don't underestimate the allure of darkness even the purest hearts are drawn to it : those words had been etched/ branded in his brain from a very small age. he was born to two wonderful people, his mother had been the first district attorney that anyone had taken seriously, while his father was working narcotics, starting from the lowest rank to becoming lieutenant. growing up, all adonis saw was his parents making the world a better place, yes they lost a few battles but they would eventually win the war. no one said life was fair or easy, tragedy happens in the worst times and it certainly happened to them.
one friday afternoon, he decided to take his siblings to the park. he had been careful paying attention to the twins but in one second, he answers the call from his girlfriend. wondering what would be done for their anniversary. as he turns around, he only sees one of his sister. the other one id being pushed in a car, he looks at a mother with her baby and pleads her to look after his other sister and to call 911. he rushed after the car, trying to catch it but it was no luck. he remembered the license plate and the model of the car but there was no such luck.
for months they out up posters, searched various park, put out rewards but nothing. weeks turned into months &. months turned into years. there was no sign of her nowhere, until he decided to leave, he had decided to join the marines and a week before his departure they had found her body or what was left of it. he didn’t take a look back, didn’t care to. in his mind this had all been his fault, he had one job to look after his siblings and he had failed at that. he needed to leave before he hurt the one that remained. after a few tours and giving 8 years of his life to the service, he decided to return to New York City. the city that never sleeps would surely give him a new perspective. the force was more than welcoming, his father had been behind some of the biggest busts.
putting away scumbags made him feel that he was doing something, changing the world. his father proud that he had followed into his footsteps but being back home brought things up, his sisters abduction that after 15+ years they still hadn’t been able to solve. his captain had let him know that a spot in the SVU unit had opened. allowing him to really chase the real monsters that had haunted his nightmares for over a decade. would he fight his demons to the very end or would they eventually take a kind of their own.
“Detective,” Aaron didn’t have the energy to correct him. That did not mean he took pride in being called Chief still. A part of him wanted nothing to do with the institution, but the other refused to be bitter. Aaron was proud of his men, and although all the credit would be awarded to people who had barely done anything to make it happen, Aaron knew congratulations were in order for Carrington. Oh he would shake hands with his replacement, but don’t expect him to be anything more than polite.
“Mmmh,” he brushed that off. Who could genuinely happy to see his face tonight? The press had done a great job making him into the incompetent responsible of all the city’s troubles. He took it, in silence. Didn’t complain. Didn’t give them that pleasure. “Congratulations. It’s good to see hard work rewarded with results, for once.” How many times had they tried to stab those crime organizations, and it was as if trying to stab a river?
he knew what it was like when someone needed to take the blame for things and no matter what anyone thought, adonis held an immense respects to his prior chief. if he was being truly honest, he wasn’t a great part of the bust down his work in narcotics was eighty percent undercover. he shakes his head as he looks towards his prior chief ❝ honestly chi —— may I call you michael? ❞ he didn’t went to disrespect him in any way ❝ I wish I would have been a part of that whole bust form more, I was UC most of the time and now I’ve been transferred to the special victims unit but ——— ❞
he takes a brief pause and turned to look at the older male ❝ I probably don’t have to tell you this but the time that I did work under you sir, it was a pleasure. ❞ he was always some who was candid, never been one for lies or tricks. ❝ they need someone to blame and they’ve chosen you but everyone knows damn well that you’ve been the one whose held it together, now let’s just hope they find someone who knows how to do that damn job ——- heavy is the head that wears the crown. ❞
“You have seen it?” Anaïs questions, abandoning her glass also. “All the damage? The bad part of it?” She’s doing that thing, questioning things she already knows — and might just know better. She’s the one of them that has locked herself into cells with killers just to hear them talk, without a taser or a gun. In those cases, she leaves the pen and notepad at home, too. Funny — she can’t remember any nightmares coming through. “Your mother is a wise woman,” she nods and tests the flooring, taking a step forward, then another back. She laughs, "God help the ugly ones.”
the inquires perked up all the questions, did he not know about his past maybe she didn’t and maybe that was the most refreshing part. ❝ let’s just say I have a personal reasoning for understanding people who have been through what I see everyday, so, no I don’t see myself giving any of those monsters a reason to get out. ❞ a small shrug of his shoulders, moving the cup around he realizes it’s turned into water at this point. placing it in the counter, he turns to her and a small chuckle leaves his brims as he hears her words ❝ well, they all can’t look like us, poor souls! ❞ he jokes back but makes a brief pause to explain his earlier statement ❝ when I was younger, I took my sister to the park and she was abducted, we found her body years later and the man who did it got out and did it again, he’s sixty-five doing two life sentences consecutively, maybe I’m biased but I’m pretty good at my job. ❞
His jaw sets square, and thick brows furrow around narrowed eyes. Ziggy’s not normally the type to look for a fight, but something about the hero-worship contained inside the hall after the governor’s announcement, the immediate praise that’s heaped onto New York’s supposed finest as though a single act alone is absolution enough — he’s itching for something, and it certainly isn’t any more of the NYPD’s golden-boy act.
“Yeah, well… In my experience, sometimes it’s that very shield that people seek protection from,” he states evenly, arms are still crossed over his chest, unrelenting. There’s a short laugh at the mention of drugs, and the notion to take out the blunt in his pocket to put the man’s words to the test crosses his mind for the briefest of moments, before immediately being dismissed under the weight of, well, history. Ziggy’s stance only tenses further as he listens to the man’s take on Fallon and her family. “I think my friend’s just fine the way she is,” he insists, unsure as to what exactly the other was alluding. “Is there… Is there something I should be worried about, Detective?”
he knows what people think, he knows that not slot of people know about his history and why should they ? he believed in peoples goodness, it may seem hopeless but for some reason it’s the way that he was raised, that no matter how rotten a person may be, there was always a shot for redemption but in his new line of work, that testament he held so hard to was starting to falter. he takes a last of the drink, placing it on the tray as he nodded his head as a response for another one. ❝ and I am not judging you for thinking that way. I understand that anger the people of new york city have built up for the NYPD, we should take in the advice from that people of New York. ❞
he remembered that’s how he had met ziggy, there was something about him that called out to adonis. ❝ if you say so. ❞ he understood the image to withhold a family name, the real reason he was here was for his own family and them not being able to make it. ❝ families are hard but the charming are a different type of family —— a few months back, I had just been offered the spot in the svu unit, my father and fallon’s father decided that a family dinner would be good. fallon showed up, high as a fucking kite. I tried talking to her but Claudia, her mother came rushing in and said she just needed sleep, next thing I knew she was in some retreat and then she months later she’s here in new york doing great ——— look I’ve seen my share of addicts and maybe she’s better now but if I were you, I would keep a closer eye on her. ❞
He was right. she had made it clear that she didn’t want to be with him, even though it wasn’t something that she wanted to do. But protecting him by lying to him was better than the alternative, and though he didn’t realize it at the time, he would agree with her. “I don’t have any intentions Adonis….i’m here because like you, I was asked to be.” Taking a sip of her drink, the woman looked around and tried to ignore the snub he had given her. “Just because we ran into each other here doesn’t mean I planned it, literally everyone is here.”
maybe he was being way too harsh with her and maybe it didn’t matter to her the way that he spoke to her but it seemed that he might have hit a nerve, so he decided to tone it down. the last thing that he needs is to make a scene. he’s not done juvenile who says things from an impulse. ❝ well, I hope your enjoying the festivities. ❞ it sounds sarcastic but he doesn’t mean it for it to come out that way. ❝ I never said that you planned it ——- there you go putting words in my mouth that never came out. ❞ it had always been an issue, towards the end he felt as if no matter what he said, he was always the bad guy.
“Security would’ve thought I was walkin’ in off the street! Would’ve had my ass kicked into the gutter.” He teased with a shake of his head, following Adonis’ line of sight, “Uh, yeah, lucky enough to get puked on while tryin’ to make sure she gets in a cab alright. I’ll leave that task to whatever date she probably came with.” Lonnie snorted then, teasing the other, “Damn. Guess I gotta make my intentions known early next year, huh? Save all the trouble of us comin’ separate. Would ya get a matching tux? It’s not worth it to me if you’re not gonna commit to a matching tux.” He replied, shaking his head in faux seriousness, “Like we’re goin’ to prom.” Though, Lonnie didn’t remember a lot about high school (consequence of getting knocked out as part of your job), but he did remember cutting out of prom after about ten minutes in favor of something he found more interesting than wearing a tux and swaying awkwardly with a cup of warm, too sugary punch.
he shakes his head ducking his teeth ❝ I would have never let them throw you out, I would have said you were my plus one. ❞ he teases him, smiling at him and taking a sip of the drink in his hand. he shakes his head as he hears about the outcome of one of the girls being sick, he had one too many stories at the precent of suspects being sick or simply a homeless witness not feeling that well. ❝ it’s funny how I can take that smell of a rotting body but not bodily fluids. ❞ a small chuckle escapes his brims as he looks at that male before him. ❝ it’s like you don’t know me at all ——— of course we need to have matching suits, I wouldn’t ask for it any other way. ❞ oceanic hues scan the room of people ❝ so, what’s your goal by the end of the night ? ❞
the night was moving slower than the young woman was hoping for and all she could do was drink and make small conversations here and there . after so many pleasing conversations about the rise of online journalism and what was going to become trendy , sutton was starting to fell . . . bored . she had already completed all the notes and quick interviews she needed to write her column tomorrow morning but when she spotted an all too familiar blonde head , sutton could not stop her feet from moving .
❝ detective carrington . . . just came to offer a congratulations . i’m sure everyone in your life is very proud but i do have to ask . . . ❞ the young columnist started , taking a long sip of her drink . the liquid courage running through her veins as she eyes the man up and down . ❝ what’s the next step on the crusade against the bad guys , ❞ she finished , a teasing tone added to her last statement . lifting her brow , sutton grabbed her phone and opened her notes app, ❝ any comment ? ❞
he knew that he was here simply because of the reason that the commissioner wanted to have the golden boy behind the blue shield dazzling all the further donors and letting them know that the easy was in much safer hands or so that’s what they wanted the public to think. seeing Sutton approach him was definitely something that he didn’t want to get into tonight but regardless of his personal feelings, he was in a public place is not like he could just blow her off.
he nodded as she gave him her own version of a congratulations, then again everyone seemed to be making their own. ❝ of course you do. ❞ he says as he looked at the brunette before him ❝ the only next step is to make sure that the city takes these attack on woman and men more effectively. ❞ he says as he lets oceanic hues scan her up and down ❝ the NYPD as well as SPECIAL VICTIMS, Will do what they can to keep the city safe. ❞ finishing the last of the bourbon in the glass cup he turns to the femme once again ❝ off the record ——- why don’t you ask me what you really want to ask me, I’m not one for beating around the bush. ❞
she wore the medals on his suit proud, his cuff links with the initials A&C, a present from his father when he turned thirteen years old. a perfect accessory for a gentlemen like himself, his mothers words echoing in his brain. he received the drink that he had ordered and began to once again scan the crowd, avoiding some of the old timers of course.
though he wasn’t aware who he would bump into ; SUTTON HODSON she was an aspiring and very intellectual person but that one moment when she didn’t have all the facts and mentioned his sister, things went awry quite quickly. ❝ what can i do for you, Ms. Hodson ? ❞
with every new person that he spoke to, he wished that the conversation would be different but it seemed like false hope. if it wasn’t about him and his goals in the nypd, it was about his parents and what is it that they were doing. as he excused himself, he feels another presence approach and once again he puts his charming smile on his brims but it seemed more genuine once he saw the face that the presence belonged to ❝ chief ——- ❞ respectful stance and his hands behind his back ❝ what a pleasure to see you. ❞
Her chest felt like it was caving in at that very moment. She thought her reckless decisions and choices were decades gone but as Adonis stood in front of her with his suave self, she realized they weren’t. She had chosen not to involve him and now, she couldn’t imagine how she’d be able to explain her reasoning. What if it was just because she just wanted to? She knew she could raise her daughter on her own, and a little help along the way, but she didn’t need him. Just like he didn’t need her the past sixteen years. The phone worked both ways, right? She shook her head, letting out an exhausted sigh. Suddenly the past sixteen years were weighing heavy on her heart.
“I didn’t mean to upset you.” “Then stop talking,” she told him, looking over at him. Tonight was not the night for this discussion. She had far too much work to do. But now, she couldn’t react how she wanted to. It all broke her heart. “I just think you’re lying to me,” she turned it back onto him. She was good at that. “Why now? It’s been over a decade, Adonis.”
adonis pushed everyone away, after what happened to aria it just seemed like nothing else mattered, leaving seemed like the best solution that he could come up with &. it did work for sometime but he had to come home and face everything that he had avoided over half a decade. he didn’t want to make her upset that was far from what he wanted out of this night and yet here he was.
he can’t help but smile as she mimicked him : so bossy. just like she did all those years ago. his mood shifted as she told him that she felt that he was lying to her ❝ I might be a lot of things but a liar to you, never. ❞ or to anyone, he didn’t see the benefit of lying when sooner or later the truth would come out. ❝ I don’t know and I know that it’s not the ideal place to tell you but the time doesn’t erase what I feel for you, at least not for me. ❞
Lonnie laughs, greeting the other man with a small smile, “Mmm, yeah, I thought it was little more appropriate than my normal fit. Gym shorts and hand wraps don’t cut it, I don’t think.” Though, maybe being underdressed would’ve gotten him kicked out- that he could have preferred, truthfully. He shakes his head, “C’mon now! I’m flyin’ solo tonight. But maybe I won’t leave solo- who’s to say.” He’s joking, for the most part, “What about you? You look good, man. Here stag? I coulda been your date, damn.” He teases.
adonis shakes his head as he looks at the homme before him ❝ what can i say, you surprised me. i swore that you were going to show up in some cargo pants.❞ he couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle as he looked at the lonnie. ❝well, there is a lot of pretty woman tonight, i’m sure that you will certainly get lucky. ❞ he watches the blonde whose downed her fifth tequila shot in less than thirty minutes, pointing at her ❝ i would go save her but maybe you should, might get yourself lucky, ❞ he take a sip of the brown liquor in his cup and looks up at lonnie ❝ could have - should have, wasn’t going to wait forever for you to ask me out. ❞
The smile she had on her face faltered a bit at his comment. She knew she had to leave him. He was getting too close too her secret and the last thing Ophelia needed was for him to get hurt because she had let her feelings rule over her logic. If he needed to hate her, she would let him. It didn’t mean it didn’t hurt any less. “Right, your promotion. I know it doesn’t mean much, but i’m proud of you for that.” And she was, even if it was the main reason why she had to leave him in the first place. “You know, you’re a lot nicer when you’ve had a few drinks in you Don. I distinctly remember you used to get very excited to see me.” Just because she missed him didn’t mean she couldn’t mess with him a bit.
he wasn’t here to make her feel good about herself or to even re-live past memories, he was here for a favor and as soon as it was time to leave, he would be out those doors. after coming back, he really had no place and she sort of became home but things turned left quickly and he took it. ❝ thank you, the commissioner is surely happy. can’t disappoint him. ❞ the talking they were sharing to a minimum was getting tiresome. ❝ well, when i used to drink, it was because i was coming home to something worth celebrating, now not so much. ❞ he was being cold toward sher but that was the only way to get his rousse going. ❝ honestly, ophelia what do you want ? you made it perfectly clear that a life with me was far from what you wanted, so what’re your intentions ? ❞
“i’m alright. what about you?” seeing law enforcement at this event wasn’t surprising. she kept her tabs on them, feeling that she was distrustful towards them for valid reasons. there were very few cops she didn’t absolutely despise and he was one of them. he’d at least put an actual effort in and tried to help after her parents were killed. “they’re doing good. getting good grades.” her tone was full of pride when she spoke of them. they were her number one priority, she’d do anything for her siblings.
he knew very well that her life had not been easy, she had to grow up fast and take her of the little ones. ❝ it’s been good. it seems like everyone here has an excuse to let loose tonight. ❞ he watches as the room that entailed of the older crowd had one cups too many. when her parents were murdered, he did his best to help in every way that he could. ❝ well, that’s the goal keeping them on the right track, you do know if you need any help, you let me know. i have very good connections to various private schools, you know my father and mother would love to help as well. ❞ there wasn’t any differences between in morals between and his parents. ❝ join me for a walk outside ? ❞
after having a few drinks and picking at the food in small platters, he makes his way around the bat trying to keep himself in best spirits. thankfully a familiar face pulls him away from the mess of the great hall. the moonlight shining above the pair he turns to him ❝ look at you, looking all put together. ❞ the joke is evident between the pair. someone new who didn’t know about his past, they just simply knew the adonis in the moment. ❝ so, you came alone or did your date runway already ? ❞
there had been people in this room that he’s known all his life, his parents had been a big part of changing the justice system, not that they did a whole 180 but it was a start and he would be next, helping people that didn’t have the governor in their pocket. out of all the familiar faces, one of them stuck out the most. one that he had spent a while with when the tragedy first happened. ❝ aysun, love. how’re you ? ❞ he reaches down placing a kiss on each cheek, a habit of endearing of him. ❝ how’re all the small ones doing ? ❞ he had never experienced the lost of his parents but he did experience the lost of someone he loved and that was something that would always stay with you.
Her eyebrows furrowed as he spoke and she felt her heart begin to beat faster. A part of her wished she didn’t acknowledge him. Maybe, just maybe, he wouldn’t have realized it was her. That was until he presented a relic of their past together. She swallowed the lump in her throat as she looked at herself before everything, before all the hard times, before she grew to become who she was now. The times they had were based off pure blissful ignorance. She looked up at him with glossy eyes, shaking her head in disbelief. “What the fuck?” She said, she couldn’t even begin to form full sentences. They had a wildfire romance and they were so young and naive, but now, it had been over a decade without him. She was no longer that naive girl.
“I–I can’t fucking do this right now,” she said, gripping her drink tightly and bringing it to her lips. She was always good at brushing off her issues, something he had definitely witnessed in her teenage years. “Can you put that away? Please?” she asked him. “Just– I– Adonis. Why are you telling me this now?”
their history was one of the purest thing that he had, something that hadn’t been harmed by his demons but something that he looked back to, something that made him want to come back to but he didn’t see how much damaged he had done with his departure or just with his words in this very moment. her words cause furrowed brows and piercing green eyes focus on her darker orbs.
he wanted to reach out to her but he didn’t if that’s what she wanted, from a young age he understood their boundaries. placing the drink down on the counter he reaches for her, always like a habit after all this time. ❝ hey hey hey, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you, it was foolish of me to reminiscence on the old times, you must have a family and a life that I no longer am a part of, I didn’t mean to upset you. it’s far from what I want, something I would never want. ❞
“Of course. Everyone likes to show up for a good cause.” There was only an underlying hint of cynicism in Adam’s voice as he spoke. He wasn’t stupid enough not to understand that the showing up was often a bigger draw than the cause itself, especially for the wealthy. He’d seen that firsthand, after all. “I get that,” he agreed. “It’s good to keep busy, most of the time.” Shrugging his shoulders, he watched as a water scurried past with a tray of hors d’oeuvres and took one, though he held onto the small plate. “Yeah, I can’t imagine. But of a different world. Hard work, but - someone’s got to do it.” He nodded, looking at the officer for a moment. “I guess in those cases the defense attorneys can be a little harder to stomach.”
a good cause ? in his mind people such as this only like one thing and that was to flaunt their empty checks at people thinking that they made a difference. ❝sure is. ❞ he and spend too much small talk already in politics and how the nypd was being at fault of being defunded. ❝ I didn’t think I would have the stomach ( or self control ) for it but I haven’t been suspended yet. ❞ he knew all too well how 1PP was up their asses over the most minimal things. ❝ scum defending scum, hasn’t changed but everyone has to pay bills, right ? ❞
