Jason Grace was sixteen years old when he died.
He got Elysium, as expected. The hero’s paradise. He met up with some old friends, friends who had been lost in battles at Camp Jupiter, people from New Rome that he hadn’t seen in years. Even though he couldn’t quite feel the sunlight, or remember the color of Piper’s eyes, he was happy.
Jason had the chance for rebirth, and a shot at the Isles of the Blessed. He decided to stay in Elysium for a bit, and wait for his friends. Of course, he didn’t want to rush them. So he spent his days sitting in meadows, laughing with new and old friends turned family. The houses on his street took turns holding barbecues, and he went to every one. When he shook hands with heroes of all generations, he flashed back to sitting in the legion’s classroom, studying the myths he had heard so many times it was like they had been inscribed into his skin.
Every once in a while, whenever he can bear to slip away from this new paradise, he goes back to the mortal world, as nothing more than a wisp of smoke, something you can’t focus directly on or it would disappear, but visible in the corners of your eyes. His friends never see him, of course, and he can’t visit too often or Hades will get mad.
Jason runs alongside his sister and Reyna, during a particularly fast-paced Hunt. When Thalia draws her bow, he adds a quick flash of electricity to it, just enough to immobilize the animal.
Piper curls up on the front porch of her dad’s cabin in Oklahoma, reading an old book about Cherokee myths. She falls asleep, still on the steps. Jason tucks the blanket in around her.
Leo and Calypso sit in the forge in the Waystation, surrounded by bolts and pieces of scrap metal and notebooks with everything from algebraic equations to (badly written) essays for school. As Calypso braids her hair, Leo complains about his newest machine not starting. Jason gives it a spark, just a small one, and the engine roars to life.
Percy and Annabeth walk the streets of New Rome, laughing about the time Percy went on a marine biology expedition and stayed underwater for three times longer than he was supposed to. Jason pulls up a chair at the cafe next to them and smiles.
Camp Half-Blood holds a particularly intense game of Capture the Flag one night. Will and Nico take a shortcut through the woods, and end up getting lost. Jason sends a gust of wind to clear their path.
Frank and Hazel lead the legion, and it’s a well-known fact that if you’re ever in trouble during a battle, you may notice that your next sword strike hits with a little more power than expected. Your next leap may take you a little farther than it should. That thunderstorm up ahead? It’s the sign of a friend.
Jason Grace died when he was sixteen years old. But he’s never stopped living.
I DONT WANNA READ THIS BECAUSE ITS GONNA MAKE ME CRY, I KNOW IT😡👊
