here’s their reference to start off with! lore yapping under the cut!
so nevada masque is the current character i’m playing in a homebrew with some of my very dear friends, i was originally an addition to the campaign a couple months in, but nevada has been a concept character of mine for probably four or so years now! i was very glad that my dm was okay with me using them, i didn’t have much dnd knowledge at the time but i’ve had a blast learning and playing!
nevada is a changeling horizon walker from the depths/underdark :) as per the lore my dm and i came together with was that changelings are all from the faywild, but the specific village in the depths that nevada was with tended to take on more “deep creature” traits, so that’s why nevada looks the way they do!!!
they’ve bounced back and forth from the depths and the faywilds in their work, and about a year and a half prior to the events of the campaign, they meet an ambitious fire genasi adventuring in the depths named atlas. begrudgingly, atlas lets nevada follow them around as they search for artifacts, and there’s this one-sided friendship that they cultivate, where nevada thinks its a friendship but atlas is really just using them for information and wants to acquire the horizon walker powers they have, etc etc.
they live in this village in the depths for a while together, until atlas’s true intentions are revealed, and he just goes crazy one day and burns the entire village down, and tries to trap and kill nevada alongside it. nevada survives ofc, with only a few burn scars, and some local newlyweds who weren’t affected by the fire take them in and care for them.
so nevada is deeply traumatized and afraid of fire/the smell of smoke after this, but they are now motivated to find atlas before he can hurt more people/use his new knowledge to harm the realm. at the same time, the realm is starting to see incredibly odd changes (rising dead, evil powers at play, tensions among kingdoms, etc etc) nevada meets the rest of the player characters about several months or so in their travels. (sidenote; nevada now disguises themself as a merchant who carves wooden masks and other trinkets so they aren’t just flaunting about saying they’re a horizon walker lol) and after seeing the other party members have similar goals to them, in helping the world with these strange occurrences, nevada joins them!
i have so much more lore from the campaigns that i could yap about, but i fear this is already getting way too long LOL, so i’ll leave you with some little facts and their ref!
🐌 they have a little wooden slug toy that was made for them by the wife of the newlyweds that took them in after the fire, so it’s their biggest comfort <3
🐌 really enjoy hearty meals and snacks, like soups and things with rice, mushrooms, and eggs !
🐌 an ageless and genderless creature, but is considered the party’s baby/youngest sibling
🐌 the way i voice them in game is based off of the singer AURORA’s voice and midna from twilight princess!
