as much as it is important to emphasise that children are the primary targets of the violence of online age gating and sanitisation, i wouldn't be too dismissive of the data harvesting and surveillance concerns that it raises as well. like app & social media data being handed over to US and EU national security to track the movements of immigrants or people seeking abortions/medical care is something that's already been happening as far as I'm aware, i wouldn't be surprised if discord becomes a part of that too. and considering that they're making these changes under no transparent legal requirements, that could be part of their motive to do it now of all times (though i'm in no position of expertise to know how likely that is). it's probably best to keep in mind that many people will be doubly marginalised by such changes
