This is my cat, Brigitte.
24 hours after I brought her home, I got a mindblowing job offer. Since I adopted her nine years ago, my life has become an amusement park. She has brought me good luck ever since I took her into my home.
I’m telling you, there’s something about this animal. Good fortune follows her everywhere.
I don’t want to be selfish. I have everything I need and then some. So, I’m sharing her with you.
Reblog Brigitte and you’ll receive fantastic news in the next 24 hours.
And when you do, please remember to help your local SPCA and support them in the difficult work they do for wonder animals like Brigitte. Any donation helps your SPCA, even if it’s just five bucks.
Kitties like Brigitte are counting on you to give back when they bring you good luck.
Thanks, and congratulations on your good news!
we out here spreading those Lucky Cat Vibes™®
everything can be magical if you let it be. i remember the first time seeing red-winged blackbirds i was just…enthralled. i watched them for maybe an hour. i thought they made the sweetest noises and were just so pretty. and i found out later on that people consider them nuisances and pests. they’re literally common all over the united states but because they weren’t familiar to me they weren’t a burden or an annoyance but something beautiful. if we don’t let other people tell us how to feel about things, maybe we can just like things for what they are
this is a hotter, deeper take than i ever expected to see from this blog, but you’re so fucking right and i think this is a good ass post and a sentiment everyone should at least think about
Don’t forget that what the U.S. is doing matches the U.N.’s description of a genocidal act. -V
Keep in mind, Amazon workers rely on food stamps while Amazon posts record profits.
a girl i know told me how a guy she knows once moved out from his parents, ate nothing but fries and meatballs for HALF A YEAR, and got scurvy. imagine the doctor’s face when this guy shows up with like his gums bleeding and the doc has to fucking say DUDE…. THATS SCURVY…. in this day and age
this is turning into a “how a person i know got scurvy” thread and im so here for this, please share your scurvy stories if you have any
the other day someone posted pics from the reddit page r/zerocarbs where these fools only ate meat and 0 vegetables or fruits and all the posts were about various symptoms of scurvy. i died when one literally read ‘i don’t want to start the vitamin C debate again but’
THE VITAMIN C DEBATE
My mother told me all about scurvy when I was five and trying to resist eating pumpkin and let me tell you it’s been 35 years and I still get nervous if I go for two days without eating a green vegetable.
I told my own little picky eater about scurvy, rickets etc and now one of her most frequently requested lunch items is baby spinach, closely followed by carrots.
I’m not saying everyone should mildly traumatize their children to make them understand that vegetables are vital to ongoing possession of your teeth and organs, but.. no, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Go for it.
some guys i used to know went on a boys only road trip. they decided they were only going to eat things they could cook on the engine block of the car.
two of them got scurvy. one of them drank so much jagermeister + red bull that he temporarily lost the ability to see in colour.
im sorry he what now
Take your veggies, some herbs and spices, and a bit of olive oil to coat. Wrap it up in tin foil and put it next to the meat on the engine block. That’ll do ya.
the whole “i used to be a teen who hated authority only to grow up to become the authority that hates teens” is a bad bad thing that practically every other generation has fallen into and we all need to make an extremely conscious effort not to repeat the fucking pattern
Studies have shown that the shift starts to happen around age 30. If you’re close to that, make a conscious effort to be open to and accepting of younger people. I’m 31 and paying close attention to how I react to young people and new trends and shit and trying to keep myself from developing those thought patterns.
noted
I’m so glad I’m the opposite of the norm. I was a self-hating teen and as I’ve approached 30 I’ve flipped to loving teenagers. Teens are amazing. Teens in the U.S. right now are facing completely unaffordable education and a climate apocalypse and are dealing with a shitty primary education system that is trying to teach them to be obedient workers over all else and is getting worse every year with that standardized testing bullshit and they’re still out there doing incredible work, creating art, making some of the funniest fucking videos and memes I’ve ever seen and if anyone wants to attack teens for being born later than they were prepare to fight.
Do not punish the behaviour you want to see
I mean, it seems pretty obvious when you put it like that, right?
But how many families, when an introvert sibling or child makes an effort to socialize, snarkily say, “So, you’ve decided to join us”?
Or when someone does something they’ve had trouble doing, say, “Why can’t you do that all the time?” (Happened to me, too often.)
Or any sentence containing the word “finally”.
If someone makes a step, a small step, in a direction you want to encourage, encourage it. Don’t complain about how it’s not enough. Don’t bring up previous stuff. Encourage it.
Because I swear to fucking god there is nothing more soul-killing, more motivation-crushing, than struggling to succeed and finding out that success and failure are both punished.
what they say: cats are evil and unable to love
what they mean: i dont know how to handle small animals and consider them lashing out in SELF DEFENSE an insult
Usually what it boils down to is “I’m mad because the cat didn’t act like a dog”.
Pushing fragile things off tables and breaking them: Self defense.
Destroying Christmas Trees: Self defense, I mean the tree attacked them.
Scratching their owner’s eyeball: Self defense.
Scratching their sleeping owner’s face: Self defense.
Jumping on their owner’s back and clawing into their spine: Self defense.
Admittedly yeah
A dog doesn’t do those things because a dog’s version of self defense is to be a good animal who loves you and doesn’t attack you unless you attack them first.
I mean if a cat feels that threatened by everything in their owner’s household maybe the owner shouldn’t have gotten a cat.
Pushing fragile things off tables and breaking them: Playing. Cats are well-known to like to play with small objects. Your cat does not know what “fragile” means and does not understand the distinction between toy and not-toy objects. Place fragile things out of a cat’s line of sight and reach, and if you don’t provide them with enough enrichment items that they go looking for them, that’s on you.
Destroying Christmas Trees: Cats like to climb things. They’re not doing it to spite you.
Scratching their owner’s eyeball: Probably an accident, due to overstimulation when playing. It wasn’t trying to hurt you. Don’t anthropomorphize animals by attributing spite to them. Animals don’t do spite the way that humans do.
Scratching their sleeping owner’s face: Trying to rouse you with its paw, probably gently, because it loves you and wants to play with you.
Jumping on their owner’s back and clawing into their spine: Come on. If a cat is jumping on you, it loves you and wants to be close to you. Digging in with its claws is how it balances itself on an unstable surface and is purely a reflexive reaction. It isn’t intending to hurt you.
99% of cat behavioral problems stem from bored cats. Cats need to climb, need to scratch, and need small objects to play with. I only recommend adopting cats in pairs, so that they can keep each other entertained. Cats are not purely solitary. They get lonely, and lonely cats act out. Once again, your entire problem with cats as a species seems to stem from the fact that you don’t understand how cats express affection and it upsets you that they don’t do so the way that dogs do. Cats aren’t small dogs and cannot be expected to behave as such.
FELINE PROTECTION SQUAD
Dogs will also destroy shit IF YOU DON’T KEEP THEM PROPERLY STIMULATED.
The smarter the dog, the more destructive they tend to be when bored. So, don’t give me that shit of “dogs don’t do that.”
There is a reason it is a cultural touchstone that dogs chew up shoes or eat homework.
Also, dogs bite/snap in self-defense. Those teeth aren’t just for show.
So, yeah, don’t paint dogs as perfect obedient angels.
They’re animals just like cats and will act accordingly.
My dog has the habit of using his mouth like a hand, so when he wants me to pet him, he will jump and try to bite my hand to bring it down to his level so I can do it and, guess what, sometimes he hurts and scratches me by accident! The poor creature is not evil because it can hurt you on accident! He is a very good boy and so are most cats… the other cats are very good girls…
Also, if your cat’s claws are causing pain when they’re just pawing at you, they probably need to be trimmed.
Ohh shit
consider this- this means football players are so overpaid they make in one year what an average worker will make in their entire life, and they still arent making enough to hit this bracket and yet opponents to this will still try and pitch that its going to hurt them by taking too much from ‘the working man’
Pretend, for a moment, that you’re an 18-year-old teenager from a family living below the poverty line. One day, you make a silly mistake and get a ticket for it. Nothing major - maybe you rode the subway without a ticket or smoked too close to the entrance of a building. Maybe you were loitering. Either way, one thing is for sure: you definitely don’t have the money to pay the ticket. So you don’t. Eventually, you miss the deadline to pay your ticket, and you get a letter in the mail that says you have to go to court. But your life is chaotic, and a court date for a missed ticket is the least of your concerns. Your family moves constantly, which disrupts your life and puts you behind in school. You have one disabled parent and one parent who is always working, leaving you to raise your younger siblings by yourself. You have no means of transportation. There is rarely any food in the cupboards. The utilities are constantly getting shut off. The week that you were supposed to go to court, your family gets another eviction notice, your cousin ends up in the hospital, and your parent finds out that their disability payments are being reduced. So you miss your court date. Since you missed the court date, you automatically lose your case - now you have no hope of arguing your way out of the ticket, which you still can’t afford to pay. You can do community service hours instead of paying, but you don’t have time to do that, now that you have to work part-time and odd jobs on top of everything else to keep your parents off the streets and your siblings out of foster care. You know that you probably won’t finish high school on time, let alone fulfill your hours. You might be able to explain your circumstances to the judge, but you have no idea how to go about doing that now that you’ve missed your court date, your literacy skills are years behind thanks to your constant game of school roulette, and even though legal help is available to you, you don’t know how to access it or if you can afford to do so. But that’s still the least of your concerns - since you missed your court date, the judge has also charged you with failure to appear.
Which means you now have an active warrant out for your arrest. And just like that, you’re now a part of the criminal justice system. A silly mistake that a middle-class teenager could have solved with Mommy and Daddy’s chequebook in a single afternoon has caused you weeks or months of stress and headaches over a process you don’t fully understand, and has ended in criminal charges. Instead of having a funny story to tell over dinner when you come home from college next Thanksgiving, you are now facing additional fines (that you still can’t pay), the possibility of a couple of nights in jail, the possible suspension of your driver’s license, and the possibility of being taken into custody any time you interact with the police. The next time your parent comes home drunk and violent, or someone breaks into the house, you think twice about calling the cops - you now have to decide if every emergency is “worth” the possibility of being hauled off to jail. And in the meantime, the circumstances that caused that first mistake haven’t gone away - you still don’t have the money to pay for the subway, you are still more likely to live in a house filled with smokers, you still can’t afford quit-smoking aids, you still live in a chaotic household that deeply affects your mental health, and you still don’t understand the legal system or who you’re supposed to talk to for information and resources. So while those other teenagers get to go through life believing that they were “good kids who sometimes made silly mistakes”, you now get to go through life thinking of yourself as a criminal. And that might be the most damaging thing of all.
When I worked with homeless teenagers and young adults, I saw this process play out again and again and again and again. The kids often considered themselves “criminals” or “bad kids” because they had arrest warrants and criminal records, but few of them had ever actually committed a serious or violent crime - the vast majority were simply unlucky kids who did something stupid and didn’t have the skills or resources (or wealthy parents) required to get them off the hook. I had classmates in my upper-middle-class high school who did far worse things with far fewer consequences, because Mommy was a lawyer or Daddy was an RCMP officer, and some of those kids grew up to be lawyers or police officers themselves. The kids I worked with never got that opportunity. Second chances cost money, and the difference between a “crime” and a “mistake” has less to do with the offense, and more to do with the circumstances you were born into.
So when we’re talking about crime, punishment and who is “worthy” of being helped, maybe keep that in mind.

Please keep boosting this, free knowledge is so important people.
Police officers claim that there’s a war against them.
They’re always saying that they have a tough and dangerous job. They’re always saying that society is full of people who are out to get them. They’re always saying that a police officer’s life can be ruined by a false accusation of brutality.
But if that were true, they’d be begging to be filmed. If the police were always filmed, people would see how dangerous it is to be a police officer. Police officers would be able to defend themselves against thugs who try to kill them, because the video would prove that it’s self defense and not police brutality. Anytime a police officer is wrongly accused of brutality, they’d be able to immediately disprove the accusation.
But that’s not what happens. Police officers protest against being required to wear cameras. Police officers threaten people who film them.
Clearly, there’s no war against police officers. Police officers want people to not know what actually happens. Police officers know that in the absence of video evidence, a police officer’s word will be taken as fact. They’re just afraid of being held accountable for once.
Scalding
I know we’re having a good time laughing it up at Bezos possibly losing half of his money in his divorce but please let’s stop and take a moment to realize that losing 67 billion dollars will have absolutely no impact on his quality of life, which makes for a rudimentary but functional litmus test for determining whether or not someone has too much fucking money
also his ex-wife isn’t going to do anything with that money but hoard it as well
there is nothing inherently more ethical about a female billionaire
Wouldn’t it be amazing if she’s actually pulling a Robin Hood here and “stealing” from the rich to give to the poor? How awesome would that be?
I totally understand the impulse to try to be hopeful about that, but it’s a fantasy that comes from the same place as acting like Melania needs to be saved or treating Ivanka as a moderating influence on her father
rich white women are loyal to money and we cannot trust them on the basis of gender. they’re not anyone’s allies but their own.
They really don’t know what to do with her
