I have a great deal of resentment towards tea companies that promote weight loss to young girls, especially those with âthinâ, âskinnyâ or âdetoxâ in their name. Itâs disappointing to see something that can be such a positive, powerful aid in wellbeing be twisted into another diet scam. Iâm getting emails from a different tea brand every week, each containing the same annoying key buzz words and each as frustrating as the last. I have a stock response that I send back to all companies explaining that it doesnât fit my values or what I want to represent to my followers, but have had almost all of them encourage me to promote it anyway, stating that many of their other clients donât even drink it themselves.
Not only can these products cause dehydration and have powerful laxative effects, the sheer psychological impact of the campaigns is just so toxic. They glorify this incredibly thin physique and market right into diet culture, targeting impressionable, body conscious young girls to spend their money in the hopes of looking a little bit more like their favourite celebrity or blogger. You donât need tea to âdetoxâ; your liver does that for you. You donât need tea to lose weight, eating healthy and being active will help your body find itâs ideal shape.
They do not care about your health, they want to make sales. Please do not buy into these gimmicks, and if your favourite bloggers are promoting them itâs likely because theyâre getting paid. If youâre an influencer online, please take responsibility for the brands and messages you endorse. We are privileged to be in a position of power and have the ability to impact on our followers, itâs our duty not to abuse that, but rather ensure we are promoting a positive message, endorsing self love, promoting healthy self esteem and supporting companies who are doing good in the world.
