is his best friend, has been since med school. Robby's seen Jack at his darkest, his most empty and bare. At the funeral of his wife, getting jack ready himself. The guilt lingers sometimes as he asks himself if Lillian would forgive him for stealing her husband. Even after death, because jack will always be her husband.
Dennis knows sleeping with his bosses is wrong on so many levels. Especially sleeping with his bosses when they have so many issues. Robby can barely make it through a shift without breaking down now. Using the younger man as a crutch just to make it through the shift. Giving Dennis an upper hand in a way, Robby would bend over backwards to make sure dennis stays. To make sure the man won't leave him. Jack comes with a unique set of problems. The attending was practically riddled with ptsd and trauma. He can't sleep alone anymore, more often than not calling while Dennis was on shift just so he could fall asleep with someone else's presence. Never Robby just Dennis. It would almost be flattering if Jack didn't use it as an excuse to ignore the boy the next day. Blocking the resident when he wakes up, and it staying that way until robby talked sense back into the man.
Jack is usually the confident one, the one who talks down the others from doing something rash. He's especially good at it when it comes to Dennis, maybe it because his boy and Lillian are so alike. The same crooked smile and raspy laugh. Same sense of humour, dry quips and strange comments to anyone but them. Jack knows he shouldn't compare the two, his therapist tells him it's keeping him in the grief. Knowing and doing however are two entirely different things. Robby is Jacks rock, has been for years. Dana calls the codependent, Jack calls them close friends. Taking pride in being the one to convince robby to stay with him instead of heading on his death quest. It's not like he had much of a choice but to stay anyway, not when Jack slashed the tyres on his bike. Snapping off the exhaust pipe and unscrewing bolts on the engine so the vehicle wouldn't start. Jack can't live without Robby and he's not going to, not anytime soon.
To Bush, Or Not To Bush. That Is the Question- Trans! Dennis Whitaker
(A/N): I keep seeing these posts and comments about bushes specifically Robby’s reaction to Dennis’s bush (wilderness) and what would happen if Dennis decided to shave it. So I humbly offer you this one-shot.
Thinking about trans Dennis who hasn’t shaved since starting his transition.
His mother had always insisted that women were supposed to be hairless, that men preferred their wives to not have body hair. She swore that women having body hair was simply unhygienic— which now, as a medical professional, he knows isn’t true— so the second Dennis started going through puberty, his mother handed him a razor and a bar of soap and told him to keep himself proper. Dennis had scowled but endured it even though he’d get terrible razor bumps and ingrown hairs.
He hated it then and he still hates it now.
Truthfully, he hadn’t really thought about it since leaving Nebraska, a few months before he actually started his transition. The few partners he had prior to med school (all one night stands) hadn’t been that put off by body hair, so Dennis figured that shaving was purely for cosmetic purposes, and that his mother’s bullshit agenda was just that; an agenda, propaganda to scare him as a child.
It never really clicked to him that, like his mother insisted, some people might actually prefer their partners to be groomed.
When he started Dating Michael Robinavitch, who tells Dennis that he’s a MUNCH (Dennis had never heard that term before and had turned an embarrassing shade of fire truck red when it had been explained to him), and gets his first taste of heaven in the form of Robby’s tongue parting through his folds, lapping at his cunt and wrapping his lips around Dennis’s dick, the idea of shaving goes straight out of the window as he cums so hard the first time, that he pulls on poor Robby’s hair so violently that the older man yelps.
Robby has never complained about his pubic hair. He’s a hairy guy himself, which Dennis adores, so obviously Dennis doesn’t consider the possibility that his boyfriend may not like how bushy he is.
Until, during one very odd shift, he meets a drunken patient who comes in with his (equally as drunk) pals. Talking shit about women’s bodies like they are objects and not people.
“I’m telling you, man!” Dennis overhears one of them say, “some bush is okay, but, like, at least trim the hedges, you know? Went down on her and found a pube in my mouth, total fucking turn off.”
Dennis stills instantly, listening into the conversation as a round of agreement and laughter spills behind the cracked door.
“I prefer ‘em bald.” The patient says, “especially if I’m eating her out.”
Dennis’s brow furrows as the third one adds a comment. “God forbid she has ass hair! I mean, Jesus! You remember Allison? From Chem?”
There’s another round of laughter and shame forms a pit in Dennis’s stomach as the revelation hits. Would Robby prefer him to be hairless? Dennis is on testosterone, his whole lower body is covered in blonde hairs. Does he find it disgusting?
There’s a flare of panic, and suddenly thoughts are running through his mind as he compares his hairy body to the likes of these hairless women that the drunk guys are discussing.
He is quieter for the rest of shift. Quiet enough that Trinity notices almost immediately.
“Okay, what’s up with you?” She asks when they’re chatting. “You’ve got that sad mouse look.”
“I do not have a ‘sad mouse’ look!”
“Do too.” He bites the inside of his lip, head tucking slightly. She instantly goes from slightly joking to straight up concerned. “Dennis? Seriously? What’s wrong?”
“I—“ how does he even go about explaining this, “do you shave?”
She blinks at him. “What?”
“You know— like… down there?”
“I hardly believe that’s your business.” She folds her arms across her chest.
“It’s not— argh— I’ve just been thinking about shaving again, it’s getting to be… too much?”
Trinity raises a skeptical brow. “Uh-huh. Any specific reason why? Are you doing this for yourself? Or for someone else?”
“Myself.” He lies meekly. “I just- it’s been a while, and I get really bad razor bumps, so—“
“Have you ever thought about waxing?” She interrupts.
“Waxing?”
Trinity shrugs. “Yeah? I go to this place called the Wax Bar, the one that’s a few blocks from our apartment, and they’re pretty good.”
“Doesn’t it hurt though?”
“Only for like thirty minutes, then it’s smooth sailing. Figurative and literally.” She grins at him, “I’m going there tomorrow if you want to come?”
He contemplates it for a moment. Then he recalls the men’s conversation from earlier, immediately followed by the made up image of Robby’s face curled in disgust, and agrees. “yeah, alright. Let’s do it.”
Let it be known that Trinity Santos is a complete liar.
Dennis figures that out pretty quickly when the first strip of wax has him yelling expletives that would have his mama washing his mouth out with soap if she’d heard him.
By the end of the session with the very lovely older Russian woman named Lana —who Dennis almost decked at several points, but that’s not relevant— his crotch is red hot and sticking uncomfortably to his boxers.
“You’re walking like you’ve just gotten off of a horse.” She snorts when he glares at her.
“What happened to ‘it doesn’t hurt that bad’?” He hisses.
“Oh quit it. You’re such a baby!”
“This can’t be normal.” He groans, “it feels like fire.”
“It’ll calm down,” she laughs as they get into the car to go home. (Well, Trinity gets into the car, Dennis moves so gingerly that trinity rolls her eyes.)
She’s right. It does calm down. But it took baby oil, and some frozen peas for it to finally stop pulsing.
“How’s it feeling, Huck?” Trinity enters the bathroom without warning while he’s inspecting himself in the mirror. He wraps his towel back around himself, barely managing to conceal himself before she barges in.
“Jesus!” He shouts.
She whistles, clearly catching sight of his naked form just as he covers himself. “Looking smoother than a baby seal!”
“Is the concept of privacy nonexistent for you?”
“Basically.” She shrugs, continuing into the bathroom. “Hope you aren’t planning on seducing our boss tonight, you’re supposed to wait at least 24 hours before having sex after getting a fresh wax.”
He sputters, cheeks going red. “I am not—! We aren’t—! Ugh, you’re impossible!”
He storms out while she cackles.
Dennis does, in fact, not go over Robby’s that night. He wants to, desperately, he wants to, but he refrains. Even when Robby shoots him a text, asking if he’s coming around tonight, he declines. (It’s a hardship on both their parts, but Dennis promises that he’ll come over tomorrow with a surprise, which Robby seems very enthusiastic about.)
He spends the whole night tossing and turning with slight anxiety, then following morning he is hyping himself up in his full length mirror while trying to figure out what to wear.
He settles for the crotchless panties he’d bought himself years ago that he’d never worn, but thought they were too pretty to throw away. It had been hiding in the back of his closet, and Dennis is surprised that they still fit.
The fabric is light blue, satin, with lace on the trim, and a cute bow that sits on the top of his ass. He didn’t dress like this. Ever. But, even he has to admit that it is quite a sight.
“Robby’s going to love it!” He whispers reassurances to himself the whole bus ride to his boyfriend’s townhouse as he fiddles with the hem of his (Robby’s) worn out t-shirt.
He’s feeling very brave when he gets to Robby’s doorstep. Unfortunately, the bravery starts to wane when Robby opens the door and smiles at him.
Dennis doesn’t think he’ll ever get enough of seeing the way Robby’s eyes light up when Dennis is in his presence. The way his crows feet become more pronounced, the summertime warmth of his brown irises… he’s so beautiful it’s physically painful to look at him sometimes.
“Hi, Sweetheart.” Dennis blushes at the moniker. Robby’s hand shoots out to grab the younger man by the shirt and pulls him into his arms as he shuts the door behind them.
Dennis grins, standing on his tiptoes to kiss Robby on the lips. “Missed you.”
“Yeah?” Robby chuckles, rubbing the tip of his nose with Dennis’s. “You should’ve come over last night then.”
“I couldn’t.” Robby pulls away, giving Dennis a questioning glance.
“Is this about my surprise?” He asks cheekily.
Dennis’s heart speeds up a bit. He tries to smother the anxiety with false confidence. Fake it til you make it, or however the saying goes.
He nods shyly. Then without warning he toes off his sneakers, and undoes his belt. Robby grabs his hands, joking, “Christ, give a man some warning before you go stripping in my foyer!”
“It’s necessary for your… surprise.”
Robby cocks his head to the side, then his eyes widen comically. “Den, please tell me you got my name tattooed on your ass.”
“What?” He asked bewildered. “No! Why the fuck would I get your name tattooed on my ass? And why the hell are you so damn excited about that?”
He shrugs. “I’m possessive.”
No shit.
“Alright, if it isn’t my name tattooed on your body —which I encourage, by the way—“
“Freak.” Dennis mutters midway through his sentence earning a smack on his butt.
“Then what is it?”
Dennis rolls his eyes and pulls his pants down, stepping out of them entirely to show off his panties and hairless pussy to his boyfriend. Dennis tries to look more enticing than he feels, especially under Robby’s watchful eyes.
He could see in real time the immediate reaction Robby has the second he spots Dennis’s bare cunt because the man, honest-to-god, drops to his knees and glares at Dennis’s body like it has personally offended him.
The silence is deafening, Robby’s hands are on Dennis’s hips, unmoving. Dennis begins to squirm under his critique.
Fingers drift from his left hip to the bands of the underwear that sits on either side of his pussy. “What- what did you do?”
Shame and insecurity pull at Dennis’s navel. Like a skittish animal, he goes to retreat. To put his pants back on, to tell Robby to forget this ever happened, but Robby locks an arm around the back of his knees, keeping him in place.
“I—“ Dennis gulped nervously. “I got waxed.”
Robby pets the smooth skin, “no, I see that. But… why?”
“I thought you’d like it.” He bites his lower lip, “do you not like it?”
He’s silent once again and Dennis really wants to bolt now, the embarrassment too much for him to handle.
“My poor baby,” Robby whines from below, voice breaking as though it was genuinely an emotional moment. “He’s so cold.”
“He? Wha—? Oh!” Dennis lets out a noise of surprise when Robby starts placing kisses against his inner thighs, one hand slipping the pretty panties off of his body.
“These are really nice, Sweetheart. I don’t want you to ruin them.” Robby mutters into his skin. Then he presses his nose and mouth onto the younger man’s cunt, inhaling deeply and frowning.
“Not going to lie, you’re giving me really mixed signals right now.” Dennis admits. Robby doesn’t spare him a glance, too focused on mapping out the bare pussy in front of him.
“He’s so naked. Doesn’t smell like you.” The attending pouts. “You butchered my boy, my sweet baby.”
Dennis rolls his eyes at Robby’s ridiculous performance. “Why the hell did you do this?”
“I…” Dennis’s nerves flare again, uncertain how to answer. “I heard some guys talking about hair down there and that men don’t really like that.”
Robby looks at him like he’s lost his mind as he keeps rambling. “And I just thought, we haven’t really discussed body hair, and you going down on me must be kinda gross because I am- was- so hairy. I figured maybe I ought to do a little… maintenance.”
“Have I ever given you any indication that I dislike your bush?” Robby asks genuinely.
“Well, no, but—“
“I’m a grown man.” Robby states. “I can handle a jungle.”
“Yeah, but those guys—“ he tries to argue.
“Are fucking babies if they don’t eat cunt just cause they’re scared of a little pubic hair.” Robby licks at Dennis’s cock, still somewhat sensitive from the waxing despite how long it’s been since he got it done. “This is nice, don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the sentiment, but I want you au natural. Don’t ever do this to my poor baby again.”
Robby smothers himself in Dennis’s pussy, eating him out right there against the doorframe. Making him whine, purr, beg, shout, cum all over his beard and lips til he’s dripping on the floor tiles below.
When Robby stands with a groan, knees cracking, he takes a flushed and dazed Dennis by the hands and smiles down at him lovingly.
“If you ever shave or wax my poor pussy again, I swear to god I will shave my beard. Then we’ll both be sad.” He punctuated the threat with a kiss and a pat to Dennis’s head. “Move it, Whitaker, I gotta keep him warm.”
Dennis stumbles stupidly down the hall, following his boyfriend to the bedroom with only one thought. He cannot go hairless again. As much as he loves Robby, Dennis is entirely sure that he will actually cry if he shaves his beard.
When he catches up with Robby, both void of all clothing, Robby looks down at Dennis’s pussy and sighs. “Next time, just get the fucking tattoo.”
Some when in his 30s, Dennis order a set of custom made rings for Jack, Robby, and himself on their anniversary, even though they’re not married, nor do they ever intend to. Robby and him refused to take that occupied place in Jack’s heart.
They wore it on their fingers or around their neck. Jack certainly kept the silver band alongside his wife’s black one and the dog tags.
The rings have their initials on the outside.
Three different phrases are carved on the inside of each rings, directly opposite of the letters.
In this life.
And the next.
And after next.
No eyes were spared from tears when he presented the gift. Both men gave him kisses and breathed him in and embraced each other like it would have been the last time they could do it.
Whenever the realities between their ages hits, it would be a good reminder for them to hold on to one another in the now. And whatever fate has in store, they know they’d want to face it together.
Dennis, Jack, AND Robby are all carrying massive hogs on them
Jack’s is uncut fat and big, Dennis is also uncut big but it’s the smallest thinnest of the three, and Robby is cut (this should go without saying,,,) and is the goldilocks of them, not too big and thick, but enough that it’s like heaven
they lowkey bully dennis about it because the only time he uses it is to sub-top Robby
hucklerabbot but none of it is established yet and robby gets really badly hurt (probably a code hula hoop) and jack and dennis have a huge argument about his treatment and care plan in the trauma bay with everyone else looking because they're both protective over michael and jack pulls the "he wouldn't want his resident to see him like this" card when he loses his cool for a hot minute and dennis just deflates
Big fan of Robby and Jack fully funding Dennis’ life. When they first got together, Dennis was a bit reluctant to let them spend money on him at all but it did not take much time before Dennis was pocketing one of their cards to keep on his person.
One time, Dennis had given Jack back his card bc he needed that specific card for something and had forgotten to hand it back to him. Dennis had been out to eat with Trinity and was going to pay but remembered the lack of his boyfriend’s card and had slid his own card into the reader with a pout. He sent a picture to the two of them of his receipt with the message had to fend for myself today :( attached. He immediately got a Venmo from Jack covering the entire meal and a text that said I’ll get you set up with Apple Pay when you get home, sorry about today babe.
Trinity started laughing at him and called him their sugar baby, but Dennis just rolled his eyes bc even she was reaping the benefits of their salary’s. It was only last week that she tagged alongside Dennis and Robby to dinner and drinks and there wasn’t even a question on whose tab Trinity’s food was going on. After a few cocktails the two had begged Robby to let them have a sleepover, the older man just laughing at the show they were putting on for him (“dude, I promise if we do a little choreography for him he’ll say yes no issue.”) as he pushed them into the car. He drove them to the convenience store by the house and let them have free rein over the isles, just pushing the cart and clicking his tongue at the sweets they kept piling in. They got to the checkout counter, Dennis and Trinity leaning on each other for support as the lady scanned each item and asked Robby cash or card? Before he could pull his credit card out of his pocket, Trinity slid over a pack of gum from the rack and told him “wait, I’ll definitely need this for tomorrow,” Robby just nodding along and handing over the pack to the lady with a smile.
Just a boy and his girl getting rightfully taken care of 🩷

Jack wasn't stupid. Dennis wasn't slick. Robby knew something was going on but wanted it to play out without disruption.
Dennis had been sneaking into the bedroom laundry basket, into Jack's gym bag and both his boyfriends' work bags. His secret treasure? Boxers, undershirts, gym clothes, jackets- anything that smelt remotely like the musky odor of sweat. Of hard work, of long shifts, of Robby's body hair and of Jack's rigorous exercise regime. Jack knew this- despite what people say, his prosthesis doesn't announce his appearance unless he wants it to- from sneakily observing a hiding Dennis, who was pressing one of Jack's old gym shirts into his face and huffing it like the last molecule of oxygen on Earth.
Needless to say, Jack was thrilled.
A fortunate idea came to Jack when leaving the gym to go to a SWAT call before his upcoming 12 hour shift that night. No matter how deeply uncomfortable he felt sitting in his own sweat for over 24 hours, Jack loved Dennis more. The shirt and boxers he wore that day had to be painstakingly peeled off his body, and following the most vigorous cleansing shower Jack had ever taken, he was pleased to find the two clothing items mysteriously missing from where he had dropped them.
Jack was also aware of Robby's fondness for wearing long-sleeve undershirts and fleeces, hoodies or zip-ups to work, regardless of weather. For a man who claimed he "ran cold", he sure sweated up a storm. Not to mention the carpeting of body hair he had. Suffice to say, Robby's clothes mysteriously went missing too.
Fortunately, it all came to a head on Jack's night off. It had been a long, arduous shift for Robby and Dennis. A long-suffering, gutteral sigh escaped Robby's lungs as he stripped off his scrubs.
"Fuck me, I need a shower. I stink"
Not one to miss Dennis's sharp intakes of breath and slightly darkened eyes, Jack stood, placing a large hand on Robby's bare chest, and guided him gently to lay on a covinientIy placed towel. Turning on his heel, Jack's eyes met Dennis's confused gaze. A shift in the blue eyes' sightline gave Jack the answer he wanted.
"Pick it up." His voice came out more gravelly than intended.
Dennis bent at the waist, keeping nervous eye contact with Jack as he took Robby's undershirt in hand and returned to standing.
Rounding the younger man, Jack grumbled, " You'd rather get your rocks off on fabric? Or the real deal? Straight from the source baby, take your fill." A large hand took its familiar place on the back of Dennis's head, fisting into the curls, and walking him to a gleefully watching Robby. Jack dog-walks Dennis up the bed, as the two dayshift workers maintained heated eye contact. Jack settles himself beside Robby, and Dennis's head at Robby's neck.
"Go nuts pup."
The young man's nose firmly lodges itself in Robby's neck, slathering a long stripe of saliva up his throat, as he pulls one of the man's hairy arms above their heads. A trail of deep-heaving huffs and wet kisses tracks the skin down to the garden of eden, Robby's armpit. Following his course down the chest hair, snail trail and to Robby's furry crotch, Dennis' deep breaths are accompanied by Robby's breathless gasps and Jack's reverent moans as he palms himself through his boxers at the wonderous sight. The sound of Dennis's tongue delving through sweaty hair and around Robby's dick makes Jack's patient waiting so worth it. Robby's orgasm shocks no one, with Dennis's enthusiastic breaths and licks speeding, chasing his own release and ecstatically recieving the deep scent and taste of Robby's cum. Jack follows soon after Dennis, with a cry bitten off by Robby's lips on his.
"So kid, we smell good enough for ya', or do we have to store our sweat in jars?"

Please forgive me for my writing, this is my first time writing anything close to smut! I hope it's decent, and I'm open to advice or constructive criticism!!
Sugar baby Dennis who gets told he can use Jack and Robby's card on whatever he wants. But they tell him not to just buy sexy undies or sex toys, but to buy things he needs, Scrubs, books, tickets to movies the older men don't wanna see.
So Dennis pays for his and Trinity's passes to a music festival. And their slumber party supplies.
And then when Jack and Robby say he needs to find a good hobby, something to do outside of work, outside their house, something to make him happy, well... That's how Dennis and Trinity ended up taking dance classes. Just beginner things that worked around their schedule, just to have fun, to exercise, to laugh and have fun with lots of people their age.
Plus Robby and Jack like seeing how toned Dennis gets. All sweaty and hot in his little outfits, smiling, talking endlessly about his new friends.
1.) He discovered this one early into their relationship, when the sex came easier than the actual emotions of it all. When Jack would grip Dennis's hips with his massive hands and dig his thumbs into the divot of Dennis's hips where the nerves there made him tremble. Dennis tried to grip anything else- the pillows, the sheets, his own hair, before one particular down stoke and Jack's thing with his tongue made Dennis's back bow off the bed.
His hands flew down before he could control it, tangling in his silver curls and tugging. Even if he hadn't heard the moan that Jack let out, the vibrations of it down his shaft made Dennis squirm as he gasped out his name.
Jack only came up for air once Dennis had came down his throat, shaking apart in his grip. A faint flicker of curiosity crossed Dennis's brain as he tugged on the curls covering the crown of his head. Jack groaned, his eyelids drooping for a second as the feeling rocked through him before his eyes darted up to Dennis's and he let out a huff of air. He continued his crawl up to bracket Dennis with his arms, craning his neck down.
"Jesus kid, warn a guy." He croaked, pressing a kiss to Dennis's lips.
"Are- are you blushing? Do you like when I do that?" Dennis asked when they parted, still a little breathless and now a little coy at his discovery. It was clear now- a blush colored the man's tan, freckled cheeks.
"Den-nis-" Jack started, only to groan out the second syllable as Dennis tugged again. Dennis grinned and leaned up to kiss him.
"That's hot."
"It's childish, is what it is. 50 years old and I still like getting my hair pulled like I'm a teenager." Jack grumbled into Dennis's neck, trying to kiss down Dennis's neck in a way he knew would distract him, the bastard.
"No it's not, it's hot. Stupid hot. I like making you a little crazy, you do it to me all the time." Dennis whined as Jack's teeth worried at the skin by his collarbone. "Hey, you're doing that on purpose-!"
"If you can talk still I'm not doing my job right, honey." Jack mumbled into his skin, kissing down his chest as Dennis huffed out a sigh of exasperation and let it go. He'd tuck it into his back pocket for later.
2.) To say that he was caught off guard by the smell of chocolate and Guinness when he stepped into his home was an understatement.
He felt his breath snag somewhere, maybe on his ribs, maybe on the ragged edges of the hole his wife had left, as he tried not to stumble his way into the kitchen. Seeing Dennis's broad back and curly dark blonde hair as some easy listening played in the background brought an odd mix of heart warming affection and gentle melancholy. Dennis looked over his shoulder and smiled brightly.
"Hey! Sorry, I- hands were full with frosting stuff, I didn't hear you come in!" Dennis gingerly set down the piping bag and walked around the island to give him a peck on the cheek. "I hope it's okay I'm making a mess in here, I just.. um, I found this recipe? And I thought since it was your birthday tomorrow I'd make it?"
From the small box of recipes tucked into the corner on the counter by the kitchenaid that had been collecting dust was a recipe for "Jack's Birthday Cake." Jack took it from Dennis's hold and thumbed the round edge. Seeing Liz's handwriting on that beaten up little index card squeezed Jack's heart just a bit.
"Yeah- yeah, Den, go nuts. Ask Robby, I could probably burn water if I tried to bake something." He mustered up, giving Dennis back the card as he peered at the cake still half-frosted on the counter. "Lord knows this stuff just collects dust otherwise. I got it to be used."
God, when did Dennis get so close to his sore spots?
"I know it's not your birthday yet but- do you want to have some now?"
"It's close enough. Only, what, a couple more hours?"
"17, actually."
"Mm, semantics."
Jack slid onto a stool as Dennis plated a few slices. He could tell Dennis was nervous about his reaction as he cut into the moist looking cake with his fork and brought it to his mouth.
It was just as delicious as he remembered it. Jack savored the bite before swallowing it and clearing his throat a bit of the rich frosting.
"I haven't… it's been a while since I've had this, I'm- thank you, sweetheart." Jack blinked away the concerning prickly burn in his eyes- Jesus should he get checked for something?- as Dennis's smile softened and he gave Jack another longer, gentler kiss.
3.) "I should have known you had ulterior motives." Jack grumbled as he smacked Dennis's wandering hand away, breaking their kiss as Dennis chuckled. "You fuckin' menace."
"Am I not allowed to enjoy my boyfriend's assets?" Dennis asked with a small pout as he wiggled out of his jeans, tossing them in a small pile in the corner of the bathroom.
"I'm getting harassed by my coworker half my age, I should report you to HR."
"I'm your- yeah, you know what, go ahead. Tell them I keep you in the basement too." The sound of the water hitting the tile filled the room with white noise while he unfolded the shower bench.
"Yeah, this kid gropes my ass and keeps a disabled vet in his basement. I get food and water, sunlight on the weekends."
"Who gave you internet access? I took your phone away when you tried to call the cops."
"Santos shows me TikToks when I'm allowed out to go to work." Jack smiled at Dennis's giggle, standing up to hold out an arm for Jack to take. Dennis grunted as Jack pulled himself up and grabbed the bar with his other hand, lowering himself carefully onto the bench. "Don't you ever grunt again when helping me up, you're making me feel fat."
Jack harrumphed as Dennis laughed again, giggling over his grumblings as he settled on the shower floor between Jack's legs. Suds began sluicing over Dennis's shoulders as Jack worked his hands through Dennis's curls, the soft citrus scent steaming the air as Dennis closed his eyes and hummed.
He almost missed it- the way Dennis tilted his head and pressed his lips to the skin of his calf while he was tilting Dennis's head forward to suds up the curls at his nape. He huffed as he felt his cheeks prickle with what he knew was a blush.
"You sap." He murmured, tugging on his curls lightly and making him straighten again.
"Mmm, yeah." Dennis turned himself around and took his calf in his hand, dipping his head to press a firmer kiss to his shin. Jack hated how it made his stomach flip.
"Oh my god, I gotta beat you off with a stick." Jack spluttered, jerking his leg out of Dennis's hold. "What's gotten into you?"
"Just want to kiss my boyfriend, is that illegal?" Dennis pouted up at him. Jack leaned over him to unhook the shower head from the wall and brought it over his hair instead of answering.
4.) Jack never wanted Dennis to feel like he wished he was a woman.
He still liked lingerie, was the problem. He liked when his wife would put on something pretty in whatever color she decided to wear. He kind of missed the feel of his on his hands when he would pet her sides, or the thrill of seeing the strap peak over the waistline of her pants. He liked seeing her shine with that kind of soft confidence of wearing something pretty just for herself.
Dennis had those moments, but it was things like sneakers or a new button up he felt good in. And that was fine. He loved seeing Dennis confident in what he wore.
The incident occurred on his birthday. Dennis had been weird and giggly all morning, rocking on the balls of his feet as Jack finished the breakfast Dennis had made him before saying that he had Jack's gift upstairs. He remembered being a little touched that Dennis made sure to shuffle his feet as he walked behind him, that he expected the hands that went over his eyes and Dennis's voice trying for something sultry as he murmured, "Wanna see your gift?"
It was a joke. It was obviously a joke. The way the cups of the bra gaped from his chest with nothing to fill them, to the glimpse of his dick not even fitting in the tiny lace panties the outfit came with. It all said that Dennis had grabbed it off the rack without a second thought to if it would actually fit.
That didn't make Jack's harsh inhale any less obvious. That didn't stop his eyes roving over the delicate pink lace of the babydoll that fell over his abs and the jut of his hipbones, softened it into something that Jack wanted to sink his teeth into. His eyes darted up to Dennis's face, waiting for the goofy smile or "gotcha!" or any sign that this wasn't what he thought it was.
Dennis's eyes were on his face as Jack wiped his sweaty palms on his sweatpants and shifted slightly.
"Oh- you really like this, huh?" Dennis stepped forward and came to a stop between Jack's legs.
"Dennis-" Jack croaked as the man took his hands and put them around his waist.
"You can touch, you know. It's your gift." He murmured. Jack nodded slowly where his eyes were still locked onto Dennis's abs, sweeping his thumbs over the straps of the panties and swallowing thickly.
"You're gonna kill me, angel."
5.) It was a thing on TikTok that Trinity had sent him with the message, "you should see what Jack does."; a couple walking to the car when the obvious passenger princess hops into the driver's seat while their partner watched incredulously. Usually the person would say something smarmy like "hop in, princess, I've got you." and the rest of the video would be the chaos that ensued. It was funny. Dennis asked why Trinity couldn't do it and she said that Baran locked the car doors until she was right next to the driver's side.
(Most likely due to Trinity's insane driving, but that was something Dennis kept to himself.)
It popped into his head while they were walking back from a dinner date, fingers interlocked as they made their way back to Jack's Santa Fe and climbed inside. It was on impulse that his fingers reached down and plucked the car keys from Jacks' hand and twirled the keychain around his index finger. Jack looked at him, his eyebrow cocked in disbelief.
"And where do you think you're driving with those, Den?"
"I'm driving us home tonight, actually." Dennis replied smoothly. The pedals had been fitted so that Jack could control the gas with his left foot instead of his right, but Dennis wasn't actually planning on driving anyways. Dennis reached over and gripped the meat of his thigh, squeezing it. "I've got it, princess."
If they weren't enclosed in the car and close to him, he probably wouldn't have caught the hitch to his breath as Jack stumbled over his words. "Ha-ha, very funny Den. Gimme the keys."
Dennis stopped and looked at him, his face slowly stretching into a sly grin. Jack's face looked like a fucking tomato, looking doggedly at the keys or at the car's counsel.
"Did you like that, princess?" He purred, watching Jack's face as he scoffed and his ears slowly reddened. "I'll give you the keys if you admit it."
"How about you give me the keys and I don't spank your ass red at home?" Jack answered, over-the-top gruff and huffy. Dennis grinned in triumph as though that had been the only answer he needed before he gave him the keys. Jack took them and turned, pinching Dennis's arm and earning a yelp as Dennis buckled into the passenger side seat.
(Dennis glowered at Trinity when she laughed at how gingerly he sat the next night.)
+1.) Dennis had prepped a lot for this.
Getting the right lighting, twisting and contorting his body this way and that, trying to figure out his phone timer, making sure he didn't look like he was straining his body, remembering to fix his face from concentrated to lustful. How the fuck did girls do this regularly?
It was worth it seeing himself splayed out in beautiful nude glory, chest arched up so you could make out his stiff nipples through the bralette and abs on tasteful display, leading down to his hard cock and legs carefully bent just so. He didn't even wait to change out of the lingerie before sending it to Jack, his heart pounding as he thought about how he'd react when he saw it. He let out a giddy little laugh as he sent it with the text, "Got something new but couldn't wait to show you :( " before throwing his phone somewhere on the bed.
Fuck, just thinking about Jack opening his phone and then clutching it to his chest again. Would he peak at it throughout his shift? have to adjust himself in his scrubs thinking about Dennis waiting for him at home all wanton and needy? he thinks he got a good glimpse of the plug nestled into his hole, maybe he would daydream about coming home and waking him up with his cock in Dennis's hole.
The vibrating pattern of Jack's ringtone made Dennis sit upright, staring at the device as that giddiness rose up in him again. He almost didn't want to look, Jesus Christ.
With bated breath he opened his phone and looked at the text, biting his lip as he read-
A thumbs up.
A thumbs up on his nude.
With a follow up text of "Nice."
"What the fuck?" Dennis blurted out to the empty room, the giddiness fizzling out into cool disappointment. He put on this itchy as fuck lace and posed for a whole half hour just for a fucking "Nice"?! He scoffed and stomped to the bathroom to change back into the college t-shirt and boxers he had on.
("I was flustered, baby, I was, it was the hottest thing I've ever seen! I didn't know how to reply, that's how much you broke my brain, sweetheart!" Jack would later wheedle, borderline whine as Dennis scowled at him and rolled his eyes.
"More than a fucking 'nice' would have been fine." Dennis huffed, rolling on his side to face away from him. A hand on his ankle made him yelp as Jack dragged him bodily across the bed, bracketing him in with his arms.
"Lemme show you how much I loved it, please?" He asked, brow furrowed and body stock still as he waited for Dennis's response.
"You fuckin' better.")
