Historically, the gay and trans community were incredibly intertwined (ie trans women Sylvia Rivera, Marsha P Johnson, and Zazu Nova are among those considered to be leaders of the Stonewall riot in 1969 and the expanding gay rights movement in the 70s).

The thing is there’s some pressure nowadays to separate the trans community from the rest of the queer community (ie this is being championed by the organization LGB alliance, and in February 2025 the US National Park Service removed mentions of trans involvement in the Stonewall riots on their webpage on the Stonewall monument). Given the widespread attacks on trans rights in recent years, this seems like some gay people or “allies” think that they’ll be able to maintain/increase their own rights more if they separate themselves from trans people, despite that, as mentioned, all LGBTQ rights have been won in a shared fight.

All that to say that seeing someone backstab someone who’d been fighting alongside them to get a seat at the table for themself made me think of this shit <3
