Look what my friend with no social media posted to the chat with the damning staggered timestamps of 1:11, 1:37, and 1:42 A.M.
Image description: art showing a person holding a small figure, text above them reads: "Thinking about the character", the words "the character" are the same color as the figure the person holds. In the second image the person still holds the figure now their mouth is wide open. In the last the person is biting down on the figures head, while holding it, stretching its body. end Image description
basically my favorite thing to do is imagine The Character in some sort of situation of terrible emotional turmoil. it’s like enrichment for me
"Idiots," I say, referring to the characters I have spent hundreds of my real life hours contemplating.
Are you currently suffering from The Character?
[image description: tumblr tag in all-caps reading: "#yes. stage 4".]
online fandom is so fun because we’ll be talking about very serious character moments and analyzing them and stuff and there will be a lull in the discussion and someone will be like “and then they fuck about it” and then we’re all like yeah and then they fuck about it
haha nooooo fandom don't sand off all the rough edges and pointy bits off of that character those are the parts I scratch my brain with haha
op disabled reblogs but i really wanted this post on my blog again
I was confused you see.
i agree so much about making your blorbos pathetic but i do fear that many take this to mean 'make them more traditionally feminine/submissive' which genuinely hurts my soul. make your blorbos pathetic in interesting character-oriented ways. understand their neuroses and turn the dials up to eleven. juxtapose the parts of life they handle extremely well with the parts of their lives that make them eat shit. make them angry. make them cold. make them pave their own way to hell while building walls preventing them from seeing any other way. please i'm begging you no more pathetic as an euphemism for bottoming im gonna mclose it.
idk guys sometimes you just have to accept a ship dynamic is unhealthy, insane, and sometimes abusive. and its not real people so those factors just make it interesting
please stop unfolding the origami crane and smoothing it out bc you got worried the paper was hurting from the bends

hi, pardon the rp blog, but i was telling my friend who loves poldark about the insane amount of jim hawkins/riss poldark fics and i decided to investigate and you were the first person to post on that tag so please, i have to know: why did you create this ship?? im obsessed with your brain
I think other people actually used the tag first, but they might have taken things down when they moved to other fandoms?
Poldark/ Treasure island happened as an extension of the Fíli/Kíli ship from The Hobbit, (or possibly an extension of Aidan Turner/ Dean O'Gorman Hobbit RPF?)
Aidan Turner who plays Poldark played Kíli. Dean O'Gorman, who played Fíli, also played Jim Hawkins in a... not particularly excellent made-for-tv Treasure Island sequel, "Return to Treasure Island".
Poldark and Treasure Island are set during the same time period, though, so for some people, it felt like a really natural fit, to put those two things together and play with that ship.
The Fíki pairing has inspired a lot of really interesting crossover ships. Another one that's pretty popular is Being Human (U.K.) (where Aidan Turner played a vampire) and The Almighty Johnsons (a NZ show where Dean O'Gorman played a reincarnation (more or less) of Bragi, the Norse god of poetry).
If you want to see some of the other fantastic, creative stuff that folks from the Fíki fandom come up with, you should check out @gatheringfiki !
realizing a headcanon of yours happens to make an element of canon even more heartbreaking when you hadn't even considered it from that angle previously
[ID from alt: emoji rubbing their hands together and grinning evilly. End ID.]
neither “that’s not canon” nor “fuck canon we made this all up” but a secret third thing (canon shouldn’t be taken as gospel but is useful as a reference point for building upon and recontextualizing characters and details. if you worship the source material as unchangeable then fandom in general probably isn’t for you. if you have complete disdain for the source material you would probably enjoy yourself more in a different fandom)
you ever get so into the whole "it would have been good if it was good" thing that it gets kind of embarrassing. it would have been good if it was good but it's Not and in fact it's maybe worse than anything else but unfortunately. it still could have been good. if it was go
