Democracy Now is shitting its pants about Musk's nefarious influence over Trump as though billionaires aren't already dictating policy to the government.

The real danger isn't that The Bad Man is determining government policy, but that Trump, Musk, and Ramaswamy have bypassed the "democratic" system (as the bourgeoisie understand it). Bourgeois democracy means that everyone that can afford it gets a say in proportion to what they can pay/who they can buy.

The big freakout about Trump is that now you've got billionaires bypassing this "democratic" system and seizing the levers of government directly, and now in Musk's case directly leveraging the ownership of his property in order to further circumvent this arrangement.

This freaks out a lot of the bourgeoisie because it threatens them in very particular ways. For the political class, it threatens to make them largely superfluous. It undermines their class position by cutting out the middleman position which they inhabit. For the bourgeoisie generally, it threatens to create a bifurcation in the class where you've got billionaires which hold unassailable monopolies over essential infrastructure that gives them unalloyed power and influence over social and political policy, subordinating all the other members of their class to them.

Thats a good opportunity though it means the potential for an internal conflict between the ruling class depending on how that plays out it could be used to our advantage if a wedge does grow between them.

I think vapes are objectively the lamest smoking device, which isn't me saying I would never do it, only that you need to have a sense of timing for when a vape hit will be most unwelcome and then do it anyway to piss off your enemies. Like Cardinal Tedesco in Conclave (2024)

There's a sort of exquisite shitheaddery that entails waiting for a massive blowup or a dramatic speech and lives being ruined and then quietly taking the world's longest hit on an electric red vape while people hit you with the "Are you serious rn" and "We are trying to elect the new Pope" looks. It's a kind of bastardly behavior that you can't pull off with any other form of smoking because the other forms are either like "I'm doing this because I'm cool" or "I'm doing this because I love smoking." The strategic vape hit says only, "Hehehehehehe"

okay but the fucking. potential for the symbolism here. oh my god. there is the call yes and that's very funny but having to go from the thrill of the daylight waves to Night Surfing Only and seeing the beauty in that enough to keep going. the get up and give it another go attitude. the sinking beneath the waves, losing yourself to the roiling undercurrent, only to swim back up and feel the air on your face as a metaphor for oblivion stains.

imagine a 40something surfer, navigated the professional surfing scene like a shark, pushed through injury after injury, noticed by something dead that wants to see what they can bring to the table.

Bodily autonomy means that sometimes other people are going to do things with their body that you don't like, and you just have to deal with that. It's their body. You do not dictate what they get to do with it, even if you really, really want to. Even if they're doing something you think is really, really stupid.

Body mods. Drugs. Sex. Self-harm. Doesn't matter. It's not your body, it's theirs. You don't dictate what other people get to do with their physical form.

If someone is causing physical harm to their own body, you can't force them to stop through shame or punishment. It doesn't work. It never actually solves the problems causing the harmful behavior.

If you genuinely want to help in a dangerous situation, you cannot approach it from a perspective of "I am going to force you to stop doing this thing whether you want to or not." That's the fastest way to make everything worse.
