Stunned, all Rothryn could do was wait as various muscle twitched as they slowly relaxed. Oh, how he hated lightning, how it caused his mind to blank and his body to seize. How weak he was right now.
By the time he had willed his body to rise, the battle was over. He gritted his teeth, annoyed. But he was impressed by Indes’ skill. Truly she was a great asset to the Companions.
“I’m fine. Yourself?” He groaned as he stretched out the last of weakness in his muscles before he too turned towards the cage. Worry creased his brow. Had the boy survived?
The figure in the cage moved towards them, revealing itself to be the Redguard boy, wide-eyed and panting. Relief rushed through him and he reached for the bars.
“Young man, are you okay?”
The boy just stared, hands still clasped tightly around the sword.
“Oh dear,” he frowned as he looked over to Indes. “Have you seen a key anywhere? I want to get this lad out before he hurts himself.”
“I’ll go look. See if he can tell us anything about what that mage was trying to do here.”
Without another word, Indes turned and hurried back in the direction of the altar to see if she could find the key on the body of the necromancer. She rummaged through the old and ragged robes he had been wearing, but found no pockets of any kind. There was no key ring or any other belongings on him.
“He must have put it somewhere else,” she half-muttered as she stood again, feeling the still-lingering pulse of adrenaline running through her muscles. She dashed toward some of the boxes and chests in a corner of the chamber, but they were all either locked, empty, or contained only basic supplies. She even moved over to start looking through the bones of the fallen skeletons to see if any of them may have held the key. At this point, she was nearly praying that the man had actually used a key and hadn’t locked it purely with magic. She could attempt to unlock it with something else, but she would prefer it not having to come to that if she could help it.
Finally, she stopped and took a moment to slow herself, looking over the room carefully. It was then that she her gaze fell on a stone that was sticking out suspiciously from beneath the altar slab. It was a different color than the rest and didn’t look natural. Indes walked over to it, knelt down, and tried to see if it would move. She let out a relieved breath as the stone gave way and revealed a hidden alcove that held exactly what she was looking for and then some.
“Got it, finally.” Indes said as she returned with the key ring in hand, moving toward the lock. She began to try each one individually until— Click! The lock fell open and she could open the door.
“Hey there...” Rothryn murmured to the boy. “It’s okay now, you’re safe now.” He continue to speak comforting words, hoping for a response but there was none. The only movement was trembling and the rapid movement of his chest. He moved closer, now standing by the door. Still no reaction.
Now that he had time, he was able to look at the young Redguard properly. He looked barely a day over eighteen, body thin and weakened from incarceration. There were no fresh wounds on him thankfully, but there were older, still healing marks on his bare chest and arms. His hair was matted and he smelt. It was unclear how long exactly he had been here, but it had been at least a few weeks.
As Indes opened the door, the boy finally moved, taking a couple of steps forward before collapsing with Rothryn barely managing to catch him in his arms. The weight however forced him to his knees and he grunted when he hit the ground. The sword fell to the ground, barely missing his leg when it landed.
He brushed the boy’s dark hair from his pale face. “He’s unconscious. And cold. Is there any decent blankets around that we can wrap him in?”

Reblog if you don’t ignore rps and asks but sometimes it takes you a while to think of a response, or you only have time to answer a question or two before doing other things.
“Calm down, I’m not here to hurt you.”
“You approached my home, yet made no attempt to announce yourself.” The sword held steady, pointing directly at the strangers face. “You were looking around, yet ignored my front door. Very suspicious behaviour, stranger. Especially in this day and age. Now explain yourself.”
Random Starters Feel free to change pronouns/wording! “You’re looking awfully happy today, who did you kill?” “I almost came to your house drunk at 3am yesterday, you can thank me I didn’t.” “Is knocking a thing of the past? Last I checked, you don’t just let yourself in.” “I don’t hate you, that requires even a shred of care.” “You look all dressed up, meeting someone important?” “If you come near me again, I’ll make sure it’s your final defiance.” “Get out. Just get out.” “Fuck you.” “Do you know how far I had to run to get here? You owe me an explanation.” “Well, aren’t we friendly?” “Lay off it, will you?” “I don’t have to explain myself to you, or anyone. Now leave.” “I’m uh- kind of bleeding over here, mind helping me?” “Did you honestly think I wouldn’t find out?” “I didn’t know you cared for her/him/them so much.” “Stop, you’re making everything worse.” “I wouldn’t be laughing so hard if you didn’t make a right fool of yourself.” “And there you go again, lying.” “I didn’t think I’d see you here.” “Calm down, I’m not here to hurt you.” “I love her/him/them. I’m sorry.” “How about you fuck off?” “Can we… forget I said that?” “Why would you say that?” “Did you think it would all just work out? Did you think I’d be all forgiving? Well I’m not, and I think deep down you knew that.” “Fine, just throw me away, like you did all the others before me.” “All right, own up. Who touched my chocolate.” “Do you think this is stupid? Never mind, you always see the negative.” “Put that down before you hurt yourself.” “Get on with it then.” “You look nervous.” “Did you hurt him/her/them?”
Reblog this if I have permission to come into your askbox IC at any point if my muse has a question for yours.

aforgottenchampion:
Shit. He scowled as the two skeletons rose. This mage was getting on his nerves and the Ward spell was an annoyance. With it active his arrows were inflicting much less damage.
He smiled darkly. That was fine. He could deal with it. All his arrows had to do was break the skin and the poison he’d applied would do it’s work. The potent concoction had been poured into his quiver just after the two skeletons had been summoned. A couple more hits would see the mage lose his magic. And eventually his life, if he or Indes did not get to him first.
Focus was the key now. He had to make sure that each arrow had enough force to pierce the ward and break the skin. It was tricky with the human trying to hide behind the altar but he had the experience to do this. Three more arrows flew forward, but only one had enough force, managing to graze along the necromancer’s arm. He sneered and laughed, snapping the arrow in two, but not realising it had been poisoned.
“Is that all you’ve got?” he mocked the Bosmer.
As he was reading another shot, a faint cry came from one of the cages. A corpse had risen and was making its way towards the other occupant of the cage.
The ward began to flicker, weakening, but the mage didn’t notice. He was too busy laughing at the dilemma he’d created for Rothryn. Help Indes, help the prisoner, or continue attacking the necromancer.
Rothryn chose the prisoner.
He fired one last shot at the mage before running to the cage. The corpse was nearly upon the prisoner when an arrow forced it to the other side of the cage. The prisoner, a yound Redguard, stared wide-eyed at him as he passed him his sword through the gaps, along with a potion of healing.
“I can’t get inside, so you need to fight too.”
The Redguard grasped the sword with new determination in his eyes and nodded. He downed the potion and staggered to his feet, then charged at the corpse.
Satisfied he’s done all he could for the boy in the time he had, he turned to face the enemy again. That was when he was struck by lightning. Though weakened by the poison, the strike still managed to send him to his knees with a cry.
By the time Rothryn cried out, Indes had already dispatched one of the two skeletons she was facing off with. She had taken her shield and rammed the creature into the stone wall of the room, smashing a great majority of the bones in its upper torso, though the shield suffered as well, the wood in it breaking and splintering at the impact. It dropped with the remains of the skeleton as the Companion spun around to face the battle again with just her blade.
In the split second that she was turning, she was able to get an idea of what was going on in the back of the room where her new ally was. Very quickly, her entire mode switched from being on the offense to being on defense, and she could almost feel the bloodlust boiling inside her veins. With a single move, she knocked the other skeleton back with a show of unnatural strength before moving to stand between the other Bosmer and their enemies.
There was an odd pause in which the human behind the alter finally began to notice his magic fading, the ward in particular becoming noticeably sheerer at this point. His skeleton minion, however, was not phased and began charging the mer again. Seeing this as her best opportunity, Indes took a heavy, low swing at it, hitting it in the hip and sending it to the ground, though it didn’t seem to lose what false bit of life it had in it just yet. It hissed out incoherently as it tried to use its arms to move forward, but they were useless to stop its opponent from charging the alter next.
Panicking, the necromancer tried to cast another lightning spell, but it failed, dissipating into weak burst of electric sparks as the poison fully took hold. Just as he began to scramble away, the blade-wielding Bosmer broke through what remained of the ward and took a strike at him, the tip of the sword cutting through his robes and across his back. It was enough to cause him to stumble, and before he could react and attempt to collect himself, the weapon came back around in another swing, this time cleanly separating his head from his shoulders. The body dropped to the ground, lifeless, and even the skeleton that was still crawling around on the floor screeched as the magic lifted away from it, the bones falling away and clattering onto the stone.
With the immediate threat gone, Indes rushed back to Rothryn and offered him a hand. “Are you alright?” she asked, briefly looking him over before sparing a glance towards the cage behind him as a figure moved inside.
Stunned, all Rothryn could do was wait as various muscle twitched as they slowly relaxed. Oh, how he hated lightning, how it caused his mind to blank and his body to seize. How weak he was right now.

Rothryn nodded. He couldn’t remember either, but was still a little curious. However, it would have to wait as it was unbecoming of a host to pester his guest about trivial matters while they were injured.
He finished his dinner rather quickly and moved to deal with the remaining stew, trusting that his guest would speak up if he needed anything.
Manarion took his time eating, finding his appetite not as voracious as usual. However, he knew he needed his strength and forced himself to finish it off, before nodding gratefully towards his host.
“Thank you. It was delicious. I appreciate it.”
By the time Manarion had finished, the guest room was prepared and the kitchen tidied. Rothryn found he was beginning to like this domestic kind of life. Having a guest helped. Having his cooking praised helped as well, as he did not consider himself a good cook.
"You’re welcome. Would you like assistance to get to the bed?"
Your side character Terandil was a single father to an (adorable) infant. I was thinking about doing the same thing with my TES character since he loves children and has some in game but I'm concerned that would limit the things he can do with people on an rp blog. How did you handle role playing a character with the daunting responsibility of raising a child alone? Were there some rp stories you just couldn't do because of your character's circumstances?
First off, I would like to apologise for taking so long to see this ask. There was absolutely no notification from tumblr whatsoever, and last time I was on it was only for a few minutes.
Research helped when writing what the baby would do and when, and the reactions of Terandil were similar to my own as we both had no experience with babies. Keeping your character in mind is key. What do they know, what do they not?
Having the child didn’t limit meeting new characters as much as I thought it would. What Terandil could do did became limited, such as travelling, but other muses could come to him. He could invite old friends over, or he could meet new people in town, such as adventurers/wanderer, or healers for every thing that the baby did. However these things are part of his character. He doesn’t travel because it might put the baby in danger, like he doesn’t visit the rougher inns anymore. He invited people because he needed help just as much as he wanted to see them. His lack of knowledge and concern for his child limited action RP’s, but enabled other RP’s with other parents, or local healers, or muses who liked kids.
Of course there can still be action. A dragon could attack, or bandits, and your muse has to protect their child.
That’s the great thing about RP’s. Anything could happen.
Thank you for the ask :)

A bucket. That was a good idea. He hurried off to find one and soon returned, placing it by the Altmer’s chair. Two bowls were then filled with the stew and placed on the table, along with a pitcher of water, two cups and a couple of spoons. A loaf of bread with butter made for an edible centre piece.
“Please dig in. I’ll finish tidying up first.” By tidying up he meant moving the bucket of bloodied fabric to another room for washing, and stacking the severly damaged armour against the wall, so the High Elf would not trip on it when he stood.
Finally he sat at the table to eat. Before he took a mouthful, he decided now was a good a time as any to introduce himself. What kind of host would he be otherwise?
“My name is Rothryn, by the way. Welcome to my home.“
Once more, the Altmer watched Rothryn move about his home; he was silent about it, merely observing without judgment, as though curious. He nodded in thanks as the Bosmer returned with a bucket, his golden-eyed gaze flicking down to it before returning to the shorter and smaller mer before him.
“Thank you.” He said again, picking up a spoon and poking the chunks of chopped venison and vegetable about the bull, as if contemplating some deep mystery before he starting carefully eating some broth. Best to start light on his part; his battered body had already been through enough for the evening. “It is a pleasure to meet you, Rothryn. My name is Manarion.”
Now that he had to chance to sit and relax, he took the opportunity to get another look at Manarion. Even behind the injuries the Altmer looked familiar, but he couldn’t quite place his finger on it.
“This may seem like an odd question,” he began as he tore some bread from the loaf. “But have we meet before? You look familiar.” He dipped the bread into the stew and took a bite, before looking up at Manarion.
“I believe we may have...” Manarion rumbled, watching him intently. “I apologize, but I fear I do not exactly remember.” He gave an almost embarrassed smile and shrugged, before wincing. That was a rather silly idea to move, wasn’t it.
Rothryn nodded. He couldn’t remember either, but was still a little curious. However, it would have to wait as it was unbecoming of a host to pester his guest about trivial matters while they were injured.

@nehmurah
“Aw, don’t I get an invite?”
“You want an invite? Huh. I thought I would wake one morning and find you’d made yourself at home in the guest room.”
He smiled at how right he was. “Well sometimes it’s nice to be wanted I think.”
“Well then, I formally invite you to my home. It would be nice to have company once in a while.” Rothryn smiled, possibly for the first ever, at Nehmurah.
“Getting sentimental in your old age?” He added with a hint of mirth in both his expression and tone.
“Hmm, perhaps. Do bring a bottle of something good when you stop by. Oh, and please do try not to break too much when you break in.”
For the Uncommon Questions: 8 15 32 33 - J Please and thank you.
8. What were they told to stop/start doing most often as a childClimbing. His grandparents, both maternal and paternal, and mother encouraged it, even if he nearly hurt himself. His father found it distracting and a hindrance when he was trying to deal with customers, and would always tell him to stop.
15. How do they speak? Is what they say usually thought of on the spot, or do they rehearse it in their mind first?Rothryn has enough tact to think before he speaks, however there have been occasions when he’s put his foot in his mouth as he tends to be speak honestly.
32. Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke?He always starts a story by saying “When I was adventurer…” to gauge his audiences mood. If they laugh, he’ll tell a funny story etc, or he’ll try and tell a story that matches the conversation. Not everything he tells is all truth though.
33. Could they be considered lazy?Yes.
18, 27, 30
18. What embarrasses them?Rothryn is embarrassed by the fact that though he can speak Bosmeris fluently, he has an Imperial accent. The looks he gets from others embarrassed him to the point he now rarely speaks his mother tongue and though he would like to correct it, he’s too ashamed to.
27. What causes them to feel dread? His impending death, or rather the what that comes after.
30. Who do they most regret meeting? Aferius Liore. A partnership gone wrong as explained further here.
