Fuck hostile architecture, I want unhostile architecture. I want benches to be designed to be as easy as possible to sleep on. I want little places for pigeons to nest to be purposefully put on buildings. I want people designing public spaces to think about what they'd be like to skateboard on. I want "Please loiter" signs. I want people to be kind. I want...

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
We need cities that don’t punish people for existing.

Alastor spinning the cable with his hand to encourage Vox to wrap it around him so he can suddenly rip it apart really just sums up their entire dynamic
Why does dispatch call you babygirl
How about we stop talking for a while.
Valid. Putting someone in a situation where they almost die several times IS pretty toxic…
Man— I don’t even know if I was talking to dispatch that whole time…
Eh don’t worry, you were pretty tired so you were probably just hallucinating :D

I like to call this the week that doesn’t exist. Because in kemetic mythology it technically doesn’t/didn’t
Looks like we can’t isolate, ignore, ibuprofen our way out of this one boys
vox was so hellbent on taking over heaven, especially after alastor got captured. he became obsessed with showing alastor his strength, showing him that he had missed out by declining him. and, during the time he spent with the radio demon, perhaps vox managed to convince himself that something changed. that maybe, alastor actually enjoyed being with him again.
and then, when alastor broke the deal — showing vox that he was just playing along the whole time — it was as if vox just… gave up. taking over heaven lost its charm when alastor wasn’t there to witness it. without alastor, nothing mattered.
heaven, hell, the other vees, even vox himself, it could all get destroyed just as long as alastor got destroyed in the process.
Henna from Barbie Mariposa is a lesbian, I don’t make the rules guys.
Do you think it's possible that Mercury was sexually abused on top of the emotional and physical abuse he endured? I thought the wording with "defiled by a father" in I'm The One was a little too specific. If they were referring to anything else I feel like they wouldn't have used that word choice. "Defile" is a pretty explicit word, even if it was prefaced by "overrun by the hate and the beatings" it doesn't connect or make sense by definition. It's why I interpreted it differently.
It’s a very sensitive topic and definitely one that you really need to get right if you bring it into a show. Also I’m not sure if I like the connotation of sexual abuse making him a villain because that could be harmful to real abuse survivors. He’d be the only character on the show who was sexually abused (unless they want to bring that into another character’s storyline but I doubt it) whereas he is not the only character who has suffered abuse (Blake, Weiss, possibly Emerald). I think it’s more likely that Marcus cut his legs off and that “defile” rather means Marcus taking his innocence by making him kill people.
I agree that Mercury wasn’t sexually assaulted in the past, but rather it’s a potential for the future.
In Volume 6, Tyrian taunts Mercury about feeling confident in his working for Salem and how he’s so used to violence that he’s too afraid to leave it. When Mercury gets angry and tries to attack, Tyrian kicks him down and literally t-bags him, trapping him under him.
And then in Volume 8, as they’re leaving for Vacuo, he wraps his tail around Mercury TWICE. And this time, Mercury doesn’t try to fight Tyrian or get out of his grasp, because the last time he did that, Tyrian put him in a very uncomfortable, vulnerable position, and he doesn’t wanna go through that again.
He proceeds to grab Mercury and steer him away from Emerald (who is the only person Mercury feels 100% safe with), as if Tyrian is trying to alienate him.
He then puts his arm around Mercury again, and keeps it there until they reach their ship, then PUSHES Mercury inside.
Tyrian’s actions come off as very possessive, wanting Mercury under his control. And what’s really important is that Tyrian only gets handsy with Mercury, he hasn’t done stuff like this to anyone else. Sure, he got in Emerald’s face when he taunted her about Cinder’s assumed death, but that was one time, and he didn’t grab her or shove her around like he does with Mercury.
Tyrian is the most unhinged character in the entire show. He’s capable of anything, so I wouldn’t put sexual assault past him. It seems extremely unlikely because RWBY has never touched on elements of sexual assault before, but if it ever does, I do feel Tyrian would be the one to do it, and Mercury would be his victim.
I’m NOT saying that I hope this happens! This is just an analysis of their relationship and the worse case scenario.
I’m not one to cry over a fictional character’s death, but dude Penny had me BAWLING. RoosterTeeth decided that killing her off once wasn’t heartbreaking enough, they had to do it twice. Her death in V8 is no doubt the saddest in RWBY because she got a second chance at life…only for it to be snatched away. And she was turned into a human, she was no longer a robot so she could not be rebuilt.
I want to emphasize HOW Penny died. Things were bad. Ruby, Blake and Yang had fallen into the abyss. Penny was fatally injured, and Weiss couldn’t hold Cinder off for long. Jaune wanted to heal her, but she believed they didn’t have enough time. She asked him to kill her so that she could choose who to give the power to, ensuring Cinder wouldn’t have it.
And you can see the pain in Jaune’s eyes. It hurts him to deal the final blow, to drive his sword through someone he cares about.
So why did he do it?
It wasn’t just a matter of keeping the Winter Maiden power away from Cinder.
Penny wanted two things: a friend, and the power to choose. She found plenty of friends in team RWBY, JNR, Oscar, and so on. She was surrounded by love, by people who cared about her and wanted to protect her.
But at the same time, her nature as a robot was the central conflict of her life. She was built to be a soldier, to follow orders. Ironwood, the Ace Ops, Watts, and even her own father tried to control her, to make her do what they wanted. She wanted to be her own person, to choose her own path.
As she laid there, she said this crucial line:
“Let me choose this one thing.”
She begged Jaune to let her make her own choice. She wanted to go out on her own terms. As much as it hurt him, as much as he hates himself for it, Jaune gave Penny what she always wanted.
As tragic as her death was, it’s also satisfying and gives closure for her character. I think that given the circumstances, it was the best way Penny’s story could have ended. She got to choose her successor and say some heartfelt words to Winter. She died with a smile on her face, saying a final farewell to her friend.
Rest In Peace Penny Polendina, my favorite character 💚
