Apart from all the many virtues Jinu demonstrates in the movie (that many people choose to ignore) I think a big thing that substantiates that he IS a good person with good intentions who is trying is the fact that Derpy and Sussie love him.
We all know that animals are highly attuned to someone’s nature and intent. To add to that, Derpy and Sussie are spiritual beings who both have demonstrated a higher capacity to understand human emotion and reasoning.
Derpy also has the ability to pass through and utilize the Honmoon. The Honmoon, which is good and can be potentially attributed to a sort of higher power in the lore.
Derpy’s intro is intimidating, just like Jinu’s is. We as an audience initially believe that the tiger and Jinu are a powerful, intimidating duo. Maybe even evil. Only to discover the deeper layers to both of them as we go.
They both turn out to be absolute clumsy goofballs (with a side of aura) The two most scary characters (apart from Gwi-Ma) are revealed to be flawed and endearing. As the audience, our prejudices are meant to shift as we see more and more of them and how they interact with others.
They’re Jinu’s animals. We don’t know where they come from, or why they came to Jinu, but all we need to know are that they are his. He loves them, and they love him. They feel safe around him. They willingly do things for him. Derpy always offers emotional support and shows concern for Jinu when he’s suffering.
The writers did this on purpose. It was done intentionally so that the audience would draw the conclusion that if Jinu is good in Derpy and Sussie’s eyes, he should be perceived as such in ours.
The beloved animals, the literal mascots of the movie, who literally NO ONE could hate, love and protect the man who doesn’t know how to love himself.
