and the Iraqi people welcomed the Americans with flowers. I wanted to set a historical event to teach Bush a lesson from the Iraqis, telling him you lied, we did not welcome you with flowers, and instead we are saying goodbye with our shoes.“
Muntaza Al Zaidi, the Iraqi reporter who became known as the guy who threw a shoe at Bush and later ended up in jail for three years because of it.

Since John Mulaney is getting divorced after becoming sober, I feel now is the time to tell people that
A) Often when someone gets sober they become a different person. This is because they didn’t just have to change the drinking and drugs parts, they had to change everything to make it so that the sobriety would stick. They change in the sense that they have to get rid of all the negative voices in their head, and once they get rid of them, they have time to actually be themselves. They’re not fighting all these demons anymore. They have to figure out what makes them truly happy. And often what makes them happy isn’t what made them happy before.
B) Just because they’re getting divorced doesn’t mean their love wasn’t real. It just means that it faded. Or morphed. Or is still there but doesn’t work in a sense of a marriage anymore. You can’t marry everyone you love. You just can’t. Because marriage is more than just love, it’s also support, friendship, and whatever else the both of you need it to be. And sometimes the love just isn’t enough. So they really did love each other, but they might just not be compatible partners anymore.
C) None of this is really our business. They’re real people, with emotions and thoughts. They don’t need the entire internet commenting about how “Love is Dead”, because they both need to move on, and that’s not going to help them. It’s just going to make the pain worse. So if you want to be a decent person, keep your melodrama to yourself.
This take is pissing me off so Im going to just rant about it to get it out of my system.
Elon Musk's SNL bits weren't unfunny because he's autistic, they were unfunny because he's an out of touch conservative billionaire with a cult of personality who panders to online nerd communities who are obsessed with 4chan, cryptocurrency, and saying slurs as often as possible. Every time this man says a single thing it's incredibly clear he has no idea what life is like for the average person and has been spoonfed by others his entire life. He didn't start tesla, he bought it. He's more of a detriment to SpaceX than a positive. He's rich because mommy and daddy being racists in apartheid South Africa. He owns a fucking diamond mine. He calls literal heroes pedophiles for daring to criticize his stupid plans thatd kill innocents. His companies violate almost every OSHA standard (and thats just the shit in the USA) and his space company rains dangerous shit all over American cities.
People don't hate Elon Musk because he's autistic. People hate Elon Musk because he's a Captain Planet villain.
And, trying to level that disgust towards him as disgust towards autistic people is so extremely ableist. Elon Musk getting made fun of for being terrible at comedy and being an unrelatable billionaire is not the same as autistic people getting made fun of for not being able to communicate ideas.
Fuck all the way off.
he’s also ugly
Shortstaffing should be illegall
"But what if I can't afford to hire more employees?"
If you have more customers than your employees can handle and you're still not making enough, then you need to sort out your finances. Raise prices if necessary.
Your overhead isn't worth more than your workers' health.
“And if that’s not enough, then just buy more money!”
Listen. If you cannot afford to pay all your employees a living wage and employ a number of people equal to the workload, then you are bad at business management and should consider exploring other career paths. Such as being a cashier.
y’all might be thinking that small businesses would get the short end here. but the thing is, all the small businesses i’ve ever worked for or been involved with, when they didn’t have enough employees to cover the time, the owner worked it themselves, or they closed early/opened late.
the places that consistently shortstaff are big franchises, especially fast food chains. they prey on desperate workers who can’t afford to say no, and use them up like they’re disposable. it’s disgusting and it should be as illegal as hiring 9 year olds or holding paychecks hostage.

thinking about how fiona's bit in the first shrek movie about how ogres are so ugly and unlovable, which is overheard by shrek, is the perfect example of how self-deprecation can really harm not only the people around you who love and care for you, but also people who share the same characteristics that you are mocking in yourself
I need to do a better job of reminding myself of this.
Please share this!!!!! As you resident vitiligan and fellow artist I am here to educate people on how to properly create a character with vitiligo and other things to keep in mind about the disorder.
Only 1% of the entire world’s population has vitiligo but I see so many artists making characters with it when they sometimes don’t even know what vitiligo is and pass it off as “skin pigmentation”. Like— what does that even mean??? XD
It’s not an aesthetic and it won’t get you “diversity points” so stop romanticizing vitiligo!
if u consider yourself a horror fan you like NEED to be aware and educated on the ableism thats been put at the heart of so much horror. like... is that character actually scary or do they just have a limp/scars/disfigurement that real normal people have irl and have to see depicted as horrifying and dehumanizing? if you think any of those things or things like it are scary in ANY context you need to step away from the horror genre and familiarize yourself with the fact that people can and do look like that and they do not deserve to be an object of fear

For Autism Acceptance Month, I felt the urge to focus on Quinn’s terrible experience with a certain type of therapy that many autistic children were/are subjected to. For Quinn, this lead to masking, self harm, and overwhelming stress growing up. Because of her need to protect Claudette from this abuse, she was finally able to understand that her own autism wasn’t a bad thing and taught her daughter the same.
Misinformed and ablest societies are the reason why autistic people call for acceptance rather than awareness. We don’t need a cure, we need understanding and resources that actually help us rather than those that stigmatize and try to change us.

pulling stunts that strengthen the public's perception of gay people as satanic perverts is a shitty thing to do. the end
counterpoint: it’s really funny.
lil nas x: i was demonized from a young age because of the unique intersection of my blackness and queerness within the church and now im reclaiming that for myself and showing young queer people that they always have a place where they’ll be accepted, even if they have to carve it out of the hell they were promised
random shitforbrains tumblr users: actually portraying queer people, including yourself, as sexually empowered or subversive in any way makes the homophobes mad :/// maybe just act normal??? idk pulling that “”stunt”” is kinda homophobic
I feel like this isn't the discussion to use the use of the q slur in regards to the LGBT community js
This is exactly the conversation to use queer, because it is a conversation about not making ourselves comfortable to be around. Not in a way of intentionally unsettling people-- but in a way of not minimizing ourselves to be easier to overlook, like "a good gay person". Some people genuinely don't seem very overtly queer, and some people couldn't hide it if they wanted to.
For both people, wholeheartedly embracing that everything they do will in some way be demonized takes away the power that shame has over the LGBT community. It becomes freeing instead.
When someone says "you're bad" and you go "yes, and?" What are they supposed to say to that?
Nothing.

Christians hate when a gay man goes “fuck it, I’ll gladly go to Hell if you want me to so bad” because it takes the edge away from their tools of fear. If they can’t scare you with threats of eternal damnation then one of their main weapons is taken away.
calling out @brightismarstonight because yes
“You’re supposed to fear your father/parents” this isn’t the first time I’ve seen someone say that someone told them this in the tags. Christianity as an institution is one of the biggest shelters for abusers out there and this shit right here is how they do it.
