im super super into the whole messianic image surrounding ardyn, especially in those two concept arts- you know that ones i’m talking about. i just. love it sm. i love that he was supposed to be this chosen savior, that he healed people from the scourge at the cost of his own body and then was ostracized because of it, rejected by the gods, and that his compassion and good intentions curdled into resentment

he probably saw it as an advantage, at first: immorality gave him more time to plot his revenge, a better chance to see it through. eventually though, after decades and decades of watching those around him grow old and die- even people he neither knew nor liked- he grew weary of it. it was unnatural, what he was, a sign of the hexatheon’s wrath, and though he had at first intended to use it against them, to plot their downfall and the destruction of the line of lucis, eventually he just got… tired, of everything. 

eventually, his purpose became less about revenge and more about dying. he started caring less and less about the astrals, about the lucian kings- and more about resting. about stopping for once, about things coming to an end.
