So as someone who has never really fucked with comics, I just read through Absolute Wonder Woman, and I fucking love Diana and this premise.

When people pitched it to me I thought Wonder Woman doomguy, which sounded dope. Instead, I got thr most loving wholesome protagonist.

Darkseid: I am going to make a Universe specifically designed to make you and everyone miserable.

Diana: Fuck you look at the infinite power of love and compassion in the face of cruelty.

If this was done in the 2010s or earlier it would have likely been a horrific edgefest.

A thing I really love about Monster Hunter Wilds is that you are not the main character. The expedition into the forbidden lands is explicitly about research and diplomacy, not about hunting anything.

Alma is here to research the local cultures, and make diplomatic connections.

Erik and Werner are here to study the local geology and ecosystem.

Your job as a hunter is not to kill shit, but to allow the nerds to do their jobs safely, and I love that. You are just a bodyguard. An extremely skilled one, but a bodyguard none the less. I think that is great. It isn't about you.

I love the focus on the Hunter's as a research organization. It makes everything far more interesting.

I keep seeing them freaking out over shit that USAID was spending what is effectively chump change on, like it is some massive source of fraud. First, I don't think that word means what they think it means. Second, all of the shit they are freaking out about seems like a good thing. Like, I'm happy we are trying to fight disease in Africa, or promoting sexual health abroad, or trying to make the world less sexist.

I want more people to understand how arbitrary gender is.

Now, I wanna be clear, that doesn't mean it isn't real, or important, but it is extremely artificial, and the lines make no fucking sense.

Gender is a collection of individual traits, behaviors, experiences, ect, that combine together to form something we socially recognize as a coherent whole.

But our current binary is so broad as to be useless. Are you gonna try to tell me the jacked butch lesbian has the same gender as the tradwife who can't even imagine disobeying her husband? Or that the shy nerd who likes button downs and magic and is curious anout makeup is the same gender as the dude bro who only eats meat cause vegetables are gay?

Gender, even within a simple binary, is anything but simple and binary. It is a spectrum, just like color is a spectrum, yet we have decided to only recognize red and blue.

Brian Thompson went into work every day and made decisions that he knew would lead to death and suffering on a truly obscene scale, all in the name of profit. He was a murderer and a monster whose atrocities eclipse those of anyone on death row.

The fact that his weapon of choice was a bureaucratic system that is legally recognized as legitimate does not make him any less culpable for the lives he and his ilk have destroyed, and in fact only allowed him to hurt people on an even larger scale.

I am only saddened by the fact that his death will in no way impede the apparatus he was in charge of from continuing to hurt people.
