Let’s talk about the endless cycle of jail and relapse that happens so incredibly often. The hundreds and thousands of people who are sitting behind bars as a direct result of untreated addiction. The attorneys that are being PAID to represent people who have absolutely no understanding of what addiction/mental illness is. The insurance companies that won’t cover the cost of residential treatment after someone has been in jail for over two weeks because it’s not “medical necessity.” The alarming amount of homelessness we are facing in this country. The lack of resources we have for indigent people.
Until we start treating addiction as a complex brain disease instead of a moral failing we will continue to lose people at an alarming and disgusting rate.
But it’s the “addicts” fault for picking up in the first place. Get f*cking real.
