Here's why you don't take stormlight character ages seriously until you do math.
Book 1 says Kaladin is 19 during his arrival in the bridge crews. A Rosharan year is 500 days. So during Book 1, Kaladin has been alive for at least 9500 days.
Thats 26 years in Earth time.
It goes like this for every character, by the way. In Earth years, Shallan is 19, Dalinar is 68, Szeth is 41, Venli is 21.
Adolin is 27, Renarin is 23, Jasnah is 40, Lift is 16 this one is funny to me because Lift is written in a way that makes me think 12. (Loving the preview chapters by the way, first character in the Cosmere to use a real swear, Lift said shit.)
Now of course the younger a character is the less dramatic the difference in earth years will be. When the book says Oroden is 2 and Gavinor is 5... yeah, the math says Gavinor is about to turn 7 and Oroden is still 2. But when the book says Taravangian is in his 70s, without specifying the exact year. That means he's AT LEAST 95. Makes all the fussing about his age and frailty make a lot more sense, doesn't it?
All very good math, but have you taken into account that each Rosharan day is only about 20 earth hours?
My needling aside, that is very good math for getting a better sense of where everyone is. A lot of them still need to chill, sheesh.
