one of the core principles of woe.begone is that there will never be a 'pure' version of you unaltered by the events of your life. every experience you go through sends your life down a different track and there is no merit in erasing or redoing traumatic/life-changing events. the only version of yourself you'll ever have is the current version of yourself, and you'll have to see to preserving yourself going forward.
the other core principle of woe.begone is that mike walters is a little dogy,
Vignettes Master Post
Whomst? Hey, Tumblr! My name is Lea Lawson (@leals3), and I'm the creator of Vignettes! I Neil Breen'd this project and did all the things (save for the soundtrack I sourced from Tim Kulig, the open+close themes by Maria Damianou & myself, and the seven episode artworks are also by Maria!)
What is Vignettes?
It's a fully improvised short form audio drama! You read right, I wrote out loud and just had to trust that I'd find my way through each story
You'll get dropped into a situation (or an about-to-be-situation) and get to decide if the episode's char is a reliable narrator
You don't need to know any backstory to jump into any of these! That said, maybe read each episode's show notes before hitting play for CWs if you have certain triggers ā episodes can be intense at times and I made these feeling grief so pls take care x
You're gonna fill in the blanks because I voice one character per episode and I don't give you context. Wait, was that char being literal or figurative? Wait, who are they talking to? Wait, did they survive?? Woah, is your theory about x episode different than your friend's?Ā Maybe drawing your own conclusions is fun :)
The story part of the episodes only run sixish minutes, and with theme/credits only eight to nine mins long ā bite sized audio, hooray! You have under ten minutes to spare, yeah?
I've solo'd this so it could be fun hearing what nonsense flew out of my mouth?
There are seven episodes to this show, and the total runtime is 59 mins so TBH this is very bingeable!
It's not just my voice, you'll also be treated to a full score and SFX!
Finally, it's my first time with full creative control of anything, and made this on a wing and a prayer. It's a little rough - but the point was the journey: raw and imperfect
Whenst? (I know that's not a word. Just let me do the bit). All episodes are out now! ^_^

Why? Why not? It kind of just happened. For real though see the website for more info :) Thanks for dropping by. Please share the show if you liked it, and I'll undoubtedly see you 'round the AD world!
Anyone know of any small discord servers for sci-fi writers? I want to join and share my work/ see other peopleās work, but all the ones Iāve tried joining are so big and I donāt like it. I just want to interact with a handful of other people writing soft sci-fi and canāt find the right space! šµ

And all of this at once.
āAfter learning my flight was detained 4 hours, I heard the announcement: if anyone in the vicinity of gate 4-A understands any Arabic, please come to the gate immediately. Wellāone pauses these days. Gate 4-A was my own gate. I went there. An older woman in full traditional Palestinian dress, just like my grandma wore, was crumpled to the floor, wailing loudly. Help, said the flight service person. Talk to her. What is her problem? We told her the flight was going to be four hours late and she did this. I put my arm around her and spoke to her haltingly. Shu dow-a, shu-biduck habibti, stani stani schway, min fadlick, sho bit se-wee? The minute she heard any words she knewāhowever poorly usedāshe stopped crying. She thought our flight had been canceled entirely. She needed to be in El Paso for some major medical treatment the following day. I said no, no, weāre fine, youāll get there, just late. Who is picking you up? Letās call him and tell him. We called her son and I spoke with him in English. I told him I would stay with his mother until we got on the plane and would ride next to herāSouthwest. She talked to him. Then we called her other sons just for the fun of it. Then we called my dad and he and she spoke for a while in Arabic and found out, of course, they had ten shared friends. Then I thought just for the heck of it why not call some Palestinian poets I know and let them chat with her. This all took up about 2 hours. She was laughing a lot by then. Telling about her life. Answering questions. She had pulled a sack of homemade mamool cookiesālittle powdered sugar crumbly mounds stuffed with dates and nutsāout of her bagāand was offering them to all the women at the gate. To my amazement, not a single woman declined one. It was like a sacrament. The traveler from Argentina, the traveler from California, the lovely woman from Laredoāwe were all covered with the same powdered sugar. And smiling. There are no better cookies. And then the airline broke out the free beverages from huge coolersānon-alcoholicāand the two little girls from our flight, one African American, one Mexican Americanāran around serving us all apple juice and lemonade, and they were covered with powdered sugar, too. And I noticed my new best friendāby now we were holding handsāhad a potted plant poking out of her bag, some medicinal thing with green furry leaves. Such an old country traveling tradition. Always carry a plant. Always stay rooted to somewhere. And I looked around that gate of late and weary ones and thought, this is the world I want to live in. The shared world. Not a single person in this gateāonce the crying of confusion stoppedāhas seemed apprehensive about any other person. They took the cookies. I wanted to hug all those other women, too. This can still happen anywhere. Not everything is lost.ā

one time in college i was in a creative writing class and this guy was holding up the critique with what i can only describe as like cinemasins dinging another student's writing. and at some point the professor said "the plot is the fork and the prose is the meal. you are critiquing the taste of the fork"
when i say cinemasins dinging i mean the piece of writing being critiqued was a scifi short story about a woman living on a space station holding a funeral for her baby. and this guy was like "the setting isn't detailed enough there's not enough world building"
I think some of the loneliness of autism is that you feel like you hurt people just by Interacting Wrong, but you donāt know how to Interact Right, and the more effort you put into it, the more exhausted you are and the more artificial it comes across (with the end result of people still being upset with you). and itās not anyoneās fault for not liking Being Interacted With Wrong, and itās not your fault for doing it so wrong, but it is very, very lonely.
anyway, every single book I write ever is going to secretly be about autism
in case this was too negative, I CAN sniff out other autistic people like an ant scenting pheromones, and I DO automatically love them right from the outset. honestly, there are some people whose autism doesnāt mesh well with mine, but the base love is still there because I know weāre alike, and I know that have shared painful experiences. so itās not all hopeless! you just need to find other ants š
my friend's discord server has a "proof of touch grass" channel where they post pics of them doing regular activities outdoors/in public. i think many online spaces could benefit from such a thing
when i was super depressed - like struggling to eat anything barely able to get out of bed to pee depressed - my good friend asked me every day to send her a picture of me holding a leaf and a picture of a meal i was eating and it helped me significantly
(also, she was never judgey - if my meal was a single potato chip she would simply say good job eating a potato chip today <3 )
which is to say, i agree proof of touch grass is a good idea for online spaces
This kinda required my brain a bit
A relatively messy study/fanart for project hail mary, the last month has really awakened my inner space loving child again
Also fun fact, while drawing Man of war by Radiohead started randomly playing which i think is very veru fitting for this
"this is unbecoming of me" is genuinely a useful thing to have in your mental toolbox
Okay! Obviously, I love Wolf 359. The available scripts for Wolf 359 are recording scripts, meaning they're inaccurate in a ton of places when it comes to finalized or improvised dialogue, and don't function well as transcripts (especially since the scripts for the live show and some of the mini episodes were never made available.) That said, I think everyone should read the scripts; the sheer amount of physical description that you can feel in the show, even if you can't see it... I guarantee it will enhance your listening experience. Most visual show to ever be an audio drama. So, in pursuit of both of these goals at once, I went over every word in the scripts, and wrote up new scripts for the unavailable ones. Some of the sound effects described - especially in early episodes - might not line up exactly, because I didn't want to mess with the non-dialogue portion of the show, but I hope this strikes a good balance and can be a useful resource.
