I like to think that Zuko took her to visit the Sun Warriors when she was young and she went back when she was old (gap year vibes) to learn from the masters.

My personal hc is that she becomes known as the Caldera Dragon for her championing of overlooked fire nation citizens and integration of Sun Warrior values.
