Explain about the complete of Point of no Return and the meaning of the movement the actors and actress do, please?
Well, you can get my interpretation of it, anyway. So Christine is to play the maiden Aminta. Aminta think she is to meet the charming servant Passarino, but instead Don Juan in disguise awaits her. This is echoed what Christine experience. She thinks Don Juan is played by Piangi, but instead the Phantom in disguise awaits her. Aminta is a beautiful, jolly girl, a flower seller if going by some of the inspirational material, and fairly innocent. When Aminta enters the stage we get a hint of this: “No thoughts within her head but thoughts of joy. No dreams within her heart but dreams of love!”She dreams of love. Aminta picks up an apple and plays with it, both innocently and sensually, while “Passarino” picks up a goblet from the table.
Aminta/Christine usually reacts a bit to the voice of “Passarino”, he sounds somewhat different, but she brush her suspicion away. “Passarino” seduce her with words. It’s clear they’re to have their first sexual encounter. He tries to get her drunk, and pretty much succeeds.
She sit down on the bench, he’s behind her, and it’s getting heated. Too heated when he sits down beside her and starts touching her. There are two interpretation here. One is that “Passarino” is literally groping her, and she flees to the other end of the stage. Another is that Aminta tries to kiss him, he turns rapidly away so he won’t be revealed, and she walks away, puzzled.
Aminta then starts to seduce HIM, singing about the endless passion they’re to experience. She also does some sexy moves, and is closing in on him. He still sits on the bench. She starts to touch him, standing behind him. This is where Christine goes out of character. Underneath the hood she feels the Phantom’s mask, and if the actress haven’t already given an impression of having understood the cloaked figure is the Phantom, she definitely understands it now. Christine tries to flee stage, but the Phantom pulls her back by the arm, into center stage.
She unhoods him, to expose who he is so the others will understand what’s going on. Once again she tries to flee stage, but the managers orders her to stay put. Raoul daren’t let the marksmen shoot while Christine is on stage. So the Phantom gets to declare his love, in the same manner Raoul did at the rooftop. It’s pretty much a proposal, and he gives a ring to Christine. Some forcefully puts it on her finger, other gives it to her and have her put it on her finger.
The action from here is very much down to the individual actors and actresses. Some Christines leans in as to kiss him, and then pulls of the mask and wig. Why? It can be that they were drawn into the moment, it scared them, and they decided to act. Another version is that Christine merely kisses him, but HE pulls back and she is left with the wig and mask in her hands, and it terrifies her. Yet another version is that the Phantom tries to force himself on Christine, and her only way out is to unmask him to stop it. Honestly, there’s so many ways to play this scene, no two couples tend to do it identically. Either how, the Phantom is unmasked and furious, and runs off the stage, dragging Christine with him. They disappear, Piangi is found dead, and there’s utter chaos on stage. That’s basically how PONR is. One can of course analyze the different gestures and movements, but I think most needs to be seen in context of how the singer choose to play the role overall. Two singers can do the same blocking, and still tell a different story. Which is why seeing POTO liver over and over again is so much fun :D
