When I was in elementary school I kept trying to make clubs with my friends (pokemon club, wolf club, warriors club), but the teachers always shut them down because they were exclusionary. That if we couldn't include everyone then we weren't allowed to have it.

Or if my friends and I were playing pretend we'd always have a specific vision in mind and all our characters had full backstories. Very high concept for a ten year old. It was something for only us because we only planned around us being there. If someone wanted to join in, we would politely decline because they weren't there when we started and it would take too long to get them caught up. (Again, we were grade schoolers playing at recess and after school programs. The time was limited to us.)

Naturally, they'd get upset and grab a teacher and we'd be told if we can't include everyone then we shouldn't be playing that game.

I think perhaps we should teach kids that sometimes things are not made for them and that's okay. Not everything has to include everyone and that's okay. Teaching to be accepting and inclusive is great, and I'm not saying that that should stop. What I am saying is that sometimes you're gonna encounter something that isn't for you and that's okay. I think the sooner we introduce that idea the better.

Leelah Alcorn was a trans girl, a teenager, who sadly committed suicide nearly 10 years ago. I'm happy that her comic touches the hearts of so many people, years after her death.

I saved screenshots of her blog and last message to the world. Her parents had a lot of control over how she was perceived after her death, but it was also to prevent deletion by Tumblr itself. Even back then, Tumblr has been shadow banning trans women on this platform.

My heart goes out to all trans women who are struggling with society's expectations of who they are supposed to be and who they are allowed to be. May you find peace, growth, and respite from whatever you're going through. You deserve happiness, most of all. Thank you for living, thank you for being here with us.
