If people could see my Ao3 history
Hereās something cute
When lockdown happened in the UK it happened very suddenly. At the law firm I work at, our office building emptied overnight when everyone was told to work from home. No time to clear our desks, no time to bring office plants home.
Fast forward three and a half months - everyone assumes that their plants are dead.
But then! An email goes round! Itās turns out that one of our security guards is a florist, and -
-the security team has moved EVERY SINGLE PLANT from all 12 FLOORS of our office building into the cafeteria. Itās been turned into a temporary greenhouse. Cacti and succulents and spider plants and terrariums and potted ferns
AND! Each plant has been INDIVIDUALLY LABELLED by hand with post-it notes with name and desk location so the plants can go home after lockdown ends
To give some indication of the scale of the endeavour:
If you zoom into the centre right photo you can see one of our security team happily waving
The plants are being taken care of tenderly. They get sun and water and are spending happy times with other plant friends
the speech impediment of the 21st century (by Marc Johns)
Iāll fuck you up buddy this is not a speech impediment itās linguistic evolution!! the existence of the phrase āAisha was likeā allows the speaker to convey whatever Aisha said without making the listener assume theyāre quoting Aisha directly while still maintaining the FEELING of what Aisha said.
ie, Aisha said she didnāt want to go out with me VERSUS Aisha was like, āIād rather kiss a Wookieā.
the addition of āXYZ was likeā lets the speaker be more expressive and efficient and it is a totally valid method of communicating information!!
With the way language has evolved, this is one of the few ways I can even think of to express in casual conversation what someone said.Ā
āSo I said to Aisha,ā is certainly used, but if you remove the āso,ā which implies casual tone (āandā can be used in the same way), you get
āI said to Aisha,ā which is really formal in most English dialects/variations. I donāt know about all, but in New England dialects, you sound like youāre reading aloud from a novel.
āI told Aisha,ā is really only used when you continue to describe, not tell, what you told her. Ex: āI told Aisha that James was too punk for herā works while, āI told Aisha, āJames is too punk for youāā crosses the line back into formalness of the āI said.ā
Things like āI askedā or āI answered [with]ā are similar levels of casual and efficient to the āSo, I said [or say, as many conversations about the past take place in present tense anyway, as if the speaker is giving a play-by-play in the moment]ā but are specific to only certain situations.Ā
āI was like, āMarc Johns, what is your obsession with restoring archaic speech patterns and interfering with the natural progression of English from complex to efficient?āā envelopes all of these easily and is accessible and crisp, and allows for more variations on inflection than the others.
Of course, James is probably like, āI already fucking said that.ā But eh, I tried adding on.
#linguisticsĀ #a.k.a. how I learned to stop worrying and love the evolution of the English language without being a discriminatory elitist jerkĀ (via crystalandrock)
I hate feeling like people are getting bored of me
Youāre not here to entertain anybody
wow youāre right
*sends a message* they hate me they hate me they hate me they hate m *gets a reply* oh hey cool! *types something back* they hate me they hate me they h
why are ppl saying it's ableist to tell ppl you owe them an apology when you hurt them during a mental health episode..... y'all know being mentally ill doesn't make you exempt from being a shitty person
but then again a lot of ppl on here think friendships are free therapy sessions where no one is allowed to disagree with you or set up a boundary or thatās toxic so
I just CANT shut up baby!!!!!!! Iām absolutely FULL of STUPID and simply MUST share it with the world!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you to every single fucking person on this god forsaken site that has ever posted your own art or writing. You really put a vulnerable, important part of yourself out in the open on the hellscape that is the internet and if that isnt an act of bravery and a labor of love I dont know what one is
every august without fail is like i will give you some of the most beautiful golden summer moments of your life but also you will be thinking about childhood and loss constantly. it will always be either 5pm or 2am
oh to be standing next to a stranger, staring at the same painting in an art museum, an unspoken romance between us
feeling like maybe. i can only access love through fiction.
Can we talk about this?!
HEY remember in WWII when Jewish people were fleeing Germany and the USA put a quota on how many Jewish immigrants they would accept because they were worried there were too many Jewish people coming over to the USA???
Reminder that the USA has always been fucking garbage to immigrants and basic humanity
Hereās how you can help:
Sign this petition calling for the investigation of the mass murder and torture of LGBT people in Chechnya
Support the Rainbow Railroad, actively involved in rescuing LGBTQ+ facing violence in their home countries
Read this article by out.com for more ways you can help stop Chechnyaās concentration camps
Please reblog this. Thereās a lot of arguing in the reblogs/replies, but no links to actual concrete ways to become of help to these people.Ā

iām so in love with domestic sweetness.
cooking dinner with the one you love while they wrap their arms around you. taking quick kiss breaks in between folding fresh laundry. washing each otherās hair in the shower. giggling and rolling around in the fresh sheets you both just finished putting on. dusting while showing off your latest dance moves and having your sweetheart show off their vocals.
itās so comforting to have someone that you just enjoy making a home with. because chores done with someone you love isnāt such a chore after all.
When I was about 11, my father was listening to NPR in the car and I was the captive audience in the back seat with no choice but to listen. It was some gardening and/or food themed show and the host was talking about how carrots grown in the winter produce more sugar. This is an evolutionary tactic on the carrotās part to survive harsh conditions. And that was when this man dropped the most banger line Iāve ever heard. āWhen you bite into a carrot and it tastes sweet, thatās the carrot saying āI donāt want to die.āā I was floored, changed as a person forever. This line haunts me. The poetry. The emotion. NPR made me the sappy garden idiot I am today, romanticizing senescence and over analyzing the science behind vegetables.
