College, Muggle AU: Harry suddenly realizes Ginny is pretty. Fuck. This is one of my all-time favorite Muggle AUs! Harry’s epiphany is so hilarious, as is his fear that Ron will find out. I simply love Harry in this story. He feels so like the pining, angsty Harry I love, even when he’s a Muggle.

College, Roommate, Muggle AU: Ohhh, I just love this story! Recently injured football player Ginny goes to visit her brothers’ campus as she scopes out potential universities to attend. Given the lack of available beds, Ron gives up his room so Ginny ends up rooming with his best mate, Harry for the weekend. This captures the essence of the Harry and Ginny I love, the way they can’t help but be drawn to each other, and the ticks they need to choose whether or not to overcome.

I genuinely can’t comprehend why the narrative made Ron seem so unfavorable in terms of romance. The guy’s really funny, kind, loyal, and brave. He’s an admirable person. I get that Ron’s not exactly the most attractive of people but it’s not usually about that. A lot of times, people don’t really care about that first. This might just be a thing for me but at my school, the guys that are crushed on the most are always the ones that are funny and kind. Yeah, some are attractive but people aren’t usually so vain to only care about that. So in conclusion: even if Ron’s not the most attractive of people, he’s still a very charismatic and empathetic person. That, in my opinion, is more attractive than physical features will ever be.

From an in-universe perspective, it really doesn’t make sense why someone with a good a personality as Ron didn’t at least attract a little romantic attention. It’s possible that everyone just assumed he was dating Hermione, but that’s a bit of a stretch. Oh, well; another issue with Harry’s limited perspective, he’s probably not going to notice other people crushing on his best mate.

Ginny is my favorite character (really closely followed by Harry, though some days they’re so neck-and-neck, I can barely tell anymore). I dislike Romione because he's constantly running Hermione down to feel better about himself. And no, it doesn't matter if he's running her down when he thinks he's doing it privately, it's still unacceptable misogynistic behavior designed to undermine independent, intelligent, hard-working girls just so this entitled asshole doesn't have to feel bad about being a mediocre wizard. If he wants to be better than his other brothers combined, he should WORK for it! Instead he pulls everyone down.

i don't think teasing means "running down". ron sure teases hermione for her academic prowess, but hermione never seems to take it to heart, because, well, she probably knows he's just joking. because, y'know, friends joke around. that's what friends do. the "she's a nightmare" comment wasn't taking a jab at her for being a supposed know-it-all, rather a jab at her condescension. it's still not ok, but he made that insult when he was eleven and before they were even friends.

op is right; ron constantly compliments hermione for her intelligence. the most notable moment being when he defended hermione from snape, who called her an 'insufferable know-it-all". that doesn't sound like ron is discouraging hermione from being academically smarter than him.

ron is happy when he manages to disarm hermione 1-3 times during the first official DA meeting, since he recognizes and accepts that hermione is better at casting spells. he's not mad at hermione for being better than him at all.

ron DOES work towards his goals. he practiced playing quidditch almost every evening in OoTP so he could join the quidditch team. he's mortified and humiliated due to stage fright and the ridiculing from the slytherins during the quidditch games, and he understandably almost quits. emphasis on almost. he overcame his stage fright without harry's help the first time. a lot of people would've just gave up in his position. he didn't.

even if ron isn't on hermione's level in terms of his grades, that doesn't mean he always leeches off of her. if you read the books carefully (which i doubt you have, no offense), you would've seen instances where he is diligently studying for his exams without hermione's help, managing to earn 7 OWLS, only three less than hermione.

and uh? "mediocre wizard" pfft grades don't mean everything. would a mediocre wizard cast a levitation spell on a heavy ass club at eleven? would a mediocre wizard cast a non verbal curse at twelve (yes, i know the "eat slugs" curse backfired, but he had a malfunctioning wand and guess what? the curse technically still worked)? would a mediocre wizard cast a freezing spell on a tiny wasp in mid-air non-verbally? would a mediocre wizard stun a fast moving target in the head while moving a lot himself? would a mediocre wizard be able to disarm bellatrix lestrange? c'mon. c'mon.

you could argue he could've worked harder, and to an extent, i agree. but like? the characters have to be somewhat realistic. having all three protagonists be god tier students who never procrastinate or be, y'know, teenagers seems like a stretch to me.

- "Nice," said Ron, as with one final flourish of her wand, Hermione turned the leaves on the crabapple tree to gold. "You've really got an eye for that sort of thing." "Thank you, Ron!" said Hermione, looking both pleased and a little confused. (DH)

- "You're amazing, you are," said Ron, handing her his bundled up robes. "Thank you," said Hermione, managing a small smile as she pushed the robes into the bags. (DH)
