Hannah, I doubt you will ever see this, but I hope you do. To start, I want you to know that I appreciate everything that you have done. I can’t imagine what it is like to be in your shoes, the pressure from literally millions of people, but from what I can see, you try to remain true to yourself. I hate to see people so open and vulnerable just to have other people take advantage of you and try to control you. I don’t really know how to say what I am trying to say, but I feel bad that you have had to deal with the negative side of being famous. But, I am grateful that you have put yourself out there. I received your new book, Buffering: Unshared Tales of a Life Fully Loaded, for Christmas. If it weren’t for all of the family gatherings that I had to go to, I would have finished it in one day. Anyways, I finished reading your book, and I have been changed, or something like that. Saying that I have been changed sounds a little weird. While your childhood was quite different from mine, I found that we both process situations in a very similar way and I was able to see similar patterns in how we operate. Something that I found kind of funny is how similar we looked at a young age, in my opinion. Also, my mom looks somewhat similar to your mom. It’s creepy, but also funny. I know it must have been hard to put your life out there for everyone to see. Your videos and your writing have helped me see that I can be happily gay. I still find it hard to be okay with being gay and dealing with people around me, but you make me believe that it is possible to be content with my sexuality. Sexuality aside, I found the honest discussion about depression, going to a psychologist, and dealing with family issues sobering. I have always grown up thinking that you have to hide everything, but I have recently been going to a counselor. I should have done it years ago, but it is better late than never. After reading your book, I started to see how things in my childhood actually affected me, and now I am looking forward to talking to my counselor about it. I actually started writing my own book a couple of years ago just as an emotional outlet. Maybe one day, if I ever get my book published, it will help someone, just like your book helped me. I can’t even put into words how much you have helped me in my life and how many times your videos have made me laugh. No matter how shitty people treat you, whether it be subscribers that are too nosey, or people in your life, please know that there are many people that appreciate you as a person. I love that you have put your life out in public for people to see, but also respect that you are still a normal person that needs their privacy. I don’t even know what I am saying anymore. Just know that if it wasn’t for you and other people like you, I don’t know where I would be at in my life. Your funny videos kept me laughing, but your personal stories make me feel not so alone. For that, I am forever grateful. Love, Emily Means.
