The pain of Loss, The Joy of Resurrection.
Harry saw the look of mingled fear and surprise on his godfather’s wasted, once handsome face as he fell through the ancient doorway and disappeared behind the veil, which fluttered for a moment as though in a high wind, then fell back into place.
Harry heard Bellatrix Lestrange’s triumphant scream, but he knew it meant nothing- Sirius had only fallen through the archway, he would reappear from the other side any second..
And he did. His cocky smile placed perfectly on his face and he stumbled back through.
‘You have to try harder than that, o cousin dear.’ He grinned. Bellatrix let out a cold cry of fury before turning to sprint out the room. She wouldn’t get away again, not like this, so Harry turned on his heel and sprinted after her.
• Sirius Black not dying in the Department of Mysteries. Instead he lives, Voldemort is exposed and his name is cleared. His time on the run is over and now he can really, truly, begin to heal.
• Sirius Black buying a new house for him and Remus, one to call home. He keeps Grimmauld Place, but only for the Order to use as headquarters. This new home is a small house in the countryside just outside a muggle village, him and Remus are very comfortable there and so is Harry.
• Sirius Black downright refusing to allow Harry to stay at the Dursley’s for more than one night before dragging him away, especially after all he had been through that year. Harry beyond happy with his new bedroom, that Sirius and Remus had taken extra care in designing for a teenage boy. “ No Sirius, Harry cannot have a draw of ‘mischief items’ are you trying to get us killed?!” “Well you got to give him a shelf of interesting textbooks, as if he is gonna read that stuff!”
• Sirius Black promising Harry his room would still be here when they sent him off to spend the remaining three weeks of his summer with the Weasley’s, and that he would come back for Christmas.
• Sirius Black and Remus Lupin working through 12 years of love. building back that trust and connection they had all that time ago.
• Sirius Black having nightmares about Azkaban and being trapped back at number 12, only to be comforted by Remus at night with a cuddle and whispers of solace .
• Sirius Black personally brewing and buying Wolfsbane potion for Remus and his transformations, saying he would easily spend 10x more just to ease his pain in any way.
• Sirius Black and Remus Lupin going to the Weasley’s with Harry for Christmas enjoying themselves immensely whilst looking fondly at Molly and Arthur and their big happy family.
• Sirius Black hearing about Harry’s obsession with Draco and laughing with Remus about it. “James will be groaning away up there, both his brothers and his son are gayer than can be!”
• Sirius Black hearing Harry’s real concerns about Draco and frowning with Remus, letting harry voice his feelings and thinking of Regulus and how young he was.
• Sirius Black and Remus Lupin talking one day at the table about how wonderful the children of this generation are and how hard this must be for them.
• Sirius Black and Remus Lupin rushing as fast as they could to Harry and Hogwart’s aid when they hear.
• Sirius Black holding Harry when they see Dumbledore’s body and screaming at the rest of the Order with Remus standing solemnly by his side when the hear of Snapes betrayal.
• Sirius Black growing more and more worried about the war he is in after Moodys death and how powerful Voldemort is becoming. Just like before.
• Sirius Black not understanding at all why Harry refuses to go back to Hogwarts next year, why he insists Dumbledore gave him a job to do. Sirius fighting with Harry about this many times.
• Sirius Black, Remus and Harry all attending Bill and Fleur’s wedding together, where the Death Eaters attack and Harry leaves with Ron and Hermione. Sirius is distraught and Remus blaming Sirius and quickly vanishing on his own to try and find them again.
• Sirius Black being conflicted when Remus returns saying that Harry is safe but won’t come home until he has done what Dumbledore asked him. He is upset but just happy that the two people he loves most in the world are safe.
• Sirius Black that night talking with Remus about what a great person Harry has grown up to be, how strong he is and how proud James and Lily would be of their son. Sirius Black and Remus Lupin realising at that moment what they had both known for a while. They wanted a child of their own.
• Sirius Black and Remus approaching their good friend from the Order, Nymphodora Tonks, to see is she would be open to being their surrogate.
• Sirius Black being over the moon when she says that of course she would, providing she could be a part of the child’s life, Remus laughing and saying that he and Sirius would love that. Sirius just sat there beaming.
• Sirius Black and Remus being so happy, but also so worried about Harry and his safety.
• Sirius Black having the best day of his life when Teddy Lupin (Sirius refused to pass on his surname) is born on April 16th 1998 and laughing when he sees he has inherited his mother’s abilities. He only wished at least one Potter could have been by his side when it happened.
• Sirius Black rushing once again to Harry’s aid without a second thought. To the Battle of Hogwarts. Fighting with Remus by his side once again and feeling the energy of the Battle. Feeling destroyed as he stared at the body of Teddy’s mother lying on the floor and vowing to anyone who would listen that his son would grow up knowing what and incredible woman she was, feeling despair that she would never be a part of his life like he had promised.
• Sirius Black feeling like he was dying in Azkaban all over again when he saw Harry being carried by Hagrid, and feeling weightless when Harry rose again.
• Sirius Black seeing the murderer of his best friends, the destroyer of Harry’s life and the true meaning of evil finally defeated. For the first time in 20 years knowing everything was going to be okay again.
• Sirius Black not dying in the Department of Mysteries but going on to be a happy and fulfilled man. Being in love with his werewolf, James’ son and his own. Sirius Black growing old with his family and friends around him and after many, many years of joy, finally leaving this world to go see Prongs.
