the first thing i want to say in this post is extend my thanks and appreciation to those that gave me material to work with during a COVID-19 sized bind. that is extended to those who i did include, and those that i didn’t. all of you are beautiful souls.

after months i have finalized my argument against the male gaze. 

this project was born from rage. an anger towards the society that we have built based on the outdated ideals and fundamentals of the white man. to be one of those young black girls growing up in a world modeled in the eyes of the male gaze, to have little to no representation of your own race and try to conform to fit the mold, has enraged me.

it needs to change.

i made this aware that there are many more layers of this topic to undo, and plan to extend my thoughts and feelings on it in the future.

some of my favorite spreads from this zine are featured in this post, but if you don’t know what the male gaze is or how it and the media has changed our society, i encourage you to follow the link and take a look for yourself.

thank you again to everyone that helped me bring this together. i’ve made countless zines in my time as a designer and none of them have been as enjoyable as this piece. so enjoyable, that i’m tempted to make a second issue.
