Started Revamping my old 'Magical Girl Ideas' AU based on this Picrew into Magical Girl Trials!
I've kept most of the old timeline and design/power aspects as they're very unique compared to what I'd design today. (and Velvet is perfect) Even adding notes I never noted down, like having to complete a Trial of Potential to fully unlock your powers and giving the Pixies (It/It's) their own personality and lore
For mine, I kept it mostly the same, even setting before my gender stuff. I updated the hair streak and plan to make the outfit more hoodie like. Even having a form change for gender hair!! and a headband mimicking my headphones/earmuffs but keeping my Fae ears visible. I now go by Auburn
Cherry doesn't change at all, except for having a tied neckerchief instead of a cravat and a hairbow(hairclips). He's surprisingly tight lipped about how he has fighting experience (post-mirac)
Finally gave Scarlet their original Kimono form and updated her altered form's hair to floof out like the Gacha. It's set in place of the Persona timeline, so he's yet to have his character development and hides his identity from everyone
Oh Velvet, my fave, my poor poor butterfly femboy. He's the only one who'll loose himself to his Trial and become nothing but a Vessal to his Pixie's request : )
Failing a Trial makes you have to give up a part of yourself of it's choice to the Pixie, it asked for his Soul
The 2nd part of the 10th Anniversary performances absolutely rivaled any band like Granrodeo (such a bold statement 🤨)! The music was performed by the live orchestras that produced the music in the first place.
We were lucky enough to get VIP seats...and we ended up in the middle of the front row!! There's no fancy insider trick to getting these seats, you just enter the lottery for the chance to buy tickets, rank your preferred ticket levels (VIP, special benefit, general tickets, etc) and hope for the best. The better the category, the more you need to pay, though.
VIP comes with a special pamphlet book and a 'back stage' sticker. We also got a Set List, which everyone received.
As for regular merch, it wasn't nearly as insane as Part 1 in Yokohama. For one, the early time block was for ticket holders only. For two, they had additional sales after event doors opened for each performance today. And for three, sales to non-ticket holders were only after both performances. So although we showed up 1.5 hours early to case the joint, we, and what grew to only about 30 people, just lounged around on benches waiting til Staff set up the barriers and opened the line at 10:30. The options were cool, but fewer, and we were done in 15 minutes and heading out to lunch 😆
In which we had Mexican food at a Hawaiian restaurant in Japan 😂
Hearing potential chatter about volume concerns and not wanting a repeat of Part 1, we yeeted to Lawson to pick up some ear plugs - which turned out to be a game changer, because just like Part 1, the music was OBNOXIOUSLY loud during energetic moments, which was most of the time. After cringing for 2 songs, we popped them in and were able to relax in enjoyment and not pain. (To give you some perspective, no Granrodeo concert I've been to was so loud that I was reduced to motionless discomfort and desperate to cover my ears.)
Bring earplugs! Your comfort and health ain't worth sacrificing for your image!
And without further ado, concert details below~
The stage opened with a funny dialogue between Chuuya and Akutagawa - I didn't catch it all, but either Akutagawa was in Chuuya's seat and/or Chuuya was surprised to see Akutagawa at such an event. Chuuya asked Akutagawa if he knew the rules for such an event, and he didn't, which made the audience laugh. So Chuuya gave the typical rules like no standing or jumping, and generally behave yourself. Akutagawa made several humerous comments referring to Rashoumon, that unfortunately I didn't get the details of, but potentially either something about killing unrully audience members, or the rules excluding Rashoumon. 😂 Chuuya then told Akutagawa to enjoy the music, to which Akutagawa seemed to say he didn't know how to enjoy it, but Chuuya told him he'd realize it after the event.
And then the event opened with a stylish abstract design on the screen with the classic squares and lines, a mix between retro and futuristic, and it introduced all the orchestra members. Then the lead came out, and he was super into his performance. (They were selling orchestra arrangements of his BSD work for 11,000 yen, and I didn't pick one up for that price. But they had a piano arrangement for one song, which I did grab:)
After the introductory pieces, each song, or set of songs, was accompanied by a beautiful set of on-screen animation from the show that was intended to evoke a theme - relationships, or feelings like trauma, struggle, etc. Between each set was an audio anime quote from one or more of the characters - Atsushi, Dazai, Akutagawa, Chuuya, Mori, Odasaku all gave classic quotes from key moments (Chuuya's promise to the Boss, or Odasaku's and Dazai's final moments, for example).
During the Buraiha trio's set, the first singer appeared on stage - and she sang two pieces in English, generally about seeing someone again, which gave some heavy emotional weight to the historical images on screen from the Dark Era.
Then, they brought out the rapper who'd done the Dead Apple dragon battle with Chuuya. And we watched a good chunk of that Dead Apple fight on screen - it was epic! By this time the orchestra was fully invested in the music and visibly having a ball, getting the audience involved with clapping the whole song. He also did another piece (both had a lot of English)...Atsushi's first transformation into the tiger under the moonlight, if I recall?
But there was another set, which I interpreted to be about struggle and trauma. Throughout the entire event, none of the orchestra looked at the screen. Even when the violinists and stringed instruments were doing the most haunting pieces to illustrate the strife the characters were going through on screen, they never once looked. It was like when the villain plays the organ, or when Fyodor plays his cello as an accompaniment to the pain he enjoys causing to others. As if the orchestra members were the engineers of the characters' suffering, playing while fulling ignoring it. It was ghostly.
And then the last major set, they brought out the most animated pair of singers, a guy and a girl, and the entire orchestra was so into it, dancing or clapping in whatever way possible. These two even went down into the audience to sing, and it was amazing to see them from the front seat! Absolutely worth it!!
The main lead of the orchestra, who played the piano and keyboard, also played the theremin, which is an electronic instrument that you play by waving your hands around an electromagnetic field. It produces strange scifi noises. He also played some kind of small electronic hand percussion instrument, and went down the front row letting some of the audience members play it! Unfortunately, I wasn't one of them 😂
At the end, the lead came back out by himself to play what I think was Fyodor's cello piece on the piano.
It was an absolutely enjoyable time, and I would definitely recommend it, even over Granrodeo. Less crazy crowds. More BSD (pure BSD!). The entire band seems emotionally devoted to the music and to the feelings in BSD.
The lead was literally at a loss for words afterward. Compared to the long, heartfelt messages from the bands in Part 1, he could basically only say 'Thank you', and 'Please get home safely. Bye.' ❤️
Bonus flipthrough of the VIP pamphlet (with sound):
featuring Shimamura Yū (Yosano's Voice Actor) x Hayashi Yū (Tachihara's Voice Actor). i really love the way they talk about and interpret their characters in this interview, so i want to share it
Raws here, sorry i don't own a scanner i try my best with phone scanner, English translation under cut
*i don't speak Japanese, these are mostly translated by automatic translators, i only make small adjustments, plz let me know if i get anything wrong
First, it was revealed that Akiko Yosano, as a child, was forced to use her supernatural ability on the battlefield under the command of Mori Ogai, and that she was recruited into the Armed Detective Agency by Edogawa Ranpo.
Shimamura: I try to portray Yosano as someone who is actually very friendly, and no matter how sadistic her behavior may be, at her core, she has a love for people. In particular, I think the line she said during the fight with Kajii Motojiro in the first season, "I'll kill anyone who doesn't value life," succinctly expressed her character, and the childhood scenes depicted this time certainly confirmed that. I enjoy acting in it. I find Mori-sensei, who likes strong-willed girls amusing, and I also find it refreshing to see her as a normal child who can't quite grasp the "real story" that adults talk about.
Hayashi: Mori-san was really scary, wasn't he? If you're a child, you have no choice but to obey him.
Shimamura: That's right. Plus, I think she had a crush on the young soldier who called her an "angel" and gave her a butterfly hair ornament, so she must have wanted to protect him. If she were an adult, she might have considered other options, but as a young girl, she was very straightforward, and it is painful to watch her get cornered simply because of her strong desire to "help people and not let them die."
Hayashi: As a result of losing that person, Yosano herself was broken.
Shimamura: I shudder to think what would have happened if Ranpo-san hadn't come to help, I wonder if she would have remained holed up forever. But the fact that she didn't commit suicide despite being so mentally exhausted makes me think that she must have possessed a proper sense of instinct.
Hayashi: Having "something" that prevents her from becoming completely corrupted makes her seem like she could be a member of the detective agency. And Ranpo-san is amazing! He must be really popular with the ladies (lol).
Shimamura: It isn't about supernature abilities, but rather, "What I want is that 'kindness'." He's someone who can see through things in an instant, so he must have understood what Yosano wanted most. Up until then, Yosano had been deprived of her "childhood," so she sobbed uncontrollably, feeling as if she had regained herself.
The young soldier was also Tachihara's older brother. How did you interpret the message he left behind, "You are too righteous"?
Shimamura: Those are cruel words that really sting the heart. But I think that the phrase "angel of death" along with it shows the gentle side of Tachihara's older brother, who doesn't completely deny Yosano's existence.
Hayashi: I see. I feel that "rightness" is a little different from "the correct answer," and I think it's important to just do what you believe is right, but it's difficult when you consider that you also have to be flexible and take into account the feelings of those around you. As someone who plays the younger brother, I want to believe that he was such a kind person until the very end, just as Shimamura-san interprets him.
Tachihara has now revealed his true nature: he was a "hunting dog" who infiltrated the Port Mafia to keep an eye on Mori, and he was waiting for an opportunity to take revenge on Yosano for his brother's death.
Hayashi: I pour all my energy into portraying the mischievous side of him, but I also feel a deep sense of "strength" in his loyalty to his friends, such as when he risked his life to save Higuchi Ichiyo from danger. He also plays the role of the one who was teased, and while he seems foolish, I think he is surprisingly aware of his position, so there were times when I nodded in agreement after learning his true identity. In the scene where he reveals his true identity to Yosano, there was his love for his brother, of course, but also his pessimistic feelings of inferiority towards his superior relatives, and his positive outlook on finally finding his place in the world after being taken in by the military police. I am grateful to have had many discussions with sound director Wakabayashi (Kazuhiro) about his background and to have the time to carefully record the lines.
Shimamura: The phrase, "Orders make me who I am," doesn't sound particularly positive when you just look at the words themselves, but I was struck by the feeling that it wasn't like that for Tachihara.
Hayashi: That's right. There's a prevailing sentiment that those who think for themselves and act independently are the ones who are right, isn't the saddest thing truly when someone does nothing and gains no insight whatsoever? For Tachihara, "orders" are a salvation that gave him a place to understand himself, and it's a line filled with very positive feelings, so I put a lot of effort into it.
Shimamura: I think what's appealing about Tachihara is that he's always been a work in progress. To put it simply, he's cute (laughs).
Hayashi: That's his true nature, and it doesn't change even when he returns to being a hunting dog (laughs).
What did you learn from seeing those two confront each other?
Shimamura: From Yosano's perspective, it is a moment of relief, or rather, a moment of realization where she could finally understand and accept the situation.
Hayashi: Yes, I think she accepted it surprisingly quickly. I suppose Yosano had come to terms with it, but I feel that her past traumas and everything else hadn't completely disappeared, so her words, "Do as you please," feels sad to me.
Shimamura: This is not related to what Tachihara said earlier, but for me, those were words I could utter in a positive way. One reason for that is that Yosano knew the soldiers were fighting because they wanted to return to their families. I think she was able to accept the revenge because she thought, "Is this the brother that person was talking about?"
Both Yosano and Tachihara, like the protagonist Nakajima Atsushi, have struggled to find their "place to belong," and that's how they got to where they are today.
Shimamura: It was the same for Ranpo-san, too. In Season 4, it's very clear that the Detective Agency is an irreplaceable place for Atsushi, and that it's the same for the other employees. Up until now, Yosano has been portrayed more as a supporting character, but I'm happy that I was able to play a role where I could get to know her on a deeper level.
Hayashi: As SCREEN mode, who are in charge of the theme song, I also have some feelings about this. "TRUE STORY," the opening theme song for Season 4, sings about the resolve to stand on your own two feet and step onto the path you believe is right, and it shows growth as a song from "Reason Living" in Season 2. And that also applies to Tachihara's future. I hope you'll pay attention to what happens to Tachihara, who has returned to being a "hunting dog."
[Some of the digital chapter changed/edited from the physical notes (mainly from the police station part), but this is just the rest copied from my Notebook]
When they entered the police station, the man at the desk looked up and asked, “How can I help you?” Zeyo reluctantly handed in the box of rings. “I found these on the floor…” She said, she really wanted to keep them. She felt a connection, a need to protect them from others. After handing them in, the man spoke, "You seem to be quite attached to them. Tell you what, if no one collects them by tomorrow you can have 'em." Zeyo's eyes lit up as she thanked him and left home with her worried brother.
After school the next day she ran out and headed straight to the police station to see if she could have them. Even though she was excited, her brither Jackson was already at home reading through some old looking books, but with no luck, was left stumped.
When Zeyo entered the police station, she walked straight to the desk and was happy when she saw the man from before. "Oh, hi! You're the girl from yesterday right? Here for the rings?" She had a spike of hope that they were still there. "Mhm!" She replied, her heart beat rasing, the man put his hand under the desk and he brought up a pink box decorated with golden designs. The lid was glass and inside sat 5 rings, green, white, light blue, red and pink.
She had stary eyes as she excepted them, but a thought crossed her mind, of someone looking sad that they can't find their beloved ring. She sighed, "Are you sure no one was looking for them?" She asked. She had to think about the owner before her own selfish desires. The man nodden as he took a slip of paper from underneath the box. "I'm certain, I found this note underneath after you left." He replied ad he looked over it then gave it to her. "Huh? A note?" Zeyo mumbled. She looked over it and was surprised;
Dear Zeyo Hirosha,
I do hope you take good care of these rings and use them for good.
- Mew Mew
Zeyo had never met or even heared of someone by the name of 'Mew Mew'. She decided to take them home and admired them on the sidewalk.
As she was walking, she saw the pink ring shimmer in the light. She stopped and opened the box, taking out the pink ring to wear. She slipped it on her right ring finger. The shimmering ring glowed brighter for a second then stopped completely. "Wow!" She awed with starry eyes, but was soon cut off by a growl only a few meters from her. "Huh?" She looked up in confusion then gulped. Standing about 2 meters in front of her was a large black cat with orange glowing eye and some redish-orange looking fur around the eyes. "Nice kitty kitty..." She said while backing away slowly. The beast growled and lounged at her. But as Zeyo screamed in fear and braced for impacted by shielding her face with her arms, all noise stopped.
She opened her eyes and saw she was floating in a pink sparkly void with her ring glowing bright. "What's going on?" She asked. Zeyo then felt a weird sensation go through her body making her close her eyes. She felt her apperance shift and a curly pink tail sprout, her nose also changed to be more flat and pink. Her appearance had changed to mostly pink and white. While she was still floating, she felt something materialize in her hand and when she looked, she saw a white staff with pink decor. But before she could marvel even more, the pink void faded and all noise resumed.
The cat like creature was on the ground and rose while shaking it's disoriented head. It looked up and growled. Zeyo immediately raised her staff like a rolled up newspaper and slapped the creature on the nose. "Bad kitty!" Sadly it didn't seem to do much other than aggravate it even more. "Urr...Good kitty?.." She said nervously again. The creature growled again as it then stomped one of it's paws down on a tail of a small sandy cat.
"MEOW!?" The cat jumps in surprise and runs off. Zeyo stands there in shock. Once it wears off, she mumbles, "poor kitty..." She then looks up at the creature, her expression changed from surprised to mad. "YOU MONSTER!" The white orb on the end of her staff starts to glow pink. She holds the staff in front of her and aims it at the creature. The light grows bigger and engulfs the beast. Once the light dies down, Zeyo sat exhausted on the floor. The sandy cat starts to purr and sits in front of her. "Hi little kitty..." Zeyo said as she starts to pat them on the head. Now that she is tired and her weapon is gone, she sees someone walk out from hiding.
"Jackson!" Zeyo said as she gets up and walks over to him, her transformation fading. "When I said you'd be better off as a pig, I didn't mean that literally." He said while letting her elan on him in exhaustion. "You've got some explaining to do sis." He said, but after not getting a reply and feeling some extra weight, he picked up his sister and carried and the rings home. Throughout the rest of the night, Jackson stayed up past midnight researching some old books for anything on 'Mew Mew'.
i want to issue a formal apology to mr tachihara michizo i deeply regret calling you a bum and the hunting dogs personality hire it was very wrong and i am very sorry i now recognize you're the goat and the best hunting dog and i forgive you for the gin crimes and i hope we all continue to grow and learn from our mistakes
I got a 4 min long video of Kimchi dreaming today, so here's a clip
You get the whole walk cycle and the little sprint at the end.
Sometimes her sprints last for like 4 or 5 seconds and she can shoot herself off the couch or into a wall if she gets a grip with her back claws. If she does it next to a wall, her head smacking into it sounds like someone is trying to break into the house. She doesn't wake up.
Later in the dream she injured her paw and was limping, and earlier she caught something and ate it.
