He wanted to talk to Dean about this. He knew something had changed today. but seeing how exhausted Dean was, he decided to let him sleep. He decided to deal with his worst nightmare alone, just so Dean could have some rest after the ordeal he went through that day. I am sure that if Dean knew, he wouldn’t sleep until a solution was found, until he saved his brother again, and Sam knows it, too. That is why he let Dean sleep.
