he could shove himself in the sun and bet so stubbornly that all of what was happening was nothing but an ordeal coming from whoever brought them there and ruled the island. from the people usually making the streets look less constructed disappearing into few equally confused ones looking around in search of answers ( he has none, sorry guys, he’s a knight not a seer ) and the sky turning red with ruins and meteor crater, and unsettling sights of himself looped around like products of a glitched cartridge shoved back into the console ━as if they knew exactly what was inside his mind, the shattering and the heavy weight, the backheaded nostalgia for the hot texan sun and the lines of skyscrapers merging with some fallout-esque aesthetic he never asked for and probably will never in the history of ever.
it surely had the hoped effect, to give him the cursed heebie jeebies all over his bony spine. did anyone used heebie jeebies anymore, tho ━it wasn’t exactly time to get puzzled over thought processes and self narrating dialogues, for sure. not when there was some growling, not when he had a very bad feeling and his own ( lack of decent ) weaponry was just as shitty. there was something charging in his direction and he was so goddamn sure about that, he could hear some ugly stomping and growling that reminded him of the ogres in locah to slay for some grinding ━not surprising, sure, but definitely an annoyance when all he had was a shitty wooden sword and a little bit of that floaty hi-jink.
whatever thing that was, it glitched like crazy ━and looked like it wasn’t going to stop its charge anytime soon. thinking quick and acting ready was what he needed to do, having to fight the instinct of grabbing for a katana he didn’t have was one more, and in the end the best idea he could have was to grab some poor unfortunate soul and drag them towards the corner before the… whatever thing that was had a chance at squeezing them flat on the ground like a roadroller. “ that was a fucking close one. ” he grimaced, eyes squeezed shut behind the lenses of his shades and scalp pressing against the wall. “ whatever the fuck that thing was, it looks pretty fucking hungry. ”
from the moment she arrived on the island, she had been grasping at the last fragments of understanding that she had left. clamouring in the open air, kurisu struggled to accept that she was at the mercy of some cruel god. it was foolish of her to believe that her intelligence could set her apart from a row of marching ants or a flock of migrating birds. no--- at the end of all things, she was no different; just a pawn in an unforgiving game. she would always follow whatever rules they set, regardless of whether she wanted to or not. talk about dismal.
science, research, quantifiable facts. those were her infallible walls, the only things keeping her mind from going rampant. but even before she arrived on the island, these walls were beginning to look less like iron and more like wax; melting, seeping through the cracks, letting something in. her only solace was that the breaches only ever manifested in her dreams--- she’s standing by her own corpse or sitting in a tiny box of an apartment, huddled around a time machine mircowave--- until now.
the line between her dreams and the waking world was so thin that she could barely tell the difference between sleeping and being awake. ruined buildings in her peripheral, the feeling of being watched--- of being hunted. kurisu often found herself wandering alone, allowing her mind to take her other places, finding comfort in whatever vestiges of normalcy she could find. unfortunately, there seemed to be less and less of them as the days drew on.
kurisu only vaguely acknowledged the presence of another person, hearing their footsteps scramble on pavement. it wasn’t soon after that she was pulled to the side, the faintest whisper of a yelp escaping her lips. again, the corners of her vision warped, revealing the smouldering skeletons of buildings and lamp posts. it was only then that she realized this stranger had saved her from some gruesome end. “ oh-- oh! w-what just happened? d-did you just--- i--- “ dumbfounded doesn’t look good on her. kurisu scrambles to her feet, carding a hand through her hair. there’s a lump in her throat when she speaks. “ do you have any idea what’s going on here? “
