A missive to Our American Neighbours
Hey America,
You're making us nervous. Like, we're really starting to get worried over here. It's almost as though you constantly forget that you're sitting on a big ole powder-keg of all the world's worst worries come to light. I look at the Great Lakes up on the map on my wall and I realise that when that worse comes to worst, total annihilation is just across those tiny little ponds. My daily prayer is "Please God, don't let it all explode. Their guns! Their violence! Their total nihilism! they know not what they do."
I'd say that there's an elephant in the room, but it's bigger than an elephant. There's a whale about to land on the house. I watch its shadow growing bigger every day. I’ve been sleeping outside now and then to check how much farther it has to fall.
At first, it was a tiny little speck. It was like a shiny wee 747 way up there in the clouds on its way to god knows where; in fact, that's what I thought it was. It was easy to miss back then, to dismiss it as a blip on the radar screen of some air traffic controller. Someone else's whale shaped problem. It was easier to ignore, too. Turn your thoughts away and maybe it will stop and all that. Wedge your head in the nearest ready orifice and find some other thing to occupy your distractions.
The trees at the edge of the yard are blocked out by the sun now, I'm not sure how much longer we'll be able to ignore this. It's got to be pretty close to impact now. What that impact will be remains so much to be seen, so much to be decided, and so much to be witnessed by all of humanity.
Thank God, that all their mistakes will be witnessed by all of humanity.
But who will be the judge?
