Hey y8ay8a; bit late but hope you're doing better after the drinking. Um, Just wanted to re-ask my question on Weiss and Sun. To be honest, I'm a bit surprised. Not to mention interested as to why you ship them together.
Itās ok! hereās me a bit late answering because I knew itād be a long post and I had to find the time to sit down and write it :ā)Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I ship it because Iām not one to pretend Iām not seeing that the showāstelling me something. I think a lot of people conveniently ignore a lot ofthings about both Weiss and Sun by shipping them with other characters while thisis a ship that, to me, is end-game because it seems like natural progressionfor both characters. And to explain why I think soā¦ Iāll need to divide this in3 parts lol. The big pictureFirst, putting aside the fact that I ship bumbleby, I think itād be a bad moveto have the two most prominent faunus on the show to be together. I donāt believeCRWBY would make acceptance and equality for faunus such a major point on theshow only to still segregate the characters by race when it comes to finding asignificant other. Moreover, to drive in their point and to show major progressand change, Weiss is the definite choice to end up with a faunus SO. It showshow far sheās come, itās symbolic of the progress the world is making too. Itmakes sense from a narrative point of view. Especially sinceā¦ from a narrative point of view, these two already have some establisheddynamic since V1. Weissās quote āIām still not sure how I feel about youā isdripping foreshadowing if you ask me. Sheās also the one who reacted when Sun, climbingup to their dorm window, said āI do it all the timeā. So can I take a momenthere to highlight that theyāve had more interactions in the few scenes that theywere together that Ruby and Blake had on the whole show? And that, besidesNeptune, Sun is the only male her own age that she has addressed of her ownvolition?Speaking of Neptune, heās a red herring.Heās there for two reasons imo: 1) to show how shallow Weiss is at first. How she goes for what is looks only.Weāre shown (in retrospect) that Neptuneās look is basically Atlas fashion; itāsnot a coincidence the Marigold guy at the benefit party had such similar looks.I think itās likely pre-V1 Weiss likely wouldnāt have turned Marigold down andthat she does so in V4 is telling of her growth. Weiss has grown past theshallowness that had her interested in Neptune. 2) to take our attention away from seeing the end-game ship right away. Weissis interested in Neptune and Sun in Blake. Both of them for superficial and/ormisguided reasons. As they both grow and mature, I believe they will move awayfrom what 17-18 year old selvesā opinions and naturally be drawn to each other.WeissTwo of the biggest ships we see for Weiss are White Rose and Monochrome. Both sortof make a point with what Weiss seems to need in a partner and what would berelevant story-wise for her development as a character. However to me, neitherships make sense in thatā¦ well first, both seem to enjoy absolutely disregardingthat Weiss has been portrayed as straight, or at least predominantly interestedin males. Second, both of those ships are an incomplete portrait if we considerboth what Weiss responds well to and what makes sense for her path in the bigpicture. Piecing all that togetherā¦ we do have a male character who is cheerful,outgoing (what WR argue for) and afaunus (what Monos argue for). Letās not forget, Sun falls very much in line withher rebelling against this higher society sheās now got so much disdain for,not only because heās a faunus, but also because heās aā¦ rapscallion, per her own terms. I think weāve been shown that heās the type of person she needs around her, andending up with him makes sense plot-wise. ā¦And as a side note, how funny is it that Weiss is a stowaway on that airship?Donāt tell me thatās not done on purpose. Ā SunAs we all know, his main ship is Black Sun. Iāve made a point up there of what badtaste itād be to for him to be in a faunus/faunus relationship. So aside fromthat, which is a writing point of view, if we look at the characters themselvesā¦Basically Sun likes the idea of Blake,he likes the person believes she isā¦ the one who goes on a one-woman rampageagainst the White Fang and gets revenge for her friends. The brazen defiance andsense of dutyā¦. Thatās only his interpretationof Blake. What he thinks he likes about Blake is actually not who she is.But. Those are traits we have seen Weiss display. When she made a bet with herfather to earn the right to go to Beacon instead of Atlas and won. When shecaused a scene and called everyone out bullshit priorities at that gala in V4. Howher very sense of duty is her entire motivation to becoming a Huntress at all.Those are large displays of this, but she keeps showing us how upfront and headstrongshe is in smaller moments too, stuff like calling Blake out on not sleeping anddemanding for her to share what wason her mind.Basically, from what I understandā¦ the person Sun thinks Blake is, the personhe likes, is in fact closer to who Weiss is. Also their color schemes together please me, but thatās just my own bias. Colorschemes have been a big thing on RWBY up until now. Ā And uh. I canāt really be bothered to review it, so I really hope Iām making sense. :)
