I do enjoy when a very old classic Tumblr post (like literally a decade old at this point) comes across my Dash and I click on OP's account and their last post was like, 30 minutes ago.
(Getting swindled by a genie) it’s like talking to a fucking tumblr user with you
the genie: how dare you say I'm fucking a tumblr user
The key to writing good fanfiction is to harbor a deeply humiliating desire, and the trick there is that even pretty basic and societally-accepted desires like “being held” and “being wanted” CAN and WILL be humiliating if they’re intense enough. Become so estranged from human connection that the idea of someone playing with your hair fills you with yearning so deep you feel like you’re going to throw up and you will write some banger fanfiction. It might have some other consequences too but idrk about that.
Indigenous lands are crucial for climate mitigation and resilience. Research shows their health is a direct result of Indigenous stewardship
While this isn't news to anyone who works in this space, it is useful to have this water-is-wet research to affirm that Indigenous knowledge and land management are extremely effective at storing carbon and protecting biodiversity.
I want to draw special attention to this part of the article:
New research shows that approach overlooks the key role that Indigenous knowledge and culture can play in mitigating climate change. It also reveals a dangerous misconception that has taken hold in global climate discussions: the idea that Indigenous lands are so rich because they are remote or sparsely populated. Nothing could be further from the truth. The health of Indigenous lands and their ability to store vast quantities of carbon stem from the stewardship of the people who inhabit them.
I'm actually bringing this back around to say another important thing.
I get a fair number of asks and comments on my posts expressing sentiments like "human beings are a plague on this Earth", "humans ruin everything, we deserve to be wiped out", "humanity is inherently selfish, evil, and irredeemable".
I don't think the folks saying these things have bad intentions, I know their words come from a place of very understandable pain, fear, and anger. But to act as though humanity's impact on nature is inherently damaging and extractive is to erase thousands of years of Indigenous stewardship of nature. These ecosystems are thriving because there are humans living there.
This is your regular reminder that you don't need to feel guilty for being a human. You are part of nature--viewing humans as inherently separate from the rest of nature is actually part of the problem. You will be so much better served redirecting that guilt into supporting the humans who are helping nature or resisting those who are hurting it.
just finished this month's book club book, went skimming goodreads reviews afterwards as you do, got my breath taken away by this absolutely brutal ending to one of the multi-paragraph 1 star reviews
the concept of vocaloid fans being so insanely racist towards one of the most exciting up and coming underground rappers that the very talented producer behind fujo miku and mikumiku beam revealed that he’s black
anyways, go stream Slayr and Sawtowne
not many people know this but when talking about your multiple pronoun-using friend you build up a combo meter for every subsequent unique pronoun you use
As someone who uses multiple pronouns I can confirm this is true
Too many people on Tumblr never moved past their edgy highschool reverse misogyny phase and now are on here saying the same things there dad says about women but about trans men, intersex men, black and brown men, and disabled men, but thinking there being cool and progressive not just like... an asshole
A lot of people have interpreted this post as being about trans fems who use incel terms to describe trans mascs and while that is unfortunately a problem with some (very few) trans fems.
I was originally talking about cis queer women who use the language misogynists use but think swapping the genders makes it woke. Example: a cis woman who grew up being told that women are stupid, weak, useless, ect and when she was like 16 decided to flip the gender but repeat the same bio/gender essentialism ideas that all people of one gender or sex are monolithically one bad thing. But then because we live in the world we live in her words and actions never actually hurt the pericis white men with the most power in society instead only ever causing harm to marginalized people who are men, especially people who's masculinity is connected to why they are marginalized (trans mascs) she now we have a cis women saying trans men are stupid and evil because they are men. I've seen several white cis het and cis queer women saying the exact same things that would be said about a man by people who think he's a delusional girl but they want to pretend they are being super feminist because they said HE is a stupid bitch who doesn't deserve human rights.
I keep hearing cis queer women in queer spaces say shit like "well he's trans but he is a man so.... (He's stupid, violent, emotionally stunted, ect) So many trans mascs get pushed out of queer spaces when we start to pass too much because no one wants to unlearn gender essentialism they'd rather just swap the evil gender to men
Being a kind and caring person isnt a “feminine trait” dont fucking piss me off
literally the worst way of ending a series is “all the survivors are happily straight married with tons and tons of babies!”
people still getting mad at this post i made in 2014 so I will add here. in 2026. that the point of this post isn’t “happy endings bad” its when the story’s only way to imagine a happy ending is a heterosexual nuclear family for everyone.
Demons and monsters that torture people because they feed on human suffering are so dumb. People are suffering everywhere my guy go literally any place and take a deep whiff.
Monster that feeds on suffering becomes a professional caretaker for people with chronic pain and terminal illnesses. They can't change the fact that these people are suffering, but they help a bit and in the meantime they're fat and happy off that Sweet Sweet ambient pain in the air.
Two towns over there's a demon lord trying to get their cult to abduct people for torture, but they keep getting stopped by heroes and the like, so they're barely scraping by. Meanwhile Belogarth the Registered PCA is chowing down on back pain, medication side effects and looming mortality for eight hours a day and has become the most powerful demon on earth without realizing it.
"But don't their clients feel weird knowing that they're feeding off their suffering?" No they think it's hilarious and they're real shits about it.
Finally a medical professional who believes that they are in pain. Because the fucker is actively chowing down on your agony. Not only am I going to get treated by them I'm going to invite all of my chronically ill friends to come as well.
Turns out if you treat the pain then the humans will bring you more humans who are suffering. It's like a restaurant where the waiter is so impressed by your ability to eat food they're giving you more on the house
They say things like "well, it's a real feast day for Belogarth today!" and "if my meds are held up at customs again I'm gonna put Belogarth in a food coma" and Belogarth is the one feeling weird about it
when the character is obsessive and desperate and guilty and scared and ashamed and traumatized and repressed
