there’s this woman I know, shes about 5 or 6 years older than I,a very kind heart, loving woman who never misbehaved, or did anything wrong. This lady worked at the Salvation army and the soup kitchen and also would collect jackets for the homeless during the winter. So anyway,this woman, who got into a serious car accident over a month ago. She had hemorrhaging, damage to the spine where they had to put a rod in and was in an ICU coma for almost 4 weeks. Then she came out of the coma and was able to move her fingers and eyes. Everyone on facebook was posting how “God was good” and “God is awesome” and there’s a part of me who wanted to scream “IF GOD WAS SO GOOD WHY THE HELL DID HE LET THIS WOMEN GET IN THE ACCIDENT, GET QUADRIPLEGIC FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE? YES, IT’S GOOD THAT SHE GOT OUT OF THE COMA, GOD DIDN’T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THAT, THAT WAS FUCKING MACHINES AND SCIENCE!” That would be like being gang raped,set on fire, and getting your arms cut off and going “Oh Thank You Jesus, I didn’t die.” ugh.

So uhh I sent a thing to Actuallyautistic about how just because you have a mental illness doesn't mean you can use it as a victim card when you are being a dick to somebody and they're all pretty much getting angry at me because I'm pointing out the truth. You can’t be bothered by strangers on the internet, but I know it’s easier said than done. Everything that you’re saying is the absolute truth, so stand by your beliefs! This reminds me of an incident when I was in the first grade. This girl use to be a bully and starting shit because she was shorter than us and diabetic. One day she came up to this new kid, grabbed his scented pencil from his hand and slapped him across the face spouting “You can’t hit me I’m diabetic!” The boy  was grabbing at her hair and end up grabbing her shirt, he took his hand and slapped her across the face. He said, “You can’t hit me! I’m blind!” She never pulled the “I’m diabetic” card on anyone even into highschool.

As someone who is effing TINY, this is something I do often - take clothes of ANY size because it’s ALL too big & make it work….because I HAVE to.

Skinny shaming or what ever the hell this is - is ridiculous! Kudos to those who can take something thrifted & make it their own, whatever size they might be.

That is not what this post is about, and this is not “skinny shaming,” this is calling out thin privilege.

If you are tiny, and need to alter thrifted clothing, you can choose from among the eight million pieces of size 4-12 clothing in thrift stores and alter them to fit you. 

But if you are small-to-average and you intentionally take clothes WAY too big for you, that are intended for plus size women, who have FAR fewer choices at a thrift store, and cut them way the heck down to be cute and innovative, that is not cool.

These women did not pick these particular items because they just loved that print and it was IMPOSSIBLE to find similar items in a closer size to their own size. They chose them intentionally for the WOW HUGE TRANSFORMATION of a plus-sized article reconstructed for a thin person.

And that’s gross.

Okay…first of all….how is it “ thin privilege ” to go to a second hand store where things have been intentionally discarded & buy something that you like & make it fit your frame??? These stores don’t take sides according to peoples’ sizes!! They have what they get from donations…they have NO choice of what crosses their thresh hold.

Second of all, I am WAAY outside of  the “ small to average” size bracket, so the 4-12 won’t fly…at all. I can put both myself & my teenage daughter in anything in that size bracket. I am under 5 feet tall & barely 100 pounds, with no shape at all so you really don’t get to tell me what fits me & what doesn’t.

I highly doubt anyone of any size is going in with the cruel intentions of purposely taking from any size to make the choices of others in that size bracket  less. They went into a thrift store, found what they found & made the best use of it as they could. I see that as being thrifty, not as being assholes that are apparently punishing big girls for existing so we steal all of your clothes.To what point & purpose?? I don’t understand this us v. them mentality.

And as far as you knowing what was available at their thrift store at anytime is a real feat indeed. Congratulations…next time, please feel free to tell me what is at my thrift store that’s actually my size so you can save me a trip & a sewing project.

Oh, I’ve done this before! (5′10′’, 120 pounds here.) Didn’t go in intending to, but after looking at the S/M racks and not really seeing any patterns that spoke to me, I saw a starry pattern on an XXL rack, pulled out the dress, took it home and made a pretty neat shirt with a belt. I’d do it again! And again, and again, and again. 

If you wanted to buy something off the S/M rack and make it into something, I wouldn’t care. You know why? Because there are plenty of clothes out there. If I pay the money, I can do what I like with the product.
