Patrik is an excellent environment and character modeling artist from Roswell, Georgia. Patrik stands behind an ambitious project of remake of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Check out his latest artwork for 90Edges Universe (see above).

90Edges Universe - Second quarter

Today it is exactly six months since I decided to start working on 90Edges Universe. To this occasion we switched our web into a new web design (made by Jan Červený). Do you like it? I do!

By the way, you can take a look on the screenshot of a new player-created content, a space station, made by Jaroslav Šmat. Jaroslav is one of our excited players/testers of internal alpha version.

Progress

Actual development (2nd quarter) has been very slow last three months because I focused on looking for new team members, sponsors and investors (see more info in following sections). Next three months (3rd quarter) will be more about intensive development again and also about marketing tasks. I guess you may be interested in a blog post related to our 1st quarter - if you missed it. Source code of our project is hosted in GitHub private repository. See the graphical representation of my contributions in last 6 months:

Team

We are a virtual team and we will, I hope, always be. I am working full-time on this game and all other team members are contractors from various cities round the world (our team members are currently located in 3 different countries in Europe and United States). From a small team made only by 2 developers we grew up during last quarter into team made by 7 developers (programming, music composer, web design, quality assurance, game design and two artists). Stay tuned, we will introduce you our new team members in following weeks!

Funding - First and second quarter

We have several FF Sponsors (FF stands for Friends and Family) and several FF Investors. All those sponsors and investors are currently willing to support 90Edges Universe on monthly basis as long as they are satisfied with direction and growth of our project. Dear friends and family members, thank you for your support!

It seems, at this moment, we have a clear way how to finance at least next 18 months of development.

Hello my fellow space explorers. This is just a small update after a few weeks of work in very hot summer weather! Before I start, take a look on the screenshot of Antonin's new space station (it is called Flower). I really like it!

Last week I spent a few hours with my friends in Prague (Jana Smat and Jaroslav Smat). Jana is on maternity leave taking care of her beautiful 9 months old daughter Rozarka and Jaroslav is fire protection designer and previous member of Czech Astronomical Society. We discussed various topics related to 90Edges Universe. I want to thank them for valuable feedback and for a few excellent ideas!

I'm currently working on improvements of universe generator. Do you like procedurally generated content in games? I can say procedural generation is one of my passions. Take care and enjoy this hot summer (at least for me and my team is this summer really hot)!

Holy Ship!

Hello my fellow space explorers. I'm currently working on implementation of some base code related to graphical user interface. Last week I spent some time with Antonin Charvat and with Jan Cerveny. Jan is designer, member of DSPlayer team. He is one of the most positively thinking people I have ever met. We discussed various topics related to 90Edges Universe. Thank you for your feedback, Jan! I appreciate it.

Dark Matter (background music made by Antonin) is playing in the game since the last version (90Edges Universe 0.0.7-alpha). Well done, Antonin! I am looking forward to additional music!

90Edges Universe - Funding - First Quarter

Today it is exactly three months since I decided to start working on 90Edges Universe. Few weeks later (on the end of May) I has been inspired with some content shared in one Czech Facebook Group related to startups to start looking for sponsors and investors. We are very small team. Introducing Main Features of 90Edges Universe

Before I write something about main features I would like to share a new space station made by Michal Hantl in 90Edges Universe 0.0.6-alpha. It is based on his space station we shared on Twitter few days ago. Click on the screenshot to see it in HD.

Main features:

Explore - On your space station will be available a space telescope which can be used for observation of distant galaxies and other outer space objects. When you find nice place (nice galaxy or something) you may jump (with "hyperspace" jump drive - FTL) with whole space station deep into unknown universe close to the object you just found. It looks like we will be able to provide such a big zoom that you may see one single star in distance of 14 billion parsecs (distance which  represent the radius of the visible universe - in real universe we live in). There will be also possibility to find and explore other player's space stations (inside). 

Build - You may build space station and then build structures and puzzles (in corridors) inside your space station. There will be possibility to design and build space stations for other players to explore (and solve your puzzles inside). Other features related to building are under consideration. We will let you know later.

Cooperate - One way of cooperation will be based on sharing of processed astrophotographies with other players. Processed astrophotography contain additional information as e.g. distance. Computer on your space station will "struggle" to process one astrophotography. Because of time consumption to process them you may prefer to exchange astrophotographies with other players. There will be also possibility to catalogue galaxies. Other multiplayer features are still under consideration. We will let you know later.

I am currently working on 90Edges 0.0.7-alpha (next weekly build). Few days ago Antonin Charvat provided me the first final song (it is called Dark Matter). I have to finish sound support in 90Edges Framework to be able to use it in the next version of 90EU.

I just would like to answer the question one of our tumblr followers asked.

Question: "So can u like alter its orbit and stuff or is this in interstellar space?"

Answer: Space Stations in 90Edges Universe are in interstellar space. Structures built in the game are called space stations but we may look at them as on spacecrafts too because of their possibility for occasional hyper drive jumps. It is nice to see procedurally generated universe together with Antonin's space station (is's called Scorpio). I just finished basic support for textures. Space stations with at least simple texture on every space station segment looks better. When I finish deletion of individual space station segments and support for undo and redo in space station editor 90Edges Universe 0.0.3-alpha will be ready for internal testing!

Now I am working on prototype of research section to be able to upgrade technology from space station structure level 1 (16 segments per circle) to level 2 (32 segments per circle). Then both modes will be available in space station editor (in version 0.0.3-alpha).

This is massive space station Michal Hantl made during alpha testing. I can't wait what he will make when uprade to Space Station Structure Level 2 (32 segments per circle instead of 16) will be available! Last seven days I spent more on debugging, alpha test support and planning/consulting than on development. I spent almost whole Sunday with Michal and we discussed important topics related to 90Edges Universe. One of the main features will be possibility to walk inside your space station and also possibility to build structures inside! Next seven days I will focus more on development.
