This is genuinely one of my favourite videos on the fucking planet.
I spotted a reply to one of my posts:
And my knee-jerk response was "no, you should hear my friends talk about their lives--"
And it made me remember something.
Back in high school, my IB class did a lock-in-- where the group of students gets locked into one part of the school overnight on a weekend-- and after junk food and video games lost their appeal, we got to talking.
Only I didn't really know anything about almost any of them. They were all friendly enough, but I kept to myself for the most part, so we didn't have much to talk about once standard small talk ran out.
So I asked one of the other people sitting with me: "what's your story?"
Your life story.
And he told me. Sixteen years or so condensed into maybe a half hour. And it was the most fascinating life I could have imagined: the places he'd been, the things he'd done, the experiences that defined him. It boggled my mind.
When he finished and turned the question around to me, I thought mine sounded really boring in comparison, but he listened open-mouthed to the entire thing. Other kids were gathering around us by now, listening in. And when I finished mine, I turned to another one of them and asked the question to them.
And just like before, my mind was blown. A completely different life, completely different focal points, defining experiences, goals the likes of which were deserving of an anime. And the same happened with the next person we asked, and the next.
By the time each one of us had finished telling their story, it was time to go home for the morning. The video games had been abandoned hours ago. None of us had slept. We were too caught up in each other's lives.
All of which is to say:
Thank you. I do lead a very interesting life.
So do you.
Jesus christ I love humanity
(1)Hello, can I discuss ideas for aus with you, adorable person? If it's bother you ignore it :) or if it's sounding bad or don't fit your taste feel free to ignore it, I will understand and if you like it, wanna join the discuss if you have more ideas (also whoever want too! More people, more fun!) because I love your characterization, god bless us with such a nice person in the hedric fandom. Also, thank you for what you do! I'm sure we all appreciate your work â€
(2) How bout hunger games au then too?Just Imagine it. Harry loses James and Lily due to the game (suspicous death maybe), so heâs sent to the Dursleys. His life is miserable with them and Dudley is so bad that he is basically chosen for the game because he has too many credits which P and V didnât know about, so they force Harry to volunteer in his place. The other player is maybe Ginny or Hermione? Idk whichever is preferred. So Harry and Her/Gin are helping each other (3)through the game and stuff. Maybe Harry has relationship with someone(random person or whoever). Sirius is the drunken mentor (angsty drunk cuz Jamie and Lils) who at first doesnât recognize him but when he finally LOOKS at him heâs remembers them, and finds out Harry is their son and is like âfuck! I have to protect this reckless boyâ(cuz Harry makes enemies from other districts like Draco and Pansy, Malcolm and Romilda.
(4) Herm/Gin is smart so she convinces him to team up after the game starts. Also Luna is the fine lady who oversees the games in Harry and Herm/Ginâs district. Things happen between Luna and Herm/Gin and she doesnât want them to die, they become friends and sheâs just sick in the stomach to watch them fighting for their lives. They win the game after Harry gets the idea of fake relationship. Luna is suffering but they tell her the truth. So Herm/Gin have some secrets but Tom Riddle caughts them(5)which now is a problem with other district rising against him and his people, Cedric is one of those people who plan the revolution. He is in the team that pulls Harry from the game, but the problem is Her/Gin didnât make it with them and is captured.(H cares too much for H/G because sheâs one of the first people who cared about him and shown him kindness) so he is devastated, angry. At first he donât trust the pretty boy(Ced)(Harry don't (6)be smoll boll of skepticism because you have feels) but they work their relationship through many bad situation (maybe some alone time fighting with bad guys after being separated), they make everything work. Umbridge is there too as the second Tom, you know like Coin wants to make hunger games with the citizen of the capitol so Harry canât let that happen⊠idk but just imagine this au! Iâm so so ready for more ausÂ
This is super dope! Itâd be like an insane version of the Triwizard Tournament; Tom Riddle as President Snow, planting his soul or otherwise taking the life of all the reaped tributes in the games to be an immortal leader. Umbridge as Coin is also a spot on adaption, in another life she definitely wouldâve been Voldemort and the parallels between Snowâs and Coinâs leadership and ideals in the book attribute to that.Â
I definitely feel like Hermione and Ron in Galeâs role aka as Harryâs only found family would be a good static, and Ginny with how she develops in HP would fit well as Harryâs partner in the Game. Sirius as Haymitch is fantastic and I think Remus could also fit into that teacher role really well (Iâd probably switch between Remus as Haymitch and Sirius as Cinna!).Â
Luna as Effie would be so wild! I totally dig it though, and her character journey from being whimsy to whimsy and grim would be so interesting to explore. Lastly It feels like Cedric is Finnick, or some version of him and bOY i love that; reading the books, Finnick Odair was an underrated characterâthe amount of sacrifice he made and the skill and personality that he had; just *chef kiss* a stellar character.Â
Thereâs probably other characterizations and plot stuff that I could talk about but the possibilities are well and truly endless lmfao, this is a really great AU idea!
Gotta do it
I donât care what news I get I just want this stupid potato dog on my dash
Same lol
i love pitting classically trained magic users against self-taught magic users in sci-fi/fantasy but it shouldnât be snobbish disdain for them it should be terror
âWHO TAUGHT YOU LIGHTNING BEFORE BASIC TELEKINESIS. LOSING MY MIND WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU JUST DID IT. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAST WITH YOUR BARE HANDSâ

H O W
Iâve had this sort of thing happen.
At least it explained why the package took so long to get here.
I appreciate that they have an Entire Stamp for âMissent to Nepalâ
No one said âhey letâs stop missending things to Nepalâ they just said âletâs make a stamp for thisâ and called it a day.
Iâm gonna get Missent to Guam tattooed on my arm in commemoration.Â
Elon Musk just bought Twitter, for those of you who didn't know.
Rip to @mommybigdick who's probably gonna get banned for being funny.
RIP
ok so people are making fun of this but adding this with other anti-global warming tactics will work
This isnât adding ice just for the sake of denial, itâs adding to the Earthâs albedo. This in turn actually makes the Earthâs climate cooler, and then more ice will be produced naturally because of this.
It isnât a process we need to continue forever, in fact itâs one that needs to be calculated so that we donât do it TOO MUCH. The only worry would be cooling down too much.
So yes, this is a good idea. It simply isnât the only thing we should do because we still have gross pollution.
For the love of god do it . anything just do it. Give us hope.
Hereâs the thing: Most environmental catastrophes humans have ever or are currently creating can be fixed. Itâs not just a matter of âoh no, things are ruined, and maybe we can stop the degradation so that things donât get any worse, but weâre stuck with how things are.â There are some things we canât do, like bringing back extinct species. But there are a lot of other things we can definitely do, many of which are being done right now. The problem is that most of our willpower and effort is spent on bullshit tiny things that wonât solve the problem (individual recycling, etc.) and not on the large-scale things that can and will make a large-scale difference.
Ice caps are melting? Guess what! We know how to make ice. Itâs not that hard. Designing mostly-automated robot ships to go to the poles and rebuild the ice caps is well within our current technical capabilities. We just need to fund it.
Deforestation on a massive scale? Destruction of other biomes? Guess what! We know how to plant trees. We know how to plant grasslands. We know how to take barren, lifeless land and turn it back into a viable biome. Itâs not that hard. In a lot of cases, if thereâs neighboring areas where that biome still exists, all you have to do is dump a few tons of biomass (plant clippings, food waste, etc.) on the barren land and stand back and wait. The biomass will provide nutrients and keep the topsoil from blowing away, and the plants and animals from the neighboring biome will move in. In two decades, even if you donât do anything besides dumping the biomass on it, you wonât be able to tell what was the barren area and what was the still-existing biome.
Coral reefs dying? Now, coral reefs are a bit more fragile than most biomes, but guess what! We still know how to replant/rebuild them, and in fact are working on that in places affected by coral reef die-off! And weâre learning how to do it better every day.
Desertification? Guess what! We know how to turn desert back into green space. Theyâre doing it on a large scale in China and sub-Saharan Africa. There are several different techniques, none of which are even very technology-intensive. It takes money and time and labor, but itâs perfectly doable. We know this because weâve done it.
Plastic in the ecosystem, particularly in the ocean? Guess what! Thereâs a lot of people working on this, both on âhow to remove plastic from the oceanâ and âhow to reuse/recycle it more efficiently.â And the techniques are improving by leaps and bounds every year. This is a solvable problem. These are all solvable problems.
So if youâre crushed by the weight of the coming environmental catastrophe ⊠donât be. These are all solvable problems! We can stop things from getting worse, and we can fix the things weâve broken. The issue is political, not practical.
On the political side, of course, is the need to tighten up environmental regulations across the globe. (Whatâs the statistic, that 90% of pollution is caused by 100 corporations?) And then of course, we need to fund these programs on a large enough scale.
In some ways the political aspect is the hardest, but consider this: we are at a tipping point. Things are changing about the way politicians talk about climate change and ecological degradation. More ordinary people are concerned about this, which means more pressure on politicians. One of the ways that things are changing is that peopleâeven conservativesâare starting to talk about âjob opportunities in new green fieldsâ and switching the conversation so that itâs not ârainforest vs. jobsâ makes political action a lot more possible. And no, itâs not going to happen on its own, but it can happen.
This is a solvable problem.
I *needed* this. Climate change has had me feeling SO helpless, having a list of things that can actually potentially be done is beautiful
Climate change is a technological problem. This statement does not exclude social problems, but the core of the matter is that the fastest most effective way to solving this crisis is through technology.
The corporate bastards WANT you to despair because if we all give up, we stop being a thorn in their side. If people know itâs not hopeless and thereâs actually specific things that can be done & will make a huge difference? Weâll keep giving them shit.
Donât despair. Donât give up.
(Remember the hole in the ozone layer? And how itâs shrinking now? YEAH!)
