I need that juicy fic written in the 90s and early 00s, the shit that was later contradicted by the show, fics people were thrilled to write the minute after an episode aired!!! where the heck is it all hidden??

HMMMMMM. I have never been in the ER fandom, so I don't know where specifically to look, but--because I have been Chronically Online Since the 90s--here's some options to check:

If you have a ship you like specifically, try plugging it into Google. Google is pretty shit as a search engine anymore, but it's still kind of difficult for them to monetize "blorbo/blorbo" from 1997.

Livejournal. It may not have been big, but in its heyday Livejournal was where most of fandom was, and a lot of the communities are still around--dead in terms of activity, but still on the internets. I have no idea if any still exist, and LJ's search function has gotten progressively shittier in the last five years, but I'd try it.

The Wayback Machine. If you've got a link to a dead site, or a domain name but no specific URLs, try the Wayback. I once found a Star Trek: DS9 semi-regular webzine from the late 90s/very early 00s just by searching for a specific set of terms. Domain names are best but if you've got a website name, that's good. With ER fic--since the setting is basically like the real world--you'd probably want to stick with ship names or specific terms you know are heavily connected to the fandom, since "ER" is going to turn up a LOT of unrelated results, even if you narrow it down in terms of the dates.

For fic--well, I know everyone makes fun, but have you tried Fanfiction.net? It's a punchline for a lot of reasons, but it's also got a LOT of older, much-less-popular fandoms archived there, and it would really shock me if ER isn't one of them. Obviously I'm not going to promise anything in terms of the quality, but you should be able to find something.

You might also try Squidgeworld.org--it used to be the Wonderful World of Make Believe, which was around for a long time under that name. And my best suggestion for both FFN and Squidge is to pay attention to any author's notes, because sometimes websites or webrings or LJ/IJ/GJ communities got mentioned that you might not have found otherwise.

If YahooGroups were still around, I'd suggest mailing lists, too.

*There's like, 5,000 fics for it on FFN. It's FFN so no promises as to the quality.

Also, a little out of left-field, but you might also try TV Tropes--if they have a fic page then you might find some fic recommended there.

Welcome to the ER Fandom! :)

Considering ER's final episode aired 2nd April 2009 and Ao3 was created on 14th November 2009, it's not surprising it's missing a lot of the OG fanfic (though plenty of it has been posted to Ao3).

I do highly recommend lots of the ER fics on Ao3, though I do agree there is something oh so delicious about reading the fics written before much of canon existed. Fortunately for you, I did a deep dive into all the old fandom/fanfic specific websites for ER when I joined the fandom, so hope you can enjoy some of these sites that were the hubs of ER fic during it's run. Some are massive archives, others are smaller archives or personal sites.
