RIP Marjane Satrapi, author of the amazing graphic novels Persepolis about living during the fundamentalist revolution in Iran in the 70’s and 80’s. She also created the animated movie based on the graphic novels, which is where these gifs come from.

Reblogging in honor of Marjane Satrapi, one of THE great graphic novelists. Her comic Persepolis was a crucial text for shaping my belief that comics can deeply explore identity, culture, politics, and history.
GODDDD Firewall (s1 finale) is actually so fucking funny when you know that the twist is Root putting a hit on herself. Her alias is caroline TURING. she does a whole fake therapy session with John,, at one point she's like wow mr paranoid man are you former military and he's like yeah, good guess!! girl,,,, she was just playing with her food.
She eats lunch (a bigass brownie, because she has the diet of a twelve year old) in the most open courtyard imaginable, makes John's hiding spot (you can see her glance right at him for a second) and then spends the rest of her lunch looking around all Nervous.
When they get to the hotel she's like "oh my god is this what panic feels like" and when John hands her some chocolate she's like "oh will this create an adrenaline response to level out the panic?" he just says. no. but it tastes good. (The Machine views Root as a yellow Primary Asset square as soon as they enter the hotel it's so funny)
She waits until the last possible second to hack the elevator for their escape, just to see what John and Finch do when put into a corner.
Her idea of furnishing a fake office is to put a picture of a dude from a medicine ad in a picture frame.
She runs down 20+ flights of stairs IN HEELS???
and then when John sends her down the tunnel to Harold she looks him straight in the eye and very earnestly says Thank You because she is polite!! even if her next action is to shoot a woman in the passenger seat of Harold's car.
SHE DESCRIBES PUTTING A HIT ON HERSELF AS A CORPORATE RETREAT TRUST FALL
she's so deeply unserious I'm obsessed with her
Your self respect has to be greater than your desire to be loved.
*gun shot*
you know. i must say that this is true for me as well
forever thinking about that girl at my uni orientation who, after being told to pour out her water bottle before entering an event, looked at me and said "they tell us to stay hydrated and then make us pour out our water, this is like totally kafkaesque" and then poured out what was very obviously an entire water bottle full of whiskey. hope she's doing well.
Embossed braille should be standard on computer keyboards.
It would raise braille literacy more than anything else I could imagine - among both the blind and the sighted. Currently braille is actually vanishing due to an increasing reliance on audiobooks and screen readers.
I think that braille has a lot of potential use among non-blind groups. As an alternative to traditional writing for dyslexics. As a way to help photosensitive people type with their eyes closed. Or simply as a means to help sighted people find things without needing the lights on all the time!
Accessibility note: It’s important that braille doesn’t vanish because it’s one of the only written language that works for blind and sight-impaired people. It is necessary for them to interact with the real world where screen readers and audio devices are not available to them, such as elevators, most major metro systems, stairwells, doorways, the bumps in the sidewalk at corners are actually developed in conjunction with audio signals so blind people don’t step off the curb into traffic before the correct time.
Digital technology has made accessibility so much easier for all of us disabled people, but we still *need* the real-world accommodations that we fought and died for
Braille is also better than audiobooks for in depth learning & comprehension of academic texts since it allows for spatial navigation, re reading, and direct engagement w the text and its syntax in a way that helps you with information coding (in a similar process to visual saccades for sighted people). Braille literacy is vital to blind and sight impaired people because it allows them better access to education and employment, with folks with Braille literacy being up to 60% more likely to be employed than those without.

Honestly, I would love something like this! Found these in a very quick google search, but I’d love to have more traditionally made keycaps. I think everyone learning braille would be great.
I got a 4 min long video of Kimchi dreaming today, so here's a clip
You get the whole walk cycle and the little sprint at the end.
Sometimes her sprints last for like 4 or 5 seconds and she can shoot herself off the couch or into a wall if she gets a grip with her back claws. If she does it next to a wall, her head smacking into it sounds like someone is trying to break into the house. She doesn't wake up.
Later in the dream she injured her paw and was limping, and earlier she caught something and ate it.
It is imperative that the customer remain unaware that employees drink water, it frightens and scares them to think of an employee as having human needs
i hate when apps know that i’m screenshotting something. when i screenshot something, that’s me acting outside your realm of understanding, app. i am beyond what you consider the observable universe. you’re not supposed to perceive me. we don’t know when god screenshots the earth. we don’t know when he’s like, “okay i’m just gonna take a pic in case i ever want to add dinosaurs back to something later and don’t remember how.” and if we did, we wouldn’t act all smug about it like, “hey, you wanna share that post? you could just click here to share it.” no, man. you didn’t catch me. i screenshotted this for my own reasons. what’s next? i can’t take a photo of my computer screen with my phone out of laziness without being shamed by the printer i don’t own?

George Tiller was murdered 13 years ago today (May 31 2022)
People noting this anniversary reminding me again that it is such an insane failure of the pro-choice movement that we do not as a nation think of George Tiller as a civil rights hero and additionally a martyr at the level of MLK Jr. or a Kennedy. So, you know, do your part, etc.
