“Paul and I met the first day I did Be-Bop-A-Lula live on stage...and a mutual friend brought him to see my group called The Quarreymen, and we met and we talked after the show. I saw he had talent and he was playing guitar backstage and doing Twenty Flight Rock by Eddie Cochran. And I turned around to him right then on first meeting and I said ‘do you wanna join the group?’ And I think he said yes the next day.”
-John Lennon on meeting Paul McCartney
john lennon’s legacy is just going to continue to be garbage and there’s just nothing we can do about it huh. sometimes I’ll just see a post with thousands of notes with a whole lot of misinformed people getting rock hard parroting each other about how John is trash and it’ll just kind really sink in that no one will bother to fact check anything about john, lest they actually give a damn about that wife he had, or bother to understand that measuring John Lennon - northerner born in 1940 with a whole lot of trauma + mental illness + addiction + confusion and angst over his identity who (eventually) owned up to his mistakes and tried to correct them - against 2020 standards is stupid. Getting riled up over a reputation created after the man was murdered is stupid.
Picking and choosing the people you apply the 2020 measuring stick to is unfair - there are people alive who are wealthy and powerful who have committed crimes with no remorse shown who won’t have nearly as much scrutiny as a man who died in 1980. like…..holy shit, if Julian can have a balanced opinion on him, so can you.
people really be like ‘what do you mean his ex wife came to forgive him after sincere apologies were made later in his life and his attempts to properly reunite with Julian were cut short by his sudden death? does that mean i can’t make jokes about spousal abuse anymore?’ and then they go make a twitter post that doesnt get any notes saying something to the effect of him deserving to be shot in the street like an animal bc of abuse theyre incredibly uninformed on and pat themselves on the back for owning someone on the internet for saying theyre listening to Imagine or what the fuck ever
To lose your mum at fourteen is not easy. It was very difficult for a few years – just trying come to terms with it. But then I found music… and John. – Paul McCartney (2019)

I kinda feel like the beatles fandom on tumblr are the only people to have a reasonable view on john lennon? like it seems as if the rest of the world either falls into
A) he was a racist, ableist, homophobic abuser who symbolises everything wrong with celebrity politics and they know this because they’ve read 1 twitter thread that either has sources out of context or no sources at all.
Or
B) he was a martyr saint of peace who was 90% of the brains behind the beatles and never did anything wrong in his life so when he was hurting the people he loved (most notably paul) they must have deserved it.
Whereas, for the most part, people on here understand that he wasn’t a saint and did do some bad, but the things he gets accused of are often untrue or are very typical of that historical era (which he tended to regret after he’d grown-up a bit) As well as looking at the things category B brushes off, understanding and sympathising with the reasons behind his behaviours, but still holding him accountable for them. I really don’t get why everyone finds it so difficult to realise that he was just a guy who made mistakes like everybody else.
Man.
I wish freddie and jim could've grown old together.
“When I asked George for his autograph, under my name he put seven kisses. I thought he must like me a little.” - Pattie Boyd on meeting George Harrison for the first time
HELP! (1965) DIR. RICHARD LESTER
I believe I love my guitar more than the others love theirs. For John and Paul, songwriting is pretty important and guitar playing is a means to an end. While they’re making up new tunes I can thoroughly enjoy myself just doodling around with a guitar for a whole evening. I’m fascinated by new sounds I can get from different instruments I try out. I’m not sure that makes me particularly musical. Just call me a guitar fanatic instead, and I’ll be satisfied.
I'm a slut for George Harrison
the beatles (especially john) slander on twitter is making me lose my mind. this shit resurfaces every couple months and i’m TIRED
