-BD when we say we practiced over a long weekend
Today I made the mistake of thinking I could sight-read the finale of Tchaik 4
I could not
@ me trying to sight read literally anything for French horn
WHAT IS THIS KEY SIGNATURE?????!?
WHAT IS THIS KEY SIGNATURE?!?!
UMM????!!!!!!
me composing my Bullshit
Okokok if I were handed this (I hope with all my heart that I will never see this but if I was) I’d guess double flats? But like ✨custom key signature✨? Dunno about that three flat action though, like a triple flat I guess... which sounds like waaaay too much brian power to conceptualise.
Tip for what to write in you part next time you see a “take off mute sign thing”
“Throw that mute as hard as you fucking can into the eyes of the violist sitting across from you”
Hold up, hooooold up. Strings have mUTeS?
asking people whether or not they would like to join the recorder club that I may or many not be forming is a really good litmus test for whether or not they are a true friend
I tried starting a kazoo orchestra a year or so ago and I learned who my real friends are
Keep the ones that see you playing a ridiculous instrument and ask to join in
to add onto some statements I made recently, tenor clef and all other moveable clefs are absolutely silly and unnecessary. “but you don’t have to use as many ledger lines sometimes.” okay but at what cost?
Retweet
!!!!!Ledger lines are not bad!!!!
holy shit there’s no way you play that many instruments. pls i have so many questions omg. How many yrs have you been playing for (total)? which is ur fav and why? how long did you spend on one instrument before going to the next? How the fuk do u schedule practicing for all of them? how *long* do you practice for all of them? :DDDD
Ok total years is probably like 13? But that was when I started marimba in primary school as a part of the music program to teach kids discipline or something like that. The other ones are between 1 and 7 years of playing (and also probably will be increasing as I contemplate learning piano).
That is such a difficult question, they all give me something different and have such a different feel to them. Guitar was my first true love and I think has a special place in my heart especially because I usually play for stress relief and just general enjoyment. But trombone gives me so much power, playing it in large groups is one of the best feelings in the world. French horn is stupidly difficult for me so when I finally nail something it’s an awesome rush but cello has such a lovely and rich sound and uke is so fun to accompany people with and now I’m rambling 😅
They’ve all got different sized gaps in between, I don’t “move on” per say, it’s more that the opportunity is given to me to learn something new and my brain just “new sound to make??? Absolutely yes???” In one case, for French horn and cello, I started them at the same time.
I called this a multi instrumental disaster for a reason. Practice schedule? Absolutely not. I base my practicing on vibe, mood, soreness, and whether or not it’s 2 am. Unfortunately I only own a few of the instruments I play, so I would usually weasel my way into my school’s mostly unused collection but because of covid I haven’t been able to do that. In usual times I can get about 13 hours of practice in per week, depending on how large my workload is for school.
But omg thank you so much for the questions! This really made my day. If you have any more absolutely feel free to message me.
I got an eight measure long solo on bass clarinet for concert band since I am the only bass cl. And... We had to replay that part a bunch of times because my dumb head didn't play loud... 😔
Finally getting a cool part and then not doing it loudly is the biggest low end mood
Hi! People who have used bell covers/player’s masks! How does it feel I have to wait for a while for mine to come
The thrilling sequel: spit either goes into a lil cup or we have to walk all the way out of the music building and put it outside.

Yeah I’m thinking my neighbors are pumped that I’m going back to school, that is unless they miss me dancing around the house yell counting random rhythms to the metronome that’s been playing for the past hour straight.
Every trombone: please, you know what the gliss sounds like, please just stop asking
That one random person:
So I have a bunch of friends who sing, and we were imagining what it would be like if we were a band. Of course I had to ask the stupid question.
who would play the instruments?
Apparently I would
Bringing this back up because they’re at it again
I have...so many questions
Ask away my dude, they really thought out this idea
The trumpet and the foot perc I can understand, I have a small arsenal of foot perc myself. What I cannot understand about this is:
Is the bow held in the left foot, because if it is, major kudos
How does the kazoo attach to the trumpet, and would the method used have any effect on the intonation?
Yes I think they want the bow in the left foot (though I don’t think they thought about normal cello orientation when making this picture). Never attempted this and am quite frankly too scared to
Lots of duct tape, gauze, and patience. It sounds real bad if the air hits it the right way
So earlier this year I went to a mini festival and at the end of the band performances we all sat in the theater seats with our instruments and spaces out stands and played a Big song. The hosting school director selected a suite of sorts on a bunch of Scottish songs. So because of reasons I cannot explain, the back row was entirely trumpet and the second back row was low brass + reeds (including yours truly on trombone). Let me tell you, there is very little more jarring than playing the bagpipe drone of Scotland the Brave (not knowing exactly how it goes) and all of the sudden I kid you not 40 trumpets directly behind you start blasting the melody. Anyways I’m sorry to every row that sits in front of brass I understand your pain now
There’s such an eeriness about recording studios. Like, no one in there? Too quiet, not good, uncomfortable. More than three people in there? Loud but muffled, not good. It’s both way too dark and bright at the same time. The concept of time doesn’t exist, you haven’t spoken to anyone in an hour but you got complemented on your group effort. Did I just finish that piece? No it must’ve been finished last week. I swear that button has never existed. I walk out, and couldn’t tell you what I’d been working on
I have been informed this is called liminal space
Question for percussionist who play standing instruments
How do you not groove? How do you not Feel The Vibe and not just Vibe back? You can stand and you arguably have the most space of the ensemble musicians, but I’ve never seen y’all do anything other than have your feet planted firmly and maybe slight swaying but lemme tell you when i journey to percussion land the vibing never stops, I have a marimba and I will dance
