It always amazes me how difficult it is to get an able-bodied person to let a disabled person use the seating meant for them. I climbed onto the bus to find that the only seats left were toward the back, and I knew immediately that I wasn’t going to be able to make it all the way there. I’ve had a very eventful weekend, and the result is a severe lack of spoons, and in addition, I am carrying a heavy backpack that drains more energy by the second. Problem is, the seats designated to disabled people are filled. I uncomfortably asked one of the occupants, a visibly non-disabled woman if she would mind giving up her seat for me, and was immediately met with hostility. I was accused of not being disabled and using my cane as a prop to get a seat with more leg space. I was told that I was too skinny to be disabled, because if I was really disabled I wouldn’t be able to work out to look the way I do. She demanded that I show her a proof of my disability. She called me a disgrace to my company. She refused to move, because she had “every right to sit where she pleased.” I was finally offered a seat with the heavy-set man across the aisle, who took up most of the two seats, but joked that I was “so skinny that I only needed a quarter of a seat.” I sat with him until the woman and her travel partner arrived at their stop in Greensboro, then thanked the man and moved to the seat that I had originally asked for.

The gatekeeping mentality that some able-bodied people have is astounding. It’s not their job to weed out the “fakers,” and it is not their right to refuse my accommodations because I don’t appear to be sick to them.

Personally I’m always a little weirded out by the SUPER white Eurocentric looking Qunari Barbies. They’re basically elves with pretty horns once people get done modding them. Like they took the most PoC coded race (and I fully believe the Qunari are supposed to be coded black, hello cornrows) possible, threw in the occasional bit of “ethnic” trapping and then made them look like some actress from a Hollywood rom com. It’s like they want to Kylie Jenner-ize the Qunari.

Like, Bioware gave people of color so little representation (and not good representation, as I’ve yelled about ten trillion times), but white fandom wants what scraps we got for themselves.

White fandom is like a two year old with a toy. Doesn’t touch it unless they see other people playing with it, then they get entitled and try to steal it back.

They don’t want us celebrating our culture, not unless they can come in and bastardize it. What we do—write characters of color, lift up and support other creators of color, have our own headcanons celebrating our cultures—is wrong to them because that “excludes” them. Like they don’t exclude us from any sort of fandom discussion.

It’s a constant tantrum. And ignoring them only makes them louder.

Of course it’s too much to them because they aren’t used to it.

They’re constantly trying to analyze the tidbits of information Game Devs give about the world to make a “complete universe” (that conveniently excludes people of color, of course. Or relegates them to a single country).

But they can’t be arsed to sit down and research the culture they’re trying to appropriate. They can’t swallow their fucking pride long enough to fix mistakes they’ve read.

Fuck, just get a goddamn beta reader from the culture you’re writing about! It’s not hard! Even CoC do that! I’m constantly researching Indian/Desi culture to be as accurate and faithful as possible!

On the flip side, they’ll accept Rivain as the “black country” but the minute you suggest Tevinter or Nevarra or the Free Marches has people of color they get a lil too nervous - even you literally tell them THAT IS A THING FROM A NON-WHITE CULTURE.
